I am a big believer in non-processed foods. I read the label of almost everything I eat. If I see any hydrogenated oil, high fructose corn syrup (BBQ sauces usually have this as the first ingredient---see Sweet Baby Rays---), I usually go to another brand that lists it later in the ingredient list.
Morris, I like you am (was) a big beer drinker---excluively Tequiza--but at 130 cals per pop when I was drinking a case + a week it adds up.
As far as low cal foods "that are tasty" I have found
that Kahsi makes a lot of high quality carbs snacks but they have some fiber in them which is better for you. I love their Go Lean line of products like instant oatmeal---the honey/cinnamon is awesome---like candy with fiber and protein---their cereals are packed with fiber and protein as well. Make sure they are Go Lean style though as they make other products that are much higher in the carb dept and less protein. The Go Lean crunch cereal is better than their regular. Makes a good snack too during the day giving you some good carbs for energy boost.
and their crackers and cookies are great in moderation, when you have that carb attack.
I love clementines and it is peak season for them now. Basically a small orange with no seeds and an easy peel. At 35 calories it goes good with the oatmeal.
If you are gonna eat a lot of salads it is imperative you find a dressing you like. I love Kens honey mustard and now have swithced to the lite version to save on the fat cals. Very tasty.
As far as breads go I always look for low carb stuff. I found these pockets and lavash (roll-ups) that are made of oat bran and flaxseed and they taste awesome. I have them with turkey or tuna and veges and a few hot pepper rings. For a snack I toast them and slather on all natural peanut butter--no salt added mmmmm. You can put a little pizza sauce and some cheese on them and they make great healthy individual pizzas. Or some olive oil and garlic mmmm are you getting hungry yet????
I get them in the deli section of Hannafords, Shaws or Stop and Shop. If you are gonna eat bread I highly suggest these treats.
Joseph's Flax, Oat Bran & Whole Wheat Flour Pita Bread:
NO Trans Fats

Reduced Carb
1 Pita =
Calories: 60
Total Fat: 2 g

Total Carbs: 8g
Dietary Fiber: 4g
Protein: 6g
Their lavash bread is just as tasty and you can wrap up a nice steak and cheese in them just stay away from the ketchup and mayo--how I normally eat them--A1 steak sauce is better for you believe it or not.
Nuts---all kinds---pistachios, cashews, walnuts, macadamias, almonds (my least favorite), sunflower seeds etc...all good for you in moderation. Don't eat a can of them just rifle down a handful or two and some water for a satisfying quick snack. Or mix them all together in a jar or zip lock baggie.
String cheese also low carb and easy to rifle down. 1 or 2 depending on hunger
I usually drink 1-2 diet sodas a day but i'm steering away from them this time. Love the Vault Zero though.
Fudgecicle makes low cal fudgecicle---about 45 cals--and a good chocolate taste when you get that urge.
No sugar added jello puddings are 25 cals /serving
I am making an honest effort not to eat past 7:30 this time as well. If I am hungry I will throw some protein powder in with a little milk and water and a few ice cubes. Hasn't happened yet though.
good luck guys---we should have a Biggest Loser Madjacks:shrug:
