I just don't see the positive of playing for the tie.. send them to the line with 20 seconds left for a one and one.. worst case they make both but you would have control of your own destiny at that point and a legitimate chance at beating them with a trey ball.. any thoughts?

You lose prolly 40% of the time.. 55% go to ot... 5% you somehow get a chance to pull out the win in regulation..

For one, could have easily been called a charge. I thought it should have been a charge.

As for the strategy....you're basically just kind of stuck. You can't just foul them in a tie game and let them take the lead from the line. Its a tough position to be in.

I was hoping they would go "2 for 1" but my god, its tough to even say "2 for 1" in the college game with such a ridiculously long shot clock combined with not being able to advance ball on a timeout.

It was a great game. I felt ND outplayed them and ref's slightly favored KY. ND needed a couple more plays and also missed a few FT's down the stretch. So close.

I thought the same thing at the time as well. Might be a slightly different situation if they were in the double-bonus but 1 and 1 I think it definitely makes sense to foul. Or at the very least play overly agressive D, trap and such. Worst case scenario you either give up an easy one (if they're even willing to shoot) but then you have more time or you get called for a foul anyway, which is also ok. Sitting back and letting them dictate - especially when you're the underdog and really don't want to play them for another 5 minutes - is the absolute worst thing you can do there. Frankly, they were lucky they even had 6 seconds left to do anything.

Ken Pomeroy just posted this.

So yes fouling would have been the correct call, but it takes some balls to do it.

Thanks for that data

I never played much organized basketball but I feel like you should be aggressive and bet on yourself when they stakes are so high.. would be so hard to just have to sweat a last second shot from a very dangerous team and hope they miss or don't draw a foul

It may not have been a charge, but it was close. I've seen a whole lot of guys run to a spot and either flop or take very little contact and get the call.

I'm ok with the call but at least he got there and took a lot of contact--no flop. The Kentucky guy pretty much got a running start and put his head down knowing he'd either get a layup or get to the line. The ND guy got there but I guess his body wasn't 100% exactly congruently perfectly set at such an angle....but no matter what, the ref's were gonna put KY on the line.

I think it was the right decision... I am not a coach, but why not take your chances, plus had a small play on Over so was hoping for OT with ND +11

If it was Duke, it would have easily been a charge....and they would have gone to the monitors to see if if was a flagrant lol

If it was Tyler Hanesbough he would have traveled, flopped and run away from a fight. His mother would have gone away for the weekend with the ref like she did with UNC staff.

the issue was not getting a shot off the possession before. you needed to take control of the game before Kentucky got the ball back. could have gone 2 for 1 but ended up with a shot clock violation instead

With no one, at no level of basketball, was that a charge. He wasn't even at the spot and he slid under him. If he was even remotely set or at the spot they would have called the charge because Harrison was out of control, but that's why you take the ball to the basket. Making claims like that just makes you sound like a homer and ridiculous. And I had a ml play on nd that lost.

Ugh....

Ugh....

The play in the last two minutes blew what should been an OVER winner.... Cost me a few thousand. I had the OVER as last leg of a six teamer I played for $60, also the last of a r team round robin w 2,3,4 @ $32 per way... :facepalm:q

With 2:35 to go, only needing 7 points in a 2 point game?!?!? :0corn

I agree, ND playing not to lose at the end was a foolish tactic... You are up againt Goliath now David, sling some rocks!!!

Poor shot selection by Grant down the stretch.

Good teams attack the rim at crunch time (Wis & Kent). I've seen so many good teams crumble in the final minute because of forced shots. Carolina, Okla, etc. now add ND to this list. Too bad because they controlled Goliath for 39 minutes.
