Von Miller Tweets Super Bowl Prediction

Inspired by the recent recovery of his cousin, who was involved in a serious automobile crash, linebacker Von Miller on Tuesday guaranteed the Denver Broncos would win the Super Bowl next season.

Who Ya Got?

The odds-on favorites to win Super Bowl XLVIII, as provided by the Las Vegas Hotel (through Monday). Yes, Von Miller's team is in the conversation.
Patriots 5-1
49ers 7-1
Broncos 7-1
Seahawks 8-1
Packers 10-1

He initially posted his thoughts on Twitter, and then explained his thought process in an interview Tuesday with "The Herd With Colin Cowherd" on ESPN Radio.

"You can post this where ever.. Denver broncos will win the Super Bowl 2013 #4UJEREMIAH #IGUARANTEEIT58 if you are with us Retweet," he tweeted earlier Tuesday.

That tweet came after another tweet where he announced that his 6-year-old cousin, Jeremiah Clark-Martinez, had emerged from a coma.

"This is why we win the Super Bowl 2013. My little cousin Jeremiah came out of a coma from a car wreck In west Tx I [love] U," he wrote.

In the interview with ESPN Radio, he went into more detail about his cousin's recovery, explaining his boast wasn't about him "being cocky" but that his cousin had motivated him to make the bold guarantee.

"I was motivated by my younger cousin ... he got in a wreck about a week ago and he just came out of a coma a couple of days ago," he said. "His first couple of words was, they asked him a couple of questions and, of all the stuff to remember, he remembered that his cousin played for the Denver Broncos and his name was Von Miller."

That was enough to fire Miller up for the upcoming season.

"It just moved me and I'm motivated and I'm going to work extremely hard. Not like I haven't done it before, but this year it's just a little bit extra for me and I'm extremely motivated," he said.

When he was asked how Peyton Manning will react to his guarantee, Miller said he doesn't think his quarterback will mind.

"I think he already has a personal guarantee with himself," he said. "I'm not speaking for anybody else, I'm speaking for me and the work I'm going to do and the work I'm putting in this year, but I bet I have some guys in the locker room that's willing to work with me and take the path I'm willing to take."

The Broncos entered the playoffs last year as the No. 1 seed in the AFC, buoyed by Manning's Comeback Player of the Year season, but lost to the eventual-Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens in overtime after allowing a deflating 70-yard tying touchdown reception by Jacoby Jones with 31 seconds remaining in regulation.

Miller set a Broncos record last season with 18.5 sacks

Thanks to a Jets lineman, it?s probably going to be a lot more difficult to block knees in the NFL.

Giants co-owner John Mara, who is part of the league?s competition committee, said yesterday cut blocks ? single-player blocks to the knee area ? are likely to come with a lot more restrictions starting as soon as the 2013 season.

The anticipated crackdown comes in the wake of a cut block by Jets guard Matt Slauson last year that ended the season of Texans Pro Bowl linebacker Brian Cushing, and renewed questions about the fairness of the rulebook when it comes to defensive players.

Speaking at the Rockefeller Center announcement of a $60 million joint initiative between the NFL and GE to improve treatment for brain injuries, Mara said cut blocks were ?a major topic of discussion? at the most recent meetings of the competition committee.

?We talked to a lot of [defensive] players about that, and the players? view seems to be that, as long as they can see it coming and have the ability to defend themselves, it doesn?t trouble them so much,? Mara said. ?The ones they get troubled by are the ones that come from the side and from behind.?

Straight-on cut blocks would still be allowed, meaning teams that favor zone-blocking schemes like the Texans and Redskins would be allowed to continue that approach, but Mara indicated restrictions would be strengthened on blocks to the back or side of the knee and ?peel-back? blocks.

Cut blocks are often mistakenly confused with chop blocks, which are already illegal and are the result of two blockers engaging a defender high and low.

Should the owners approve the suggestions from the competition committee, defensive players should have reason to feel a lot better about the safety of their knees starting this seasonAn illegal peel-back block, meanwhile, is when a player blocks downfield and then doubles back to hit an unsuspecting defender from the back, side or below the waist. That is what Slauson did to Cushing, and even though no penalty was called for a block to the side of the knee that tore Cushing?s ACL, Slauson later was fined $10,000 by the NFL.

Peel-back blocks are currently legal if the blocker?s shoulder hits the front of the defender. Mara said the committee has come up with a pair of proposals to further limit blocks to the back or side of the knee that would be put to the owners at the annual league meetings week in Phoenix.

