Would you watch it and why?

Correct. I at least like to watch plays unfold in preseason.
For LIV, I like to watch shots into the green.

Just not for me. I don't see how it will succeed. Do they have any incentive at all to play well and beat the other players or do they just get a $100 or $200 million check for showing up? Phil gets $200 million? That's a no brainer for him to accept. I'm sure I'd do the same thing. Who started this shit, Greg Norman? I feel like sending him back the 3 shirts I just bought a couple weeks ago. What's his problem with the PGA anyway?

The percieved problem with the PGA, is that the are a monopoly, and the players are private contractors, free to play where they want. Just remember, these guys who are bitching about the PGA, could always have played in Europe all these years. Why didn't they? Well, they go where the money is.

Well, they go where the money is.

I get all that. I don't blame the players, I'd probably do the same thing. What I don't get, and I must be missing something because I don't care enough to research it on my own, is what's the incentive for the players to keep their game up and be competitive. It's a lot like paying a 100% commissioned salesman a salary. How do you think that would work out?

And how do they think it's going to work out? There is no TV coverage. Yet, anyway. How are they going to make money? There isn't much of an audience except for a minority of guys like you and Nick. I don't understand the business model.

TV coverage is online and streams in 1080. Free.

This is fun to watch for now and might get boring but hey....more golf to watch.

Greg Norman has a beef with the PGA because he came up with the concept of the World Golf Championships in the early 90's, pitched it to the PGA, who turned it down. A year or so later, the PGA stole the idea and cut Norman out. He's been pissed ever since.

The PGA created some of this shit. The "independent contractor" status is a load of shit because they control where you are allowed to play.....that's not independent at all. Having a PGA tournament nearly every week is a joke. Less than half of the events are truly worth watching. I hope this leads to an event reduction and purse inflation.

The part that really sucks for the PGA is that they are going up against a competitor that doesn't care about making money. How the hell do you compete with someone that has unlimited funding and doesn't care about profitability?

Are any of the rules different?
Do they get to ride in carts? Wear shorts? Do they have gimmes? 54 holes is different.

54 holes and no cuts. Last place gets 120k. It’s the skins game every tourney.
they’re also trying a team format, but I have no idea how that works and during the few minutes of the event I watched, they never mentioned it.
Didn’t take the PGA tour long to announce smaller fields and bigger paychecks— this LIV tour is going to change professional golf in some way— will it be a good change or a bad one?

Have to assume the smaller events like my hometown John Deere Classic either go away or become part of the AAA circuit who’s name escapes me at the moment

Wow, I didn't know there is prize money. What does 1st place get? On top of the many million they already will get? How many were in the field?
$120k for last place is probably plenty of dough to get a private plane if they don't already have one. Unbelievable.

I'm probably not watching, but if I was a professional golfer, I'd have a hard time passing up on a huge pay day. You play for money. Go get it if you can.

about the only thing I have agreed with you on in years, you are exactly right

You're taking a golf tour funded my Saudis and connecting it to a terrorist attack.

You are uninformed because you think all Saudis are terrorists.

And you just proved my point that you have no clue what the fuck you are talking about.

Lol. Canadians.

But not as funny as those in the Saudi gov't, those dudes are the real funny ones. Ya know that Saudi dude that gave Norman the 10 million for "recruiting" players that loves to line up women and stone them to death for kicks, fucking hilarious.

And let us not forget the Saudi Prince that loves golf (ya know that one with all the money that scumbags like Phil Mickleson and Patrick Reed are accepting) and that well ya know likes to cut up journalist with chainsaws and shit. But he allowed women to drive for like a year, so he's not all bad.

But the real funny part is the Saudi's backing 9/11 (some who are still in power by the way), the families of the victims find that absolutely hilarious....Fifteen of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 were Saudi nationals and elements of the kingdom’s were involved in the plot that killed more than 3,000 people. Now that's some funny stuff.

The Saudi's take “sportswashing” to another level.

No, 99 percent of Saudi citizens are not terrorists, but the ones that are backing this golf tour support terrorism, among other disgusting practices.

How much money does the winner get?

The winner of each LIV Golf tournament is expected to rake in $4 million. That makes up 16 percent of the total purse offered. Second place will pay out $2.125 million, while the third-place golfer will bring in $1.5 million.

Each participant will receive a cut of the purse, with the last-place finisher securing $120,000

48 players in the field. Shotgun starts so the rounds are over in 3-4 hours
