If he's going out of bounds, it's definitely a catch. Why isn't it a catch in the endzone?

This didn't bother me too much when I was watching the game and afterwards. It started bugging me today as I see the reactions to it on the internet.

The Raiders game at the end really bothers me and is much worse than this and I didn't have anything on that game.

The Raiders game was the gambling gods blessing me after watching Ohio State kick field goals Saturday night. I feel no remorse😂

Jord knew the script.

i had the same reaction when i was watching this game. He caught the ball, took three running steps with it securely in his outstretched hands, and then the defensive back knocked the ball from his hands. how that isn't a td is beyond my comprehension.

And yet, all a runner has to do is break the plain of the goal line even if it's knocked out immediately after.

Oh well....

Yea. I mean he caught it . Solid possession. And took two steps. Crossed the line of end zone. Obv. So should have been a td !!!!

I think the league is done with chiefs and ravens. They want fresh blood in the playoffs.

100 per cent a TD. And the MOST amazing thing is they OVERTURNED the call on the field... Ironically, I was with my son's father in law who is a DIE HARD lifelong Steeler fan. Even he said, when they overturned the call, "wow that is a terrible ruling but I'll take it!"

and that boomer, is the rub!

I had no dog in this fight, but in my mind, it was a TD.
You cannot show more complete possession than what he did with both hands squeezing the ball as he landed and ran... should he have tucked it away? sure.
If he'd caught it on the sideline w/both feet in and got knocked out of bounds wouldn't it be a catch?
or does he have to land 10 feet away and still never have bobbled it?
complete possession thru his entire process of landing 10-15 feet away seems stupid to me...

They've been trying to clarify "what is a catch" for like 20 years ever since they took a TD from Calvin Johnson at the end of a game.

So, they created the "3 step rule", clearly likely had possession and when his foot landed on the 3rd step it was knocked away finally, they could've used the MLB rule, 'Tie goes to the runner'!

Jack's point about it's a TD when a guy "breaks the plane" of the goal line even if he fumbles it an inch later is what makes this an even dumber ruling.

what'd be the answer? I don't know, not require a 3rd step?

it's when stuff like this happens in the playoffs that it really irks me... nothing like getting irked!
Better luck next time Ravens ML bettors.

ONward!

I have no idea what constitutes to catch anymore. I guess you have to carry it all the way to the sideline with you these days
close. you have to bring it home and cuddle it all night. then, the following morning, meet the game official at the nearest waffle house and hand him the ball.

rules are rules.

ok, here's the actual rule.

my first thought, based on the rules, is that he needed to complete that third step prior to losing the ball. obviously it was very, very close. but then i read the very end of (c). i would say he clearly maintained control of the ball long enough to tuck the ball away. he just didn't, because he was trying to hold it out of reach of the defender.
