Ok guys....listen to this. I'm going round and round with MoneyGram. Appartently, back in December, I send a MoneyGram to BetJamaica for $100. I'm pretty sure I lost that $100 within a day and it was the last time I used that account until yesterday. I tried to log in and it wouldnt let me. So I called up the customer service line and they explained to me that there was a problem picking up the MoneyGram I had sent back in December. Interesting......since this is the first I am hearing about it.

So I call MoneyGram, and they tell me that they need to Receiver's name, DOB, and Place of Birth.

So I call BetJam back and they accommodate me and give me the info.

So I call MoneyGram again and give them the info. They tell me that the receiver's name that I am providing doesnt match.

So I call Betjam again.....they reconfirm and tell me that it is the right name. So I should just cancel the transaction and get a refund from MoneyGram, and we'll go from there. Fine....makes sense.

So I call MoneyGram...again. They say in order to cancel the transaction, I need to provide the receiver's name, DOB, and Place of Birth. WTF?!?! If I could do that, I would and then just let BetJam go and pick it up. I feel like I'm on some awful episode of punkd.

I had the door to my office shut, and was sarcastically explaining to the under-educated moneygram operator just what she was asking of me. I don't know how many times I heard...."I'm sorry sir, but I can't cancel the transaction without the necessary information. Don't you have the receipt?" IF I HAD THE RECEIPT, WOULD I BE GOING ROUND AND ROUND WITH YOU?!

JESUS CHRIST.

Bottom line, I don't want BetJam to not have their $100, but I don't feel like I should shell it out. And why should MoneyGram get to keep the $100? Seems like there should be something I could do.

HAPPY FUCKING WEDNESDAY EVERYONE!

i`m curious...how does the name that bet jam is providing not match the name that moneygram is looking for?.....

i mean the receiver, working for bet jam should know their own name... right?....if bet jam has no problem providing the person`s name, pob and dob,how is moneygram disputing this?..what kind of database are they working from?...

hard to believe that the betjam operator can`t provide this info to you correctly over the phione...

their person is picking up the money...no?

wtf?

On the course!
I had this same issue with BetJam about six months ago. I was lucky enough to get my cash back.

I sent a MG, and the MG people said the name was not the same on that end as the one I wrote on my end.

???????

I copied it direct from the email.

I'm guessing he meant how did you get your money back. I am curious too....

Oh, sorry.

I still had all the information from MG on my end. (reciept)

Went back down there and said, "I would like to cancel this transaction", and they did.

If YOUR money is still in their system, why can't you have YOUR money? Makes no sense to me.

it seems odd that bet jamaica would let a gambler use money that wasn`t cleared by them and in their system.....

the books i use won`t clear anything sent via western union until the money is in their kick...

"Moneygram is a service that allows people to transfer funds to others, this service has the same purpose as Western Union and Moneygram has emerged to give people another choice when they are looking for a method to send money to their loved ones either domestically or internationally in about one hundred different countries. So what is the difference between Moneygram and Western Union? Well, this service is a great deal cheaper than what Western Union offers to you so if you are looking to save a bit of money then Moneygram is most likely the right choice for you. The first time I used this service I had a mixed experience with it, I needed to send some money to China for a potential business deal and so I went onto the website to send the money and it took just a few minutes to fill out the information on the site. At the end of the process you do get a call from a Moneygram representative to verify the information that you entered into the site (this also happens with
the alternative but you must call them) and once you verify all of the information they ask you a few questions about yourself and when you answer them they process the transaction. I would say the phone verification took about five minutes just as the web process did and so the money was on its way available in ten minutes. The money was available instantly and my Chinese business deal was done the next day (there is a 12 hour time difference between New York and China) or at least that is what I was leaded to believe. The Chinese seller never did send me the goods and had ignored several requests for my goods and so I decided to call Moneygram and ask them for a refund since I still had all of my information and I had never gotten the goods but the representative told me that they were not responsible for the goods and since the money had already been picked up in China I essentially had no recourse in this matter. I asked her what I should do and she told me that there was
nothing I could do but wait for the goods, they were not willing to even give me back a portion of the money I lost despite knowing that the goods were never going to come. It has been six months now and I never did receive the goods. I ended up calling the Moneygram customer service back a month later and asking to speak to a supervisor and when I told him the situation I got the same reply I had been given before and I knew I was officially out of luck. I liked this service because it was very quick for me to be able to send the money and they charged me just $ 15.00 for the service which is a lot less than W.U. would have charged me. They also had a economical option which allows you to send the money and it will become available to the other party within three days but this service costs $10.00 so I figured I was better off using the more expensive one. This service was very good in terms of getting the money there, their service was a good value but I was very disappointed they did not help me when I did not get the items. However, I did like this service and I believe I will use it again despite their lack of locations in comparison to the other option."

might be better to stick with western union in the future...the difference in cost is minimal(considering the amount of a gambling deposit) and many books reimburse the cost to you...

Good post, wease. The whole thing just doesnt make sense to me. I don't know if BetJam's records from back in December are just mixed up or if MoneyGram is incorrect. Either way, since I don't have the receipt, there's no way for me to know. The money in question is technically BetJam's since the $100 I sent, i lost. Maybe they let me gamble it since I have been a customer there for so long and it was a low dollar amount? I can't answer that. I just have to think this could all have been avoided a long time ago. At the end of the day, I really just don't understand why I can't get a refund from MoneyGram, though.
