Grackles are a huge problem in the Houston area and I have had good success in keeping them away by mounting a couple of owl decoys on the property.

Prowler Owl
claims to repel pigeons, crows, sparrows, starling, seagulls, GRACKLES, cormorants, vultures, small animals and rodents.

Got the same problem with Grackels here. The shit they are dropping is the baby shit from the nests. The mother picks it out and drops it where she wants to. They love our neighbor's pool and my blacktop driveway, along with our decks. We have tried everything, including the owl thing. Nothing short of trying to find the nests in the pines and knocking them down has worked. They will be gone soon as they hate hot weather and will head north to a cooler climate.

good to know. i do remember the same problem last year on a smaller scale and it was temporary.

our temperatures this year have been slow to get warm but we have 85 degrees today and hopefully the heat is here to stay and those bastids will leave soon.

thanks, i feel a little better.

i have these real aggressive bugs all of the sudden. They look a little like fire flies. The pricks think nothing about flying right on ya. These things are a pain in the ass and are starting to get in the house cause u carry them in with ya. Never saw them before. They come right at ya and are not afraid to die. Well, the first thousand weren't.

have they invaded your mom's basement?

Jack, the owl didn't work for me. I don't remember posting that, but it's true. Bad news is these birds will probably raise a second batch of chicks. :(

Six five, how much more mileage can u get out of that joke? That goes right up there with saying to a guy on net that he works at McDonalds or lives in a trailer. At least yyz cracks a funny one once a month.

On a lighter side i think i have box elder bugs. first time ever. These things are a pain in the ass and wouldn't mind having a yard full of those birds to eat these fukers.

they are grackels and will roost unless forced to move. I suggest a Rottweiller and picking up after you grill you sloppy bastid. If that doesn't work...............walk out there in your underwear, that should be enough to scare a Tiger from a rump roast'

Hope this helps,

I had the same problem last year and got some ideas here in a posting. Nothing really worked until the just moved on. I had fake owls, snakes, even these little dolphin looking things that moved in the pool with a breeze. This year HOWEVER I took fishing line and strung it cross-wise around the pool from fence. I took old CDs and tied those about 10 feet apart. I haven't stopped them completely but have cut down the crap on my pool cover and solar cover by at least 90%. I hopes this keeps working until they get used to it. Give it try it can't hurt.