?Our rules [proposals] are designed to take those out of the game,? Mara said.

Asked if there is support from enough owners to implement the rules changes on cut blocks, Mara said: ?I think so.?

It sounded yesterday as if Mara already has at least one fellow owner on board. The Patriots? Robert Kraft endorsed it while speaking after the head-injury announcement.

?Anything that within reason can make our game safer is something we have to look at,? Kraft said.

)Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith didn't mince any words when asked about a potential NFL rule change on Thursday.

If the league's competition committee approves a rule outlawing contact that is initiated by the crown of the helmet, Smith says that will be proof that the league "has lost" its "mind.

Twenty four of 32 votes are needed to pass the safety-minded rule, which would apply to players on both sides of the ball when contact is made outside the tackle box.

The vote will be made at next week's owners meetings in Phoenix

"As ya'll like it" one more try Thursday in 10th 5-1 8 horse

The tuck rule is dead. Despite the love shown to one of the more ridiculous rules in the NFL by the influential Robert Kraft, the tuck rule is no more, having been abolished by the league at the 2013 NFL owners meetings. Along with that, the owners voted to pass a rule prohibiting runners and defenders from leading with the crown of their helmets.

It was a stunningly quick voting session by the owners on Wednesday, with the meetings wrapping up by 9:30 a.m. local time, suggesting that all the proposals passed by significant margin. (Some reports indicate it passed 31-1.)

One of the more obvious selections for passage was a rule to fix the Thanksgiving challenge fiasco that the Lions encountered when Jim Schwartz tried to challenge a Justin Forsett touchdown and therefore negated the official's ability to review the scoring play. Instead, a challenge of a play like that will result in a 15-yard penalty with the original play being reviewed.

That rule needed to be changed, obviously. And at least one team is happy about it:

Adios, Tuck Rule.
? OAKLAND RAIDERS (@RAIDERS) March 20, 2013

Oakland was on the losing end of the play in question, when a Tom Brady fumble was ruled an incompletion during a January 2002 playoff game. The Patriots abstained from voting on the amendment, as did the Redskins, likely because Washington GM Bruce Allen was with the Raiders at the time of the tuck-rule game. The Steelers were the only team that voted to keep the tuck rule in place.

The leading-with-the-crown-of-your-helmet rule is a much more controversial new rule. Both offensive and defensive players who lead with the top of the helmet will be flagged 15 yards in certain, specific circumstances. Should both players be flagged, the penalties will offset and the teams will replay the down.

"It is a foul if a runner or tackler initiates forcible contact by delivering a blow with the top/crown of his helmet against an opponent when both players are clearly outside the tackle box (an area extending from tackle to tackle and from three yards beyond the line of scrimmage to the offensive team's end line)," the new rule -- Rule 12, Section 2, Article 8 -- reads. "Incidental contact by the helmet of a runner or tackler against an opponent shall not be a foul."

It'll be interesting to see whether officials can accurately interpret and apply the rule during the coming season. At the very least, we know that a good number of running backs around the NFL, both past and present, aren't happy about it.

In addition to those three main rule changes, the NFL passed a rule that will allow tight ends and H-backs to wear numbers 40-49 as well as 80-89 and a rule that makes "peel back" blocks illegal.

"A player who is aligned in the tackle box when the ball is snapped cannot initiate contact on the side and below the waist against an opponent if (a) the blocker is moving toward his own end line; and (b) he approaches the opponent from behind or from the side," Rule 12, Section 2, Article 4 now reads

any hope for the bills with kolb and jackson?

Don't book-it Dan-o.....

The always-outspoken Buffalo Bills wide receiver ruffled a few feathers in New England on Wednesday night when he started talking about North Korea's escalating nuclear threats toward the United States and other world powers. But if Kim Jong Un and his pals won't "chill out," Johnson said, there's one spot he wouldn't miss if it was targeted.

That place? Foxboro, Massachusetts, home of the New England Patriots and a location where the Bills haven't recorded a victory since November 5, 2000.

