According to Pro Football Talk, the Ravens have proposed a rule that is based around a "spot-and-choose" concept. Under this rule, which would add some serious spice to overtime, one team would choose the yard line where the overtime drive starts and the other team would choose whether they want to play offense or defense.
For instance, if Team A and Team B were playing in overtime and Team A won the coin toss, it would pick any spot on the field where the first drive of OT would start. If it picked the 10-yard line (90 yards away from the end zone), then Team B would get to choose whether it wanted to play offense or defense. The overtime in this proposal would be a 10-minute sudden-death period, which means the first team to score would win the game (If no one scores, the game ends in a tie).

I like it. Kind of like sharing a piece of cake. One person cuts it and the other person gets to choose which half they want.

If they do it, it will probably be all over the place for a little while and then before we know it, everyone will choose the same thing. Someone will sort of figure it out and then as usual it's a copy-cat league. But there is definite strategy. Are you playing a defensive team. How bad do you want the ball first?

I think with it being sudden death...most teams are gonna want the ball first no matter what. So the team that wins the toss will choose the 10 or 15 and the other team will take the ball. Might even get where they pick the 5. Since all you need is a field goal, it'd be tough not to take the ball even from the 1.

I do like the idea a lot and it will be fun to see it play out and see some stats on it...if they do adopt it.
