Appreciate your input in China section Doc. Have found lots of these China "penny" stocks are quite diff than U.S. penny stocks as many pay dividends. As is case with DENMF on list above. Has split a while back and is currently at .48. Have done real well on this one with one exception. My SEP account is in AXP (Ameriprise)
which is free trade for most part but has a fine print charge of 3 cents a share on over 1000 shares--so started out buying it at about 10% premium :( --but can't complain I too much I guess.

P.S. I'm not savvy enough too get into the puts and calls--they :scared the hell out of me.

Thought KMG looked familiar was in my stocks sold portfolio sold on -6-1-99 @ 45 5/8

.03 premium is pretty brutal on penny stocks. My sources are reliable on Golden Meditech- KMG earnings are huge. 4 PE ratio w/small dividend- good stock to buy IMO I also like SUN.

Thanks Rebel--is interesting

--a couple of notes
On example of Shenzen property going up so much--this city borders Hong Kong where real estate is VERY expensive--however few years ago they completed undergound route to Hong Kong (use to have to go over water) which brought mass migration from Hong Kong to Schenzen--Have post here somewhere when route was nearing completion several years ago and speculated on property in Schenzen--of course procratinated and never went through with it.

another item he discussed was property taxes going up--which may be so--but don't know if he is aware that in China you pay property tax "once" at time of purchase.

On steel--while they have produced lots of steel--it has only been recently they have moved to produce high grade steel--having to import much from Posco (korea) and elsewhere previously.

I think he did excellent job on pointing out pitfalls of investing in China--my biggest fear is credibilty of their reporting financials on companys--very little
scrutiny involved. Have tried to stick to dividend paying companies and hard to believe but there are companys that sell for less than $1 per share that have paid dividends in 7 to 8% range for several years--hoever hard to find info/financials on these companies

Bought a stock at opening bell-- ABB LTD ($12.71/share)
A swiss firm that, as with ASD previously, is an indirect play on China market.
It is my understanding China has given them free hand on upgrading the power grids. Now uncommon for elecrtic to be out daily there for hour or more.
Been waiting on this one and saw yesterday its profits triple for quarter--hope I'm not too late on this--high PE but project PE much lower and pays small dividend which hoping they increase.

got another I been watching with interest but threw me real curve today and any input from others would be appreciated before I buy.

Company is China gas company CHNG.OB--been tracking since since China Petro got involved with them. Was debating on buying before earnings came out today--had anticipated earnings being up there but nothing like they were--yet stock dropped 50 cents(15%)--now I'm clueless on whats up? here was financial report--

could not find any news, maybe this is the case of sell on news.

this stock though off its highs has had a great run and maybe people sold on news of earnings which met estimates.

only found two both rated it a buy, with an average of .23earnings per share.

actually bought this one at 2.95 small position. looks interesting, since it is volatile will keep a stop lower than ussual.

ABB is starting to have options on it Amex. will look to play the stock that way, only have a few US options, biggest one is McDonalds. that stock has done well the past couple of years, just want it to stay above 40 in the next 3 months...

DTB do you look at other markets such as Japan, Hong Kong, Australia as a way of playing China...maybe that is to indirect.

thanks

Thanks Kirk--was mind boggler to me. I look for any country with ties to China. Read China Daily and a few other china publicatins each day and look for any plays regarding China.Doesn't make any diff which country as long as its on U.S. exchange.

Hardest thing about China is they do not have much transparency on stocks until recently and hard to seperate fact from fiction.
Try to seperate with at least 2 years dividend history on most or co venture with reputable company such as China Petro in above stock. Is amazing the small stocks under a dollar that pay dividends.
Been looking as you know for environmental stock to clean up their water and may have found one--but it is so ridculously cheap it scares me figure can't lose much. Will put it up here tomorrow for your input -at home now and don't have links on this computer.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
1st became aware Of China gas through this listing of companies--
http://www.china-asiastocks.com/Companies/China-AsiaStocks/Stocks_List.asp

2 other companies of interest were

China Evergreen Environmental Corporation (CEEC.OB) is a leading designer, engineer and developer of waste water treatment facilities in China. With its proprietary technology resources and project management experience, the company provides both turnkey and BOT (build-operate-transfer) services to a range of industrial companies and municipalities throughout China. The company also makes sales of its proprietary GM Bio-carriers, a natural, chemical-free process that improves the efficiency of the waste water treatment process.