Odds to Win Super Bowl XLVIII at BOVADA as of March 14:

Denver Broncos 7/1
San Francisco 49ers 7/1
New England Patriots 15/2 ?? whats this
Seattle Seahawks 10/1
Atlanta Falcons 12/1
Green Bay Packers 12/1
Houston Texans 16/1
New Orleans Saints 16/1
Baltimore Ravens 20/1
New York Giants 20/1
Pittsburgh Steelers 20/1
Chicago Bears 25/1
Dallas Cowboys 25/1
Washington Redskins 25/1
Philadelphia Eagles 30/1
Cincinnati Bengals 35/1
Detroit Lions 35/1
Indianapolis Colts 35/1
Miami Dolphins 35/1
San Diego Chargers 40/1
Kansas City Chiefs 45/1
Carolina Panthers 50/1
Minnesota Vikings 50/1

thanks for sharing the info, Sko!!

I'm leaning Broncos & 49ers this year, but will wait until pre-season kicks off first game for official play.

Just think 49ers off-season acquisitions, what they have back already and their chemistry, that should get them back there and Peyton is running out of steam to get to another one, but Denver has the weapons and had a great streak to end the year before Ravens back doored them, actually Denver allowed it to happen, great defense and taking themselves out of FG opportunity, anyways.

I can envision those two teams playing in February 2014!!

Chip Kelly already has changed the way the Philadelphia Eagles do almost everything.

From music blaring during practice to players wearing heart monitors on the field and drinking individualized protein shakes waiting for them afterward, Kelly?s has made his mark. He?s installed a new system and preached a new philosophy. He?s invigorated the franchise with fresh ideas that some players already had determined ? after just a couple non-contact, no-pads practices ? will revolutionize the NFL.

?It?s insane. From a communication standpoint, it?s going to change the game,? tight end Brent Celek said. ?Just the way they can communicate plays and get us into stuff that?s pretty cool. It?s something I never even thought was possible in the NFL. He has a reason why each play is called what it is. And it all makes sense.?

Lured away from Oregon to replace Andy Reid, Kelly brought his high-octane, up-tempo offense to the pros. Everyone wants to know if his success at college will translate at the next level.

The Ducks averaged an astounding 44.7 points per game in Kelly?s four years, going 46-7. But the NFC East isn?t the Pac-12.

That doesn?t mean Kelly won?t try it his way.

Players saw firsthand how fast-paced Kelly?s offense will be in three practices last week. Kelly wants to run a play every 12 seconds, so he gets them ready for it in practice. They run a ton of plays, move around quickly and don?t spend much time waiting, doing nothing.

?What we want to do is get our work done,? Kelly said. ?We?re not going to be out there for a long time, so I would argue that we don?t practice as long as other teams. It?s just we try to eliminate and be as efficient as possible. There are two speeds in football, there is game speed and teach speed. If you?re going to do something else at any other speed, why do it??

Considering Kelly?s unique approach, many are wondering how he?ll handle this week?s draft. The Eagles hold the No. 4 overall pick and have several holes to fill after a 4-12 season.

A franchise quarterback is a priority, though Kelly insists Michael Vick and Nick Foles can do the job. Many draft analysts predict the Eagles will take West Virginia?s Geno Smith at No. 4. Florida State?s EJ Manuel and Syracuse?s Ryan Nassib are also possibilities later in the draft.

As expected, neither Kelly nor general manager Howie Roseman gave any indication of the team?s thinking.

?I think there are some quality players in this draft, and that?s our job to kind of figure that out,? Kelly said. ?I don?t think by any stretch of the imagination there is a slam dunk anywhere.?

If Kelly wants the Eagles to be the NFL version of the Ducks, he?ll need players similar to the guys he recruited at Oregon. That means athletic offensive linemen in excellent shape, and quick, speedy guys across the board on offense and defense.

Perhaps Kelly will start a new trend if he wins.

?I think we?ll be in the best shape in the league for sure,? running back LeSean McCoy said. ?Just the fast pace. There?s never a time when we?re breaking. We hustle to working out, lifting weights, everything. Even the meetings are fast. That high tempo, that high pace is a different presence to the defense because you get those 30 seconds of rest, you look to see what personnel they?re bringing in.

?In this offense, we?re shifting, we?re moving and as soon as you get tackled there?s no celebration after the play, it?s strictly get the next play and let?s go. I think I want to say by the second or third quarter, teams will be tired. As you?ve seen at Oregon, that?s really how they won a lot of their games, by scoring points so fast. As a defense, you don?t really get a chance to adjust because you?re moving so much.?

Kelly also likes versatile players, especially on defense. He still won?t commit to running a 3-4 front 100 percent of the time

Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington was arrested Friday after being accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, who authorities said is the mother of his baby daughter.

Maricopa County prosecutors said Washington posted $4,200 bond and was released following his initial court appearance after he had been booked into jail on suspicion of two counts of aggravated assault.

