Why we Can't "Spend, Spend, Spend"

For the uninitated, "spend, spend, spend" is Stevie's strategy for our current economic mess. (sorry I first attributed this to the sponge, my error)

That aside, read the following and pay particular attention to the list at the end because some here actually doubted that we are NOW paying about 50% of our earnings to the government.

545 vs. 300,000,000 People
-By Charlie Reese
-Retired Reporter at the Orlando Sentinnel (added by azbob)

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The President does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a President to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The President can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House now? He is the leader of the majority party. He and fellow House members, not the President, can approve any budget they want. If the President vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.

If the Army & Marines are in Iraq and Afghanistan it's because they want them in Iraq and Afghanistan ...

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees...

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

And in those taxes you speak of who pays a higher percentage of their income? Hint, it ain't the top 2%. In fact it is those that you claim pay no taxes. This is exactly why the overly rich need to pay their fair share.:0corn

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority.

Why waste space cut and pasting that long diatribe? If anyone actually wanted to read it, they could just go to the original.

Got no original thoughts, azzbob?

I did really like the two sentences above though.

It's like saying "Ill exclude the baggy-pants dude with a 9mm in my ear because he has no legal authority. I'll just pretend he doesn't exist."

You live in LaLa land, azzbob.

Please quantify "fair".

Thanks.
As of now I would say fair would be what they were paying before the Bush Tax Cuts. Again, that would only be a start. They we would also have to go back to the days when the spread between the CEO's and the average workers was not as great. So that would mean cutting their bonuses and salary while increasing the workers pay.

All these taxes that AZBOB kindly lists are mostly taxes that have a very high impact on the middle class while have a limited impact on the ultra rich. I do not know how you could calculate it but the so called no tax paying people are actually paying a higher percentage of their income in taxes then the very rich when everything is added up.

So the government should decide how much money you can make? (spread between CEO and worker) You really think that is a good idea?

You know what has a bigger impact on the middle/lower class...and this is serious...the lottery. Fifty-one person of Americans don't pay any income taxes but, the majority of them will play the lottery. There's a government sponsored regressive program you can be against.

I agree you can eliminate some loopholes in the tax code (better idea is to implement a flat tax and national sales tax) but, I am now very confident that there will be no tax increases...just as it should be. The government gets enough money, let them figure out where it should go but, the pie is not getting any bigger...FINALLY.

Bob you keep saying that 50% of Americans pay no tax then you make a list as long as your arm about all the taxes THEY DO pay. Not only do they pay them but those taxes hit the average working man much harder than the they do the millionaires.
Do I want the gov't to say how much we can make.No. But I want the ultra rich to take some responsibility and realize that their stealing of the wealth, that started only recently, cannot go on forever. And that is what is leading us into a socialist state.
They can't keep it all for themselves.

I'm not sure what you each were doing to yourselves constantly when you were alone morning, noon and night but, put down the Glamour magazine and stop peeping on your sister as it appears you are going blind.

51% of Americans pay no INCOME tax...which is exactly what my post says and is exactly correct.

But they pay a higher percentage of their income in these taxes that you listed than the millionaires do. So your statement is misleading because by the list in your very post the 51% do pay taxes. Income or not it all comes from income. If you continue to cut income taxes for the ultra rich than you will be increasing taxes on the middle class. What part of that do you not understand?

I think I understand what you are trying to say as I have worked with autistic children in the past but, the ironic thing is, the poor don't pay taxes from income. Income is earned as the result of work. The poor pay taxes from the entitlements they receive.

Go ahead and pick the magazine back up as you might as well be an expert at something.

You can keep trying to change the subject but the fees and or taxes that are paid by the middle class take a bigger chunk out of their pay check than the percentage taken out of the rich. I know you understand it. You just don't want to admit that you have been led down the wrong path by the corporate media.
If someone fought in World War 2, worked hard their whole lives and paid into social security who the Hell are you to say they are a bunch of free loaders living off the taxes of the rich?
They pay most of those taxes you listed and they take a larger chunk out of their SS check than it does your CEO's bonus.
I think it's time the rich stopped living off the sweat of the hard working middle class and paid their share.

It's obvious Bob fell into his own trap, Stevie. It's the same trap Dogs always falls into. They talk out of both sides of their tea-stained mouths, screaming "No more taxes!!!" while crying about the bottom 50% not paying enough taxes.

The talking heads on Fox News and the bloggers on their favorite Drudge Links have convinced them that the woman making 17K a year at Wal-Mart is to blame for our economic woes, not Wall Street hedge fund managers, not the Corporate CEO exporting middle-class jobs to China hand over fist, and not the tens of thousands of influence-peddling lobbyists infesting the halls of Congress like a pestilence.

I'll give Dick Armey and David Koch credit. Creating an astroturf movement under the veil of over-taxation to advance the agenda of the corporate elite really was a stroke of genius. Look how many Americans took the bait... even smart guys like Bob.

Speaking about talking out of both sides of his mouth Trench, why is it that our pal Bob insults people in his post but when he is insulted he doesn't seem to handle it to well? I use to have a ball buster friend like this. Broke balls all the time but man when u broke his balls look out  I think in the neo-con playbook for gullible asshat's, they have a chapter about using good ole Bo'b's line about insults. It is an easy way to avoid the question. I just can't seem to understand why a guy who loves to insult people, has a problem with being insulted  Calling Stevie autistic under the guise that this asshole actually worked with autistic kids is despicable.

The best thing to do is not get mad at guys like AZBOB when they insult by calling you autistic or suggest that you can't possibly be as smart as them because.....I dunno, they have been on the wrong side of every issue! LOL! I bet this guy thought going into Iraq was a good Idea and that he bought the party line that it would pay for itself and we would be in and out in 7 months tops. :142smilie Now the guys who sold them that line are the same guys telling them that the less we tax the rich the better it is for the rest of us. Oh yes, and thery love to include our WW2 veterans in that 51% they claim pay no taxes. When, in fact, as his own post shows, those people are taxed to Hell and back.
But AZBOB is the smart one. :142smilie

Stevie i was gonna start a new post but i will put this here. It is kinda like ur post but off topic. This month my neighborhood has gotten soaked with more rain then at any time in history for the month of August. We had an earthquake this week. Unbelievable experience watching my walls move right before my eyes. First one in my lifetime. Now today im running around getting supplies for a storm that seems to be an uncharacteristic storm for the East coast. 98 percent of the scientist agree about global warming but we have somehow as a nation took the opinion of the same lying stupid fuks who sold us Iraq. How stupid could this country really be? The whole problem is the messenger Gore, plus of course, the Rights fight for the profits of the oil executives. It really is incredible how gullible this nation truly is. Oh by the way the violence in Tripoli is happening because of the democracy George Bush tried to spread in Iraq. :mj07: How fuking stupid do u have to be to believe that Bush and Cheney went into Iraq to spread democracy? Good lord.
