I know there are fellow MadJackers out there in a similar situation to mine. Good jobs are getting harder and harder to find. The government isn't very rewarding to those of us who have contributed well to the system and have now hit some roadblocks. Some of us are having to think outside the box for ways of helping ourselves.

I have found one thing that can help. Angel Food Ministries http://www.angelfoodministries.com is a low-cost program to help with the basics and is available to all regardless of income. There is no application and no judgmental civil servant lording over you with an attitude. You can even place your order online and pick it up at a distribution point close to your home.

The basic box is $30 and includes about a week's worth of food for a family of 4. Multiple boxes can be purchased and specialty boxes are also available. The basic box for March includes:

Other boxes are available as well, including a fruit and veggie box for $22, and a 6 lb. "meat grill" box for $23.

I recognize that the box isn't the most nutritious selection but, other than Agent and Hippo, I don't know that many folks who don't indulge in a little "boxed" or comfort food once in awhile. I hope this can help some of you stretch your food dollars just a little bit more!

In the shadows
Very Good Info VA Nurse,
I checked to see if there
is a local chapter in my AO.
There is not, however there
are several food banks that
are always in need.

It just kills me to think that
this happens in America. :nono:

this is a great ministry and service. We do it at our church and actually deliver 1 saturday a month to people who can't make it out easily. We also pay for 10 of these a month for some families of underprivileged students at a local elementary school we have adopted. The food is good, and there's a lot of it.

Yes sir---and might add he donates one of lifes most valuable assets on regular basis--"his time" -away from family and friends--as he does volunteer medical work in 3rd world countries.

Is any of that stuff organic?

Probably not, unless it's donated. There is a point where hunger overcomes elitism and there are times when anything with a smidgen of nutrition is welcomed without criticism. I truly hope you and your family never find yourselves there.

Though agent was obviously just joking in his normal jackass way, your point is valid. Looks like a great cause and something I am going to look to get involved with. Thank You

I've never seen someone tell agent to fuck off in such a polite way. Nice work.

Very well put. Are you sure you're not in the wrong profession?

I think that's what she did, or maybe hospice I think? Anyway, it's not always easy to get a job now. Sure hope u find gainful employment soon, M!

THanks for the comments. Sure didn't mean to get them. Need to keep my mouth closed, but I have such a passion for this stuff. Lots more deserving people of praise than me.
