Dr. Matt Valente
Our government really needs to stop commercial flights from West Africa from entering this country immediately. If ebola develops a natural reservoir here, we will never be able to distinguish between someone with the common cold & someone with ebola. The difference is that if you shake someone's hand who has ebola, you have a 60-85% chance of dying within 3 weeks. It has the potential to destroy our economy, kill vast quantities of civilians & healthcare providers, and be impossible to control if it is allowed to anchor itself. It may spread here regardless, but shouldn't we at least TRY to stop it? It is the most deadly disease on this planet. That is a fact. Why are we being so naive?
West African flights should be screened. Why shouldn't they? Why allow a very small percentage of people to put the 319 million as BetOne stated at risk. .
If Ebola develops... This is a what if scenario. Worst case scenario.
Ebola and flu share similar symptoms. Identifying Ebola from flu in flu season would be very difficult.
The rest is what if worst case again.
I saw the point of the quote, let's prescreen West African flights to ensure we mitigate risk to general population.
That is my point.
I agree. Don't allow free entry without screening into the country from West Africa.
