i'm already sitting down.

:mj07:

That's the point...

Why be in a hurry to go doing something you are already doing..

Which brings up another topic for another thread.

Why are you in such a hurry to go sit down.

The mice that come home from work each day weaving in and out traffic chit chating on the damn phone.

What did they do all day..Sit on their ass.

What are they going to do when they get home after they weave in and out of traffic chit chating on the cell phone?

Sit on their damn asses.!!!!

Heres another parking lot pet peeve.

People who drive around for 15 minutes up and down lanes of parked cars looking for a "closer" spot than the ones theyve passed up already.

In the amount of time you wasted driving around, you'd already be wherever you were going. Plus, nine times out of ten they are the type of folks who could use the exercise from walking the extra 12 spaces.

Get the fawk outta my way, fatty!

It is most always safer to back in when parking rather than back out when leaving a parking spot. Note I said "most always".

The first-move-forward principle origninated due to the high frequency of incidents involving moving backwards first. If you apply this principle to your close calls over the years it will hold true. At least it did for me.

What really sold me on it was backing out of my driveway. I had a near miss with a kid on a bicylcle once. That's all it took to push me over the edge.

There is no doubt that your attention is higher when backing in to park rather than backing out to leave.

Now to the "most always". There are certain circumstances where backing in just doesn't make sense and is in fact more dangerous than the alternative. The obvious is angled parking spots going the other way. There are others.

What you need to understand is that there is a definite benefit to the first-move-forward policy and you should adhere to it every time you get a chance.

oh, oh!

I like to back into parking spots sometimes. Especially if I can't find a pull thru spot.

Get the hard work done early. Get out from shopping spree and zoom straight off! Am I lazy or what?

But I don't back up in front of someone, making them wait. Or worried about what they might do.

I hate backing up in parking lots with all the accidents waiting to happen. My insurance man told me no matter who is at fault, almost any accident
in a parking lot the insurance companies will assign partial fault to all parties involved.

terry...

i disagree with this...most times you can tell who is at fault by where the damage is on the cars...

Ok, Homedog touched on some of this, but furthur explination needed.

First, backing up with your stationary wheels first is easier than backing out with your turning wheels last. Simple geometry.

Second, It's harder to see oncoming traffic when backing out than when moving out forward, or turning around to back in spot you just immediately saw all the traffic, pedestrians, and accident possibilites. Less work and worry for me!

Thirdly, much less chance some pedestrian or car in your space backing into than in that harder to see trafficway you would, in the other case, be backing out to.

AR: I know, but my insurance guy sez it's a fact of life getting hit in parking lots.

Well I most always BACK IN!
It is much easier when you drive a full sized F250 and I find it much easier and much quicker as the turning radius is better when backing. I hate pulling in and I don't like people that don't like backer inners!!!! I'm sorry but until you have tried to front pull a big effin truck as compared to backing one in.............big difference.

With right-angle parking, it's often possible to back into a space so tight that you couldn't get into it forwards. That is, unless the lane between the parking spaces is pretty wide, much of your right-angle turn has to be completed when one end of the car is started into the parking space. Going forwards, your front end has to swing around far enough to straighten your car out without hitting the cars on either side. Backing in, the front end swing is all out where there's plenty of space. You've got to be careful of both the back corners of your car and where your side is sliding along near the outer corner of the other car, but they don't move as far to the side. I think it's pickup drivers who are most likely to have to work with such a tight squeeze because pickups are generally larger than cars.

BTW Jack, you sure have a lot of pet peeves. :142smilie

I hate the lazy sumbitches that block traffic in a parking lot just to waiting for someone to load there bags for a spot that is 50 feet closer to the door. Usually it is some fatass that could use the extra walking in the first place. On the subject of backing in I sometimes do when it is a wide open parking lot. Other than that naa.

Okay, well yeah, ............that one kind of bothers me too. I used to go to one with some co-workers for lunch and these fat bastards would sit there with three pieces of chicken, taters, meat loaf, beans, pot roast, and two nasty ass slices of heat lamp pizza and looking for one of those little bowls to put a damn baked potato the size of my shin in...............rididculous.

So yeah, I agree with that one......................we have a winner!!!!!!!!

Hope this helps,

On the course!
I don't care what any of you homos say, backing in is bullsihit, and pretty much fuking gay.

Most assholes I work with who back in say they do it because they can "leave work faster". Well, sure as shit stinks, YOU CAN!!! Guess what else? The rest of the shift could PARK FASTER if we didn't have to wait for your dim witted ass to park each morning!!!!!

I have yet to meet the guy who can consistantly back into a stall in one move. All of these morons need to line up, back in, pull back out, re-allign, and back in straight! WTF??????

PLUS, you have the added bonus that nine times out of ten, when a vehicle is parked on/over the stall lines, it is a backed in piece of shit!!!! So, you STILL didn't manage to park right after all your dancing around!

Meanwhile, normal folks are sitting there waiting for this retarded schtick to finish taking place each day.

It's bullshit. It's not needed. And you need to quit!

I've been backing out of parking stalls for 30 years, and never hit, or been hit! You take your time, and ease out.....pretty simple.

AMC Pacer is much easier to "pull right in". I will continue to back in and besides grandpa, I always park well away from any crowd if at all possible. Not because I am being overly cautious, more than likely I am afraid to get within eyeshot of some of the miserable looking front parkers such as yourself for instance. Maybe those of society that have a certain "economy of attributes" that may be considered pleasing to the eye should only shop late at night. Then everyone would benefit.

Hope that helps,

If you drive a vehicle you can't handle, trade down.

No one should think you are less of a man.

Here's "TheCoolOne" parked at the local mart, making sure to avoid the minions......

I notice someone managed to park his lowly rig the right way! Go figure? But, it was probably a working stiff, since it looks like a "regular" ride.
