wonder why the charger coach called that final timeout?

There is one reason I think the FG makes sense.

Win the game and you play a young Bengals team round 1...

Tie game and you play the chiefs who own you....

I'd prefer the Bengals as well.

Then there is the other reason........FG blocked and returned for a TD.....you play nobody in the playoffs because you ain't in the playoffs.

Right they aren't handing out trophies to win one playoff game. You have to go through them all anyway. I would not have kicked personally. Hey the Raiders beat the Chiefs in Arrowhead last season. Although I will say I can't remember the last time a fg was blocked and returned for a TD. I will say had that been Minnesota kicking last night, it would have happened.

Yea I hear ya. And totally understand your point.

Like I said, only one reason I could think makes sense..they kicked it to avoid Kansas city... . Let a young team feel like they won their way into playoffs and play an opponent you may beat. Who knows maybe coach thought winning gave them some juice heading into playoffs rather then backing in...

Im assuming he thought for the FG itself that its a very small chance its blocked...And even lesser chance its blocked and then returned........And that is under normal circumstances. In this scenario, any charger player would have fallen on it and called game over I'm sure.

I'm probably overthinking why they did it.... and yea probably not worth it. But I wouldn't want to play KC either.

It's not in their DNA to play for ties....plus, I'm a Steelers fan....should I have lead with that lol?

Well that plays a role in your thinking now doesn't it:142smilie
Sure does.

You think sticking it to division rival played a factor?

I'd of loved to be in those headsets with 1 minute left in game.

doing anything to stop the clock for any reason at that juncture is indefensible

you want the clock to run out, fast - and you know lv wasn?t going to do anything re play calling to put themselves at risk

incredibly stupid timeout - cost his team the playoffs

and another really odd situation resulting from that boneheaded timeout....the raiders(in essence) traded a 100% chance of making the playoffs for a less than 100% chance at making the playoffs for what essentially was a chance at a meaningless win....47 yard field goals aren`t automatic...and field goals occasionally get blocked and returned for td`s.....

totally unnecessary when a team`s only goal(football-wise and financially) is to get into the playoffs....

staley wasn`t the only bonehead on the field....

I had lunch with Mark Davis the next day after the game and he still can?t believe their coach went for it on fourth down in one down three points on their own 18 yard line and they called a timeout. He told me himself the Raiders were not going to kick a field goal

I guess I must be dumb? what bearing did the time out have on the play? He called a timeout with a couple seconds left on play clock. I?m assuming they really wanted to stop the run. Raiders could have just let the time run out but opted for FG. What am I missing? His time out had no bearing unless he called a different defense

You're not missing a thing. These people in here calling in the worst timeout ever are on drugs. That T.O. did not affect a thing. Also i think it was a great choice to kick the FG and not try and tie....Blah blah blah yeah they can block it and go the other way for score. Raiders wanna play the Chiefs with a tie? I don't think so.

All this proves is the continued idiocy of coaches and especially the Raiders.

Of course they weren't thinking kicking of a fg before 3rd down....they were on the 42. The chargers coach calling a timeout was the smart thing as at that point it seemed like their only chance of missing the playoffs was a heavy run blitz followed by missed tackles and a 42 yard td run....so he coaches his team up properly...and allowed a 11 yard gain for a game ending 1st down......

Cue up the dipshits in the NFL....now we have to win the game! Because you know 99% chance of making the playoffs is better than 100% chance.

Not a fan of either team but I REALLY wanted that fg blocked and a mad scramble to ensue.

bottom line...if he hadn`t called the timeout the chargers are probably in the playoffs.....spin it all you want...that`s what actually happened...

Really? WHY??? That's foolishness on your part. MAYBE they are but to sit here and say they're prob in playoffs is just ridiculous. Does not matter tho. It's over and done
