You should only go for 2 when it is absolutely necessary in the fourth quarter. The Jets went for 2 at the start of the fourth quarter when they were down 21-10. They did notconvert and now it is 21-16 and you have to chase points the rest of the game. Oakland kicks a field goal 24-16. Jets score late now because they went for 2 earlier they have to make a 2 point conversion to get into overtime. They did make it but the odds of converting 2 in the NFL is under 50%. They need to throw away this chart that tells them when to go for 2 and use common sense.

Bahama Mama-

The 2 point conversion has been opening debates all over. SOme use it when certain number hits religiously, with sportscasters always talking about them going to the sheet or card telling them when to go for two,

Some argue wait until you absolutely need it in the 4th quarter.

I myself am a fan of going for it early and not wait. I rather have the defense thingking about it, than knowing it is a certaintly that it is coming at the end of the game. The defense will then heighten their senses a bit, and be more prepared IMO to stop it. Not to mention if you miss it early, you will have more chances to score later, if you miss it late the games it typically over because in the Pro game, you seldom do it to win, but due it to tie late in a game to force OT.

I'll take my chances and go early, and expect to get my team to score again!

I am surprised that more teams don't fake the extra point kick and try for 2! You would think that it would work easily, especially early in the game!

FWIW, I think coaches are making a mistake when they pass up the points early in the game. It seems like it comes back to haunt them when they do.

GL to all. Packers by 10 tonight. 23-13.

I agree. The league will shift to your style in the near future imo
Trick 2 point converts would have a much greater success
rate than the obvious attempts.