A probable cause statement released by Phoenix police said Washington's ex-girlfriend claimed he grabbed her by the throat and shoved her to the ground following an argument at her apartment Wednesday.

The woman told police that Washington also pushed her with two hands, causing her to fall and break her right collarbone, according to court documents.

Sgt. Steve Martos, a Phoenix police spokesman, said officers later interviewed the woman and their report noted her clavicle injury along with ''road-rash type of scrapes, bruising and cuts to her right arm, right hip and right leg.''

The alleged assaults occurred inside the woman's apartment and in a parking lot after Washington and his ex-girlfriend argued during his visitation with the 5-month-old child, Martos said.

Washington, 26, is expected back in court May 9 for a status conference with a preliminary hearing set for May 13.

A call to Washington's Dallas-based agent, Jordan Woy, wasn't immediately returned Friday afternoon.

Washington said in a statement that ''this is a legal matter and I am limited in what I can say other than that my lawyer and I will continue to cooperate with investigators and welcome the opportunity for all the facts to be presented.

''I regret that the situation has brought this kind of attention to my family and my team. I look forward to resolving it as soon as possible,'' added Washington, a former second-round draft pick who was a Pro Bowl alternate last season.

The Cardinals said in a statement before Washington was arrested that ''these are serious accusations that we are closely monitoring. Until all the facts are determined and out of respect to the process, we will decline any further comment at this point.''

Washington led the Cardinals with 134 tackles - 108 of them solo - and nine sacks last season and signed a six-year contract extension in September.

He was suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

I guess assaulting his ex-girlfriend Washington will be called a "substance abuser"

When the Buffalo Bills announced the signing of defensive end Mario Williams at a press conference in March 2012, his fiancee Erin Marzouki was by his side. As Williams prepares for his second season in Buffalo, Marzouki is out of the picture and the next time he sees her may be in court.

The 28-year-old NFL star filed a lawsuit against his ex-fiancee in Harris County Court in Houston to recover a $785,000, 10-carat diamond engagement ring, according to NFL.com.

?[Marzouki] never intended to marry [Williams] and used the relationship as a means to get to [Williams?] money and acquire gifts,? said the lawsuit, via The Houston Chroncle.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, Williams played the first six seasons of his career with the Texans. After earning two Pro Bowl nods while in Houston, Williams signed a massive six-year free agent contract with the Bills worth potentially $100 million before the 2012 season.

Williams, who has one of the richest contracts in the NFL, also alleges in his lawsuit, according to The Buffalo News, that Marzouki agreed to return the ring if the wedding never took place. According to the Houston Chronicle, Williams claims that she ?unilaterally terminated? the engagement on Jan. 21, 2013.

Yes, the NFL is exempt from paying federal taxes. It's officially classified by the IRS as a 501(c)(6) organization, which refers to a section of the tax code that describes kinds of non-profit entities.

This one is Love.........

Washington Redskins superstar Robert Griffin III, otherwise known as RGIII, is set to marry his fiancee, Rebecca Liddicoat, this summer, his mother reportedly revealed.

The famous quarterback's mom, Jackie, sat down for an interview with Fox D.C.'s WTTG to talk about her son with reporter Shawn Yancy. She discussed how he enjoys spending time at home, how he texts her before most games and how much he loves his fans. She also allegedly spilled the beans about his walking down the aisle, telling Yancy that RGIII will marry Liddicoat in just a few months.

The Washington Post spotted an online registry that appears to belong to RGIII and Liddicoat, revealing a wedding date of July 6 in Virginia. A Bed Bath and Beyond registry listed for Griffin and Liddicoat for a July 6 wedding appears to confirm this.

Griffin and Liddicoat got engaged back in 2010 after a big win over Kansas State. He had prepared beforehand and told her to meet him at Baylor University's indoor football practice facility. He brought candles and his father brought the ring.

"I had one of my teammates playing the guitar, so I talked to her and serenaded her," he recounted to the Star Telegram in 2010. "I walked into the middle where her family was standing with candles and I popped the question. I couldn't see her face to see her crying, because it was so dark. But when I kissed her I felt the wetness on her cheeks.''

At the time, the two did not have a wedding date set.

The 23-year-old faced a devastating knee injury at the end of his stellar rookie season, but he says he is feeling strong again.

"I'm doing great. The knee feels fine," he told the Associated Press this week. "It's about taking it slow, and each day is a better day because the knee feels better and you do more things. It's just a process that I'm going through."
