I guess because people have to get to work and have to pay. Look tomorrow and see how many cars have just one person. They are pushing E85 here right now but the fact is it is 30% less efficient. It ends up costing more in the long run?

Hell I don't know
Yea but at least more of the money will stay in the U.S.with the e85. I'd much rather see a farmer get rich than some overseas person.:SIB

Well they need to figure out a way to produce it cheaper. Get some illegal aliens or something.

I agree. I understand there is enough oil in the Gulf of Mex to take care of the US for countless years. The problem is the taxes. it is cheaper to import. When everyone just says no and the Middle East has no customers the price will come down. I probably don't know what I'm talking about I know if I have something to sell and nobody's buying I will lower the price. JMO

If we SERIOUSLY start using corn ethanol for gas across the country, get ready to pay $40 for a tub of popcorn at the theater.

Gas costs $4/gallon because it's cheap. Try living elsewhere and then see what you think about the price. :com:

Everytime someone says this, you have to remember... In Europe few, if anyone, commutes 50 miles to work everyday etc. They are smaller countries, so higher gas prices effect a spread out place like the US a lot more. We have cities built on constant driving (even to the mailbox). A horribly inefficient suburban socieyt.

Would anyone care if gas was $6 bucks a gallon if you only used your car twice a week? Probably not.

Gas prices are up due to insufficient number of refineries in US, not b/c of the price we pay for crude.

How about gouging, corruption, and greed? You make 10 billion a quarter for something everyone needs you are screwing people. You hear all the talk about short supplies but i can go to any gas station in Pa and get gas. I don't see lines. These oil companies, i don't know how they do it, but they sure do fool people. There is enough oil to go around for the next 5 billion years.

Everyone at my work laughs at me , when i drive in with this beauty.

I spend all of $5 a week, that is right $5 a week driving this thing. Sure it looks funny driving it here in the US.

But I do not need to have registration nor insurance.

I have saved just in the first 5 months this year nearly 4,500 dollars.

I am not to proud to drive this as the big cars and trucks honk and make fun of me. Now the only downside is that i can not go on freeways. I need to stay on city seats and the max speed is around 35 to 40 miles per hour.

But As I said 100 miles to the gallon and I save thousands.

Everyone likes getting things cheaper but based on inflation gas does not cost us anymore today than it has in the past. It is actually cheaper than in the 30's. We actually got off very easy in the 90's and it has now caught up. Not sure why people cant understand this.

I was just going to make a similar post.......................read on:

If the dollar in 1988 were worth exactly what it is worth today, then today in 1988 you would be paying $3.11/gallon which is exactly what you are epaying today.

Just my .02, but if you think the oil companies are gouging the consumer take a look at how much the government gets per gallon in taxes. A national average of $ .45 per gallon. This is divided up among federal and state govt's. On the other hand the oil companies usually make about $ .10 per gallon of gasolineand they do all the hard work. Not an apologist at all for the oil industry but some of the blame lies with our local and fed. big brother.
