No breakfast today (highly unusual)

Coupla slices of a Gala apple, two small cups of coffee and a slug of apple cider vinegar. Still not hungry and praying I can hold off till supper. Wife said supper would be cauliflour, lima beans, brussel sprouts + chunky applesauce.

Am hoping to go for a brisk twenty minute walk this afternoon.

Buddy, at this rate it seems like you'll be down 30 lbs in two months, much less a year.

I would definitely recommend that you do NOT go without eating til supper. U need to eat to lose weight... keeps your metabolism in affect and u need to feed your muscles (muscle tissue burns 70% of the fat in your body). Just a small handful of almonds/lowfat protein shake/string cheese/yogurt/slices of lunch meat will work for a snack, but eat somethin every 3-4 hours.

The Three Hour Diet worked very well for me when i wanted to shed pounds last year. All about portion control.

Wife just reprimanded me for not having something for breakfast. Even a piece of fruit. Wease, I love shredded wheat. Even w/o milk wouldn't bother me. Will also buy OJ. Wife said wal-mart doesn't carry grains of any kind. No buckwheat, barley, millet, etc. Hey, Ewell Gibbons ate pine cones. Rumor has it that's why he died! :scared

Justin, I know what you mean about thinking you are too busy to eat right. I can't stress this enough...MAKE a little time every few days - 15 minutes, 10, whatever, get some plastic snack bags, and buy some snack stuff and fruit/veggies you like. Make up a few bags and stick them in the fridge or on the counter, so you can take them with you or just grab them in a rush at home. Make some different ones, for variety - like grapes, carrots, celery, that kind of thing. Bananas are easy and quick, but back to the baggie thing - peanuts, jerky (really low in carbs and feels like you are really into something), etc. You will grab something if it's there, will curb that hunger, and feel good about it the whole time. EVERYBODY has 10 minutes or so every few days to do this, and you have to go to the store to eat. There are several different kinds of 100 calorie snack boxes on the market now, too, not all are good for you, but you're better off just doing those than grabbing tenders or fries or whatever.

Good luck all'y'all.

And to be really excited, make some fat free pudding and jello, get some no carb Cool Whip, and treat yourself to that once in a while. Not bad in calories, very few carbs, and it feels like you are cheating - really tasty and not too bad for you.

GW..... as far as pre-mixed stuff, go with any of the Myoplex products from EAS... sugar will range from 0-2 grams and 20-25g protein. Should be able to get it at any grocery store

Value-wise i'd go with any of the GNC brand protein/recovery drinks. For a big tub of GNC's whey protein drink you pay roughly $30-$35.

That includes 43 servings for $30 instead of 6 bottles of Boost for $30. 1 scoop/serving of the GNC stuff has 20g of whey protein and 2g of sugar (if you mix w/ milk add another 5-6 grams of protein). Of course u have to mix the GNC stuff, though....

Wease,

As I type, I'm munching on a blend of bran chex + total cereal mixed with slivered almonds and raisins. Actually, really tasty stuff. Think I may add shredded coconut. I think this is what justin22g needs to keep handy. I may keep a container of this in the car myself. Oh Lord, is this good.

I took a look at the russian astronaut diet, but decided to pass....

Here's one of the recipes:

The Russian Astronaut diet has such "mouth-watering" recipes as this:

Early Spring Greens with Kelp Sauce

Ingredients

A bunch of parsnip greens
2-3 young black currant leaves
2-3 young gooseberries leaves
1 young horseradish leaf
A spring of young Lubistock or celery
Fresh squeezed lemon juice

Instructions

Finely chop the greens; add the Kelp Sesame sauce by taste. Can be used as a side dish with whole grain dishes

good info,rawl...i`ve seen myoplex around.....i`m gonna take a hard look at it.....gotta make sure that it doesn`t have anything in it that raises blood pressure..

appreciated...

buddy,i`m glad you`re gung ho...that russian concoction might be just a little to "agent/hippo"-ish for me...... but, don`t let me deter you....

you`re doing the right thing......

btw...i drink a 7 ounce coors light every night in a frosted mug(it`s a puddle at the bottom of the mug,lol)...with a little cereal/nut mix i make as a snack most evenings during the week...satisfying and relaxing...

my problem is that i eat around a pound of pistachios on the weekend ...( i try and scrape most of the salt off).....i actually have a pistachio callus on my thumb from shelling `em ....i can`t quit...this is what smoking must feel like......

thats why i`m very conscious of my salt intake during the week...

i cheat,but i haven`t eaten meat in a very long while...i eat soy hotdogs,the lentils,egg beaters,make soy tacos etc to get protein...eat alot of lettuce/tomato/onion/lite swiss cheese/hots on a toasted bun...

doesn`t go over big with the family, but, after you`ve spent alot of time taking care of sick family and spent way to much time in the hospital, something clicks in your brain..

maybe it`s all bullshit...maybe it`s all genetics...i don`t know...i do know i`d probably roll over and die if i got sick and couldn`t exercise..

