Can we get a consensus of how many thinks its the fault of gun owner to leave gun in/on their property vs the thief for stealing it.

I can just picture me catching one of these guys and taking them to court and getting some bleeding liberal judge--letting thief go and lecturing me how it was my fault he was a thief.:)

I think it is irresponsible for any gun owner to leave a gun in their vehicle. I don't think you take the danger seriously. Don't they sell gun safes for a reason?

If you report a theft like this, I think you should have your license to carry suspended.

Wayne: If they get caught, they should have the book thrown at them. Two separate issues here.

Good Morning, DTB. I see you are up to your old tricks.

No one mentioned that the thief is not at fault. A reasonable few, however, are shocked at Rick-n-Jax careless handling of his fire arms. Any 12 year old kid can smash a window and make off with his weapons. The subsequent blood spilled with that gun would be on the kid, legally, but would also be on Rick-n-Jax, morally.

--and good morning to you sir

I acknowledged fault of leaving doors unlocked in initial statement--

but not buying the liberal- its not their fault on criminals-
-on the any 12 year old--you may want to add 12 year old thief/delinquent--as in my neck of the woods 12 year olds don't routinely break windows and steal.

Of course this isn't any stranger than those trying to convince me in political forum that joining military is same as welfare :)

Actually, in civil court you would be at fault leaving a loaded gun in an unlocked car.

Even in the death of someone, say by a 12 year old in your neighborhood, you would be accessory to negligent homicide and lose just about everything you own because of the accessibility of the loaded weapon in an unlocked car.

As a gun carrier you are held to a higher moral code which is emphasized in certfication.

Loaded guns easily accessible in glove boxes without gun safes is LAZY. I understand having it out when in the car or not yet to your final destination but to just think you're not responsible is naive and a law suit waiting to happen...

On the course!
Wayne, no one said it isn't the criminal's fault. You seem to keep trying to wipe away your action by pointing out theirs.

Yes, it would be nice to think you can leave your doors unlocked, and things will be fine. It's another to actually believe it.

And Wayne that wasn't an attack, I really enjoy discussing tort law.

I know it wasn't -but I will check on that--I know laws are very stringent to protect children--if you have swimming pool and electric fence around it--and they manage to get in and drown--your gulity.

I'm not sure if that is correct when they are in act of committing crime--but worth investigating.
Maybe a legal beagle could tune us in.

YYZ--I'm layin 2/1 your a government employee--right or wrong?

YYZ--

Yea, I'm not a lawyer and could be wrong but the key here would be unlocked loaded gun where the shooter could contend if you had properly stowed the weapon, they could not have taken it, and thus they would not have shot someone... Crazy but I think that's close to accurate...

--You think ole dogs memory is that good :)

You better be worried about that gas they stole jack--if they burn someones property or themselves you'd be responsible according to several here because you did not have it secured. :SIB

When I get back from Houston, I'll look this case up. There is a case that is this exact situation where the guy was found to be at fault as well.

Only in America...
