bring Hoffman in any the bottom of the 8th, with 2 outs and bases loaded, 3-0 Padres at time. Instead he brings him in for the 10th with the score tied, makes no sense. He is capable of getting 4 outs.

Because hes a by the book manager. He has the number one bullpen in all of baseball. He likes Hoffman to come in the 9th only. He will also use him in tie games. He has absolute faith in his bullpen and he should, its great. Until today Oksuna has only allowed only 3 runs at home in 20 innings.

The odds of the dodgers getting a meaningful hit are about 2%. This just happened to be one of the times that longshot came in.

oksouna Was clearly struggling, he threw like 25 pitches. Manager looked even more wrong when Hammond had a 5 pitch 9th.

second guessing Bochy or any other manager is the easiest thing to do in baseball.

I don't disagree with leaving Otsuka in the 8th. That's his role and has been his role since he arrived in San Diego.

It's disappointing to lose a game they clearly had control of for 7 innings, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

If you don't disagree with leaving otsuka in, then I guess you agree with leaving a struggling pitcher in when he clearly doesn't have it and is laboring, blowing the game btw. He was falling behind every batter, and brew like 25 pitches . That's why they have bps, if someone doesn't have it, you go with someone else.

I don't agree with leaving a struggling pitcher on the mound, but the fact is that the bullpen has not been used a lot the past few games.

The only other guy that is brought in that type of situation is Scott Linebrink and he had been used in three of the last four games. At some point guys need to step up and do their job. Bringing in Linebrink to bail out Otsuka may, or may not, have gotten the job done. We'll never know.

They are about to start a new series versus the Mariners and the Padres rotation has taken a hit with the loss of Eaton. I think the Padres make a change and remove Otsuka from the 8th inning role moving forward.

SI, obviously from your logo, you follow the Padres more than me. I was just watching the game on digital cable and having a few Bucks on it, admittedly it was frustrating watching the manager first pull Lawrence, who had been cruising fairly effortlessly with a low p c. Otsuka clearly didn't have his stuff yesterday, he was missing location badly, falling behind every hitter and had like 25 pitches before the game tying Hit. As I said the manager looked even worse when Hammond came out and had a 5 pitch 9th inning. Maybe that isn't Hammond s role, Hell I can't believe he is still in the majors. I remember Hoffman closing many 4 out games in years past, maybe since his arm trouble that is something they don't want him doing, I don't know.

But as I said, you probably know the pads better than I, just was blowing off some steam, I had that game already counted a win.

I understand the frustration. As much as I watch this team and root for them they give me a headache sometimes. I rarely lay any money on them because I never know what I am going to get from them on the field.

One thing is for sure. I stay away from them when they are at home and when they are facing lefties. Either of these situations is murder on your bankroll.

Bochy has his moments when he gets tossed. In fact I believe he was tossed out late in Tuesday's game.

I'm not worried though. San Diego will be there at the end. After a solid start the NL West is garbage and the Padres have the best pitching and enough batting and defense to win the division.

Some will say that St. Louis will run away with the NL in the playoffs, but I would bet on San Diego giving them a good fight. You don't need five starters in the playoffs. Teams have done fine with just three and I would bet on Peavy and Eaton (this season at least) vs. anyone out there. Hopefully the team will pick up another pitcher (rumors say Zito, Maddux, Harang) before the deadline and make a solid run for the World Series.
