A heartless Staten Island woman who dumped her battered puppy in a plastic bag beside a railroad track was convicted Tuesday of felony animal abuse charges.
Alsu Ivanchenko stuffed Snowflake, an adorable white-haired Maltese mix with a broken leg, in a black bag before tossing her out of her moving car onto South Railroad Avenue last September ? all because she didn?t want to pay for the pooch?s veterinary bills, prosecutors said.
The 1-pound, 3-month-old puppy suffered a fractured skull when Ivanchenko flung her from the car like a bag of trash, prosecutors said.

I couldn?t afford it. So that?s why I put it in the bag, and I put it on the side of the road,? she told cops after her Sept. 12, 2014, arrest, according to a criminal complaint.Staten Island Supreme Court Justice William Garnett found Ivanchenko guilty of felony aggravated cruelty to animals, as well as overdriving, torturing and injuring animals and abandonment of an animal, both misdemeanors, following the non-jury trial.
Snowflake ? who was later renamed Charlotte ? made a full recovery after being rescued by a passerby and rushed to an animal hospital.
She has since been adopted and lives in a loving home in Manhattan under the new name Pip, authorities said.
Ivanchenko, 35, faces up to two years behind bars and will be sentenced Oct. 27. She had rejected a pre-trial plea deal of six months in jail and restitution.
Defense attorney Matthew Myers had unsuccessfully argued that there was no proof Ivanchenko hurt the dog and that she merely left the pooch on the side of the road for someone to find. He plans to appeal.
?The defendant showed utter disregard for the well-being of this helpless dog,? said Acting DA Daniel Master Jr. ?Today, justice was secured for Charlotte.?

Staten Island woman who threw puppy away as trash bought new dog for daughter

UPDATE: According to a report from the Staten Island Advance, Ivanchenko has allegedly surrendered the newest puppy she purchased for her daughter to the ASPCA. More updates to follow.
The Bay Terrace woman, arrested on Tuesday and charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty, for allegedly stuffing a tiny three-month-old Shih Tzu and Maltese mixed breed puppy into a shopping bag and then tossing the critically injured appeared in court Wednesday evening reported silive.com.
As police escorted handcuffed Alsu Ivanchenko, 34, to Stapleton Criminal Court, perhaps one of the most despised women around in the pet rescueworld, she allegedly told authorities at the time of her arrest to:
"Just give me my misdemeanor so I can get out of here. It's just a dog."
Prosecutors told the judge Ivanchenko had absolutely no remorse, and has allegedly admitted she couldn't afford the veterinarian treatment for her puppy. She stuffed the suffering puppy into a shopping bag, and threw the bag with the injured animal out of the car window last Friday night along the road in Bay Terrace. According to silive.com, prosecutors described the egregious deed:
"She tossed Snowflake like garbage and threw the dog out the window, and then went out and bought a new puppy."
Two good Samaritans found the puppy whimpering along the side of the road in the bag.

The little dog, who volunteers have named Charlotte, suffers from severe head trauma with two skull fractures, bruising on her head, and a broken leg. At this time, Charlotte is blind. The puppy's real name is Snowflake.
Ivanchenko has been charged with felony animal cruelty, and several misdemeanor charges of torturing and injuring an animal as well as abandonment. If found guilty on all counts, she could face a maximum of four years in jail.
The judge set bail at $3,500.

Hopefully they toss her out of the car on the way to jail. But don't forget to pick her back up.
