I have been smoking for a little over 7 years... I have tried numerous times to quit, most lasting no longer then 5 months... I feel like it is not hard to actually quit, its the staying off part that gets me... I use patches and gum.. Maybe its all psychological..

any advice from anyone who has quit this disgusting habit would be much appreciated..... thanks

Do you want your son to start?

Although I have never smoked, now that my daughter is 8, there are a lot of things I look at differently and habits I have changed. I can't exactly relate from the nicotine perspective, but sometimes looking from the outside in helps, especially when you do have to be the example. Gl LDB, you seem like a good guy.

Very good point... this might just be the extra incentive I need... thanks ...

Chantix worked for me. Don't get any more than a 1 month supply and quit after that. If you make it one month without the smokes you should be home free.

You still have to really want to do this because that little guy stays on your shoulder for a long time trying to convince you it's okay to have just one. It's NOT okay.

I started smoking an occasional cigar a few months back and it's NOT okay for me to do that either. I told myself it was okay to have a cigar when I was drinking my wine or beer. Before long I was making excuses to have a bottle of wine (just so I could have a cigar with it, I suppose). No more! I'm done.

It's really not that hard, just don't smoke. Seriously.

Use bupropion hydrochloride (sold with the brand name Zyban when used for smoking cessation) and you will not even have to try to quit. You will just find yourself without any urges to smoke. Nothing beats quitting without even trying! I used it and within a week I found I just didn't even want one. I also found that I did not have any relapses. I have been smoke free for a year and a half now. One word of caution: one of the potential side effects is EXTREMELY vivid dreams, often violent, for the first few days of taking the medication. They definitely qualified as the craziest dreams I've ever had.

When I first attempted to quit they told me to try the patches and gum first and if that didnt work then they would give me chantix.. I think im going to try it out... I heard great things about it... Why do you say stop taking it after a month?

thought about a cold beer the other day with the awesome crabs we had for the holiday...just told myself..nope not today..

finished of Jimmy Crab #12 and reached for a cig..nope..not today..

Because that's all I needed. The first time I tried with Chantix I started getting a lot of weird side effects starting about 6 or 7 weeks in. I quit taking it and went back to smoking.

Then, after smoking about 6 more months I decided to try Chantix my way, to avoid the side effects and it worked for me. I also did not double the dose after week #1, I just starting breaking them in half. My only side effect was the vivid dreams but I really liked those. They were great :0074

Chantix is also identified as having the most violent side effects drug as noted by the FDA.

Just saying.

easier said then done..

how? if i dont want to drink alcohol, i don't. i don't go to the store and buy it. if you don't want to smoke, don't go to the store and smoke.

Just quit it really isn't that tough

agreed. if you don't wanna do something, just don't do it lol

i've talked to a lot of people on this issue. most people say it's not that easy, but they're still smoking, so i say, well you didn't try hard enough. then the people who quit told me they just quit cold turkey and that was it.

there are a lot of things that i like to do in life or have a habit of doing, and if i wanted to quit, i'd just stop.

No one mentioned this. Don't go around people who smoke, if you do have one don't feel you've failed and start doing it again, and stay away from drinking. :0008

8 Months cold turkey for me. You have to want to quit.

Day 1 and 2 sucked.

Day 3 sucked.

Day 4 sucked.

Day 5 through 20 sucked.

Day 21 through 35 were ok.

Check that, they sucked too.

I think I stopped googling "how do I get through day n not smoking" around 45.

I also hid for 6 weeks, didn't go out, no bars, shit like that.

I put on 35lbs

I have saved roughly $2880.00 not supporting my 2 pack a day habit.

I chew the shit out of sunflower seeds. Roughly $300 worth so far.

We are starting a family and that was the motivation for me. That along with the inherit benefit of more sex while starting a family.

I smoked a cigar at a wedding about 3 weeks ago. I had purposely avoided cigars for fear of wanting to smoke after having one but luckily I did not wake up with that craving.

I still think about smoking but its not craving like it was during the first 6 weeks. I don't instinctively roll down the car window anymore.

Taste and smell has changed for the better. Hunger has changed. Breathing has changed, I don't "hock" like I used to. I don't spit up thick clear shit in the mornings anymore.

I hope you want to quit.
