To quote Phil Hellmuth a couple years ago - that's not a bad beat; it's an absolutely horrible way to lose, but it's not a bad beat.

By definition, a bad beat involves one person being ahead (usually WAAAAAAY ahead) and the other person pulling the miracle card (or cards) to win.

The miracle card(s) part of the equation certainly qualifies here, but at no point was either player ever ahead in the hand (until, of course, the one guy won at the end). Therefore it isn't possible for it to be a bad beat.

So I definitely agree with Jord that AA losing to KK is way worse.

The fact that both of them had Aces and it was for $1 million may indeed make it "the most agonizing way to lose ever" though.

Yup. My thoughts almost exactly.

Those beats are nothin! I once lost $60k to James Caan when his straight flush beat my straight flush. My life went on a downward spiral after that. Not even a kind hearted prostitute named Elisabeth Shue could save me from slowly killing myself.

Elisabeth Judson Shue (born October 6, 1963) is an American actress, known for her roles in the films The Karate Kid (1984), Adventures in Babysitting (1987), Cocktail (1988), Back to the Future Part II (1989), Back to the Future Part III (1990), Leaving Las Vegas (1995), The Saint (1997), and Hollow Man (2000). She has won several acting awards and has been nominated for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA. In February 2012, she began starring as Julie Finlay in the CBS police drama CSI: Crime Scene

Nah.

I maintain that my Aces vs Kings beat at the WSOP main event last year was worse.

At least this time, the OTHER guy had aces and got it in good. And at best, you were hoping for a split.

term bad beat very subjective so not going to `argue just my 2 ct

when $$$ got all-in
aa vs aa there was less than 2% chance of losing
aa vs kk aces had 18% chance to lose
1 mil -10K makees it hurt more

I wish they would make a Leaving Las Vegas prequel. I'd like to know how/why such a lovely woman fell into such a nightmare of a life. That was extra humiliating for her when R. Lee Ermey rejected her at the casino bar.

My worst beat came about 7 years ago in a home cash game. I was holding AA & raised it preflop 4x the big blind. I got one caller. Flop came out K, K, 5. I bet the pot & got called, so in my mind, I figured he had a King. Turn card came an Ace. I push all-in for another $50 & he calls. He shows K,9. He catches a King on the river. Ouch!!! Never will forget that hand!!

Speaking of poker, I read in LA they are taking another dollar in rake now when it goes to the river.

Greed.

I hope all these greedy casinos fall on their asses. 6/5 blackjack, bullshit gimmick table games, poor odds on VP, tightened comps, high room prices, resort fees, etc, etc, etc.

Unbelievable.

The worst beat I ever remember is one night on PokerStars it was pretty late in a MTT and there was only 2 tables left. I was in the BB and had A,7. The guy on the button raised 3X so I called. Flop came 7,7.A. I check, he shoves, I call. He had 9,8. I lost.

My best ever hand was for a seat in Main Event. Final 4 players win seat. Party Poker. I make the final table of 10 players but I was the short stack in danger of blinding out soon. I'm dealt 4 6 off in the big blind. It gets called around with no raise. Flop come 4 6 x and about 5 of us get all in and I take down the pot to put me in position where I only had to fold out to win a seat. $12K win right there.
