For $200+ MILLION; I would hope so !! The American league isn't that good anyway. Look to the other league for your WS winner. Det & Clev are average at best. I'm not saying the National league is any better, there is a lot of average BB being played. How did the Cards win last yr ? In a short series, hot pitching can beat anyone.

the national league...............you mean triple A baseaball that league is garbage it is like watching soccer I would cheer for the red sox before I start cheering for an NL team :scared BTW I love how people talk bout the cash when other teams don't spend a dime twins ( I ****ing hate this team they should be in the nl) and if we are talking money the best team in baseball right now has a pretty big payroll ( Red sox)

Tdotkelly, yeah, you're not a homer. You just said that Hughes would be the ace on 75% of the teams in baseball even though Hughes has made 4 starts this year with an ERA of 4.64. He's made two good starts and two REALLY bad starts so how in the world does that make him an ace on 75% of the teams? Of course, looking at the New York pitching situation, I guess those numbers would make him almost an ace on that staff.

Let's talk about Hughes at the end of the season. You really need a bigger sample set. One of these two "REALLY bad" starts was his first start EVER (totally jacked up), and the other was his return from an injury (semi-jacked up). His other 2 starts he has given up only 4 hits and 1 run in 12 innings.

MC, have you watched this kid throw yet? His stuff is filthy. He is certainly not ready to be an ace this year with limited pitch counts and innings. However, the injury may have been a blessing in disguise as he will now be able to throw in the post-season. Mark my words, Hughes and Chamberlain are going to have something to say as the pennant race chugs along. It was no coincidence that while Hughes and Chamberlain were mowing down the Injuns, Gagne(who the Yankees incidentally did NOT trade for, specifically NOT to give up Chamberlain, but also so they would be able to promote him.) was chitting his guts out in Baltimore, blowing a 4-run lead. Full disclosure: I am a Yankee fan since birth.

Say what you want about their pitching, this team is white hot right now. Their starting staff has gotten shored up in the past 2 months. I would gladly go to war with Clemens, Mussina, Pettitte, Hughes, and Wanger. Much better than the early season debacle of Sean Henn, Karstens, Chase Wright, Darrell Rasner, and fing Igawa. You want to name me a top 5 that is that good? I am sure you could pick a top 3 that is better. But top to bottom that's a solid staff.

Your argument about the Yankees being the worst bet in baseball holds true only if you have been betting them since April 1. They have trimmed almost 2/3 off of where that deficit is, and I would hazard a guess that they are the most profitable team since July 1.

This team has youth. Melky and Cano, Hughes and Chamberlain. The energy needed in the post-season that the Yanks have so sorely been lacking the past few years. This is Cashman's grand plan. And it's great to watch it happen. They will make the playoffs. And they will advance. It's gonna be a hell of an ALCS.

No way are they the most profitable since July 1 to bet on. That would be the Washington Nationals. If New York wins 7 out of 10 games and you bet the ML you will barely clear a profit. As for Hughes, all I said was that for someone to get on here and say he would be an ace on 75% of the teams in the majors is a completely idiotic statement. I'm not saying he doesn't have good stuff or isn't even decent right now but no way in hell anyone that isn't a homer would say he would be an ace for almost all MLB teams.

Uhoh MC, the Yanks are getting dangerously close to that magical .500 record on the road. When that happens are you going to change your tune?

The Nats were +1410 since July 1. HOWEVER, the yanks have been +925 since July 1. Not too shabby for a team having to lay 200 way too often.

They have been playing Kansas City and Tampa Bay for a month, now they are playing one of the coldest teams in baseball in Cleveland. Lets see what they do against the better teams. They have been fortunate to get to play the weak teams and then catch Cleveland in their worst stretch of the season. Cleveland had lost 8 out 11 coming into this series.

Good teams are SUPPOSED to beat bad teams. Your point is?

You are correct, though, we will find out just how good this team is over the next 20 games. 2-0 so far.

How bout this stat? The Yankees have scored FIFTY TWO more runs than any other team since the all star break. Almost 2 runs a game more. Good pitching beats good hitting, yadda yadda yadda, that's still damn impressive. Oh, and 14 more dingers than the next closest team. And one more. They are batting .329 AS A TEAM since the break. The white sox are next closest at .305.

Peteyboy, why bother explaining or discussing. Some people just like to be negative & comment on other peoples plays. Its funny how we never see their posts?

In the meantime sit back and enjoy the train ride!!!