The name and symbol of this company changed a couple days ago to CHINA WATER GROUP (OTC BB:CHWG.OB)

Was hard to find info on this company but Etrades Snapshot does pretty good. Oddly had found news on substatial jobs they were recently given but can't pull them any longer under new stmbol--and a bit worried about name change as might be ploy to get more "China" investors--but not much downside at 15 cents a share--but a strictly a gamble none the less.
++++++++++++++++++++++
the other of interest is

A-S China Plumbing (American Standard) (OTC.PK: APBGF.PK) Our roots and our name are American, but our business is global. We're part of people's lives in more than 40 countries, from the air they breathe to the water they drink to their level of safety on the highway. We do that through three businesses: Air Conditioning Systems and Services, Bath & Kitchen Products and Vehicle Control Systems

a spin off of American Standard which has been very profitable in China portfolio--they even have website china/american
http://americanstandard.com.cn/index.htm

odd thing is can't buy--never a bid or ask--another note is while etrade and a lot of sources list no dividends but do list div payable date-most of these stocks DO pay dividends--a couple I have had for several years(in china portfolio in this thread) CKISF and DENMF have paid dividends like clock work. Will buy some this stockof this if given opportunity.

Got back last year bought this same time from china and discussed with Kirk an observation on a new company SINA that all the younger generation there were changing to for cell phone carrier because of new text messaging and other goodies. Price then was about a buck a share now 39.00 --and I didn't buy a single share:eek:
Will give a run down on observations this year and if Kirk has time maybe he can make some recommendations.
The most notable is while most of china has very primitive toilets, some just trenches even in businesses they now are starting to go to modern toilets and evry place I went that had one were made by same US manufacter American Standard. Downfall this stock is pretty high around 80 bucks a share.
US food there. Pizza Hut a no go.Not many patrons because menu price WAY to high for most in China--McDonalds ALWAYS packed to the hilt.
Two markets I will be curious to see if Kirk can find any info on that will boom in next 5 years are water treatment as they have no choice now and high grade steel production.
They have many low grade but import most high grade.Reason for anticipated increase is they now have several car plants and coming Olympics in 2008. Would buy company now if available on US markey by name of Krupp from Germany who has joint venture with Shanghai to finish plant in 2006 or might consider one that is on US exchange by name of Posco that is S Korean company doing a lot of exporting there.

This makes me feel better. I ignored a guy who told me to buy one at 1.50 that reached 37.00. Cybercare. I think its a penny now or bankrupt. it was my shot at the lottery and i blew it. I have a pretty good pick coming up tho but i have to get the symbol from my buddy. You do the DD on it and see what you think. Its a company in my area. Ill try to get it tonight or tomorrow.

DTB I came to the PTR party a little late at $86. But some of my old friends from ASD had pushed be earlier, wish I had. But with the way it's held it's own a very nice stock. And who can kick with that div. BUT I have 135 shares. And think it might be smart to at least take profits on 25/35 shares. Just get that feel it's time to take a little off table. DO you get that hunch at times to.

Dj a good buddy of mine just threw down 30 G's on it. the source says it should go no lower than 3.50 but will eventually be a winner. I like to say more but i don't think its a good idea. I also would not post something like this if i didn't believe in it. Don't look for a surge overnight. If you have some extra coin around throw it down and forget about it for awhile.

DJV Don't know what to tell you on selling PTR.
However have found I don't get as mad at myself for taking profit and stock continues to climb as I do when I don't take profit and it falls--however wouldn't be to disappointed if it just held its own with 4% + dividend. Maybe stop loss is better-I set mine too close last time and it sold and ended up buying back at slightly higher price-so that cost me a little.

Got one I been watching that should have particular interest to you-have tried to purchase but no bid or ask which has me puzzeled--check out website

This is another stock that while only has price of 24 cents --pays a dividend.
While etrade says no div it shows div date--which I have found trumps their "no div" claim.

DTB this is new one on me. Some of my old friends still at ASD I asked to check it out. They did not know this was out there. It's seems it's a play from the Plant open in China 7 years ago on the A/C side. And a new plumping plant for toilets and accessories 3/4 years ago. They sell only to China market no export that they know of. However on A/C side a right to sell in Thailand and Malaysia is possible. But do to quality not as strong as A/C coming from US. They don't know if the contractors in those countries will consider this even if prices is lower. By the way the large compressors for this equipment is still built here and shipped to China for final assembly of equipment. I remember the trouble they had at A/C plant. Local mob boss almost like here in US. If some workers did not like how things were going or thought some got to be favorites of the bosses. They would walk of job for days at a time.
So this could be why growth is slow. By the way my old computer wanted 15 minutes to open your site with more info. So I didn't do it. Im waiting on one last guy that travels over there to get back to me. He is there making a swing threw the region do not know if he is stopping at the plant.