Wease,

If I just stay away from the bread and the pastries, I think I'll be okay. Wifey has been a healthier eater than me, but I'm not reckless. At our age, we both agreed we need to be more cautious, so now some items are just not allowed in the house. The regular exercise will be the big thing. I turned into a sluggard and it caught up with me. In addition, being more mindful of serving size and what I'm putting in my gut will be beneficial. I'm determined to lose this weight and keep it off.

Lord, I love pistachios! But there again, I don't have the strength to restrain myself. Much better if they were never around. Even if I only had a few, I'd make an excuse to go buy a pound. Being able to say "no" and realizing the consequence of "trifling with sin" will be huge in this quest. Wifey and I don't drink alcohol, so that's not a concern. Wifey and I did a brisk twenty minute walk today, too. Two times around the perimeter of the wal-mart parking lot. The brisk walks on level ground is good conditioning for the steep hills in this area. The one yesterday was a monster. I rested seven or eight times and wifey said she could jog it with with no problem. :142smilie

Wease,

I may take you up on your offer. Thanks!

Day 3 - 7:33 AM

Stomach is craving / Use restraint / Eat healthy / Already planned to have grapefruit + 1/2 banana for breakfast, then brisk walk around the neighborhood / Really helps not having unhealthy stuff (pastries) in the house. Out of sight, out of mind.

Day 3 / 12:31 PM - Walked this morning for 30 min. Had a companion and an engaging conversation so the time sped by / Stopped in a local "Shop n' Save" supermarket to buy a few items and noticed an unusually sweet aroma in the air. Strong smell (yet not offensive) of vanilla? Is this intentional to make customers think of sweets? / Anyway, stomach is craving food / Gonna' eat carrot sticks, apple slices and bran chex traill mix (my own concoction)./ update - had left over cauliflour and lima beans for lunch./ fairly active day. lot of running around. stayed busy

Day 3 / 8:17 PM - For dinner at 5 PM, had Crock Pot Barbecued Chicken and a slice of buttered health nut bread. Been munching on apple slices throughout the evening. / I think I'm done with food for today. This is a good sign.

Day 3 / 10:00 PM - Made large container of cole slaw...Cabbage, carrots, crushed pineapple + raisins. Had small serving plus a small dish of dry cereal mix.

Day 4 / 8:25 AM - Had cup of tea, half banana + apple slices for breakfast. Also had multi-vitamin (Centrum Silver). Tempted to have english muffin, but afraid I wouldn't stop at just one so I did without ("Resist the devil and he will flee"). Wifey + I are planning to walk another steep hill in the neighborhood. Much shorter but steeper than the hill to wal-mart. Up + back should take 15-20 min.

Day 4 / 9:46 AM - Wifey + I walked twice around the block then did the short, steep hill. Mini-monster. My legs are throbbing. Total time in motion = 25 minutes. 10:45 AM - had small bowl of rice w/ soy sauce.

Day 4 / 2 PM - Wifey + I went to King's restaurant and split a grilled chicken salad. 4 PM - ate two bowls of cereal. 4:50 PM - had tuna fish salad on celery sticks. 9:30 PM - Had large serving of cauliflour. 9:40 PM - Had slow cooked barbecued chicken and small serivng of cole slaw.

I'm doing okay.

Stayed away from bread + pastries, eating healthy (lot of veggies and fruits), walking 3-4 times a week and doing sit-ups.

Lost 2 lbs. in two weeks.

Discovered eating apple slices whenever you have a hunger craving will satisfy the urge and diminish your appetite.

Also bought a food dehydrator. Dried apple and banana slices are pretty good! Again, they help to curb the appetite.

Good job Buddy!!

I have lost 44lbs in 4 months and feel great. I really let myself go over several years and steadily packed on the weight. I finally one day hit rock bottom and I had enough. I have been doing the Atkins diet and it works well for me. I am never hungry and have exercised as much as my schedule has allowed. I coach football and our season is over so I hope to have more time to exercise.

I will be 42 in January and I knew I had to do something to take the weight off. I have more weight to lose, but the hardest part was starting the diet. Now it's easy and even on the occasions when I do cheat, I am right back on track.

Good health to you & all the Madjacker's out there!
