I just bought a 6 gallon glass jug, a rubber bung, and a bucket of merlot grape juice. I hope I don't eff it up the first time around. I'm being coached through the process by an older european guy from work that slaughters animals and makes sausage in his garage (he obviously knows what he is doing).

Anybody else ever do this?

I got a friend that is really into this. I have tried the peach and it is really good. He claims his best is honeysuckle but it is still fermenting or aging.

I'm pretty excited to see the results. I guess it takes around a month to ferment. I've seen recipes for the flavored wines you mentioned, but I'm not messing with the flavors until I get a feel for the basics.

i was just outside taking a 'moke wondering what i will drink when i get back from the ravens game 'cause i drank all my beer last night.

i remembered that my FIL brought me a jug of wine he made about 6 weeks ago. i'll let you know how it is and get you the recipe if it's any good and you want it.

hope it doesn't give me the chits.

Let me know how it is. My buddy (Kosta) told me that the homemade stuff is stronger, so he said "When you drink it, just stay home". Might want to heed that advice.

I'm not sure about the recipe stuff. The recipe I used is as follows:

Grape juice

Also: Since you didn't answer me in the HK Contest thread, what did "FYP" mean? I was thinking "Feel Your Penis",but that didn't seem appropriate....but I did it anyway.:SIB

I finished the first 6 gallons back in February....amazing how fast a motivated young man can fire through that much wine.

Verdict on Batch #1: Way better than I thought it would be and I would go as far as to say it was very good. If it would have been bad, I would have pitched it.
The thing that was a little odd is that it had a carbonated-like zip to it when you first sip it. It faded as you drank it and the "zip" was almost completely gone as I slowly worked my way through the glass jug.
Surprisingly, it wasn't all that strong. I heard my buddy say that he mixes water with the grape juice to thin out the alcohol, so I was prepared to drink moon shine with the first bottle...but it wasn't strong at all.

I just bought 6 more gallons of the grape juice and started up batch #2. For the halibut, I added a pint of distilled water. Maybe that will take out a little of that zip.

I know this is an old thread, but I heard a guy talking about making dandelion wine recently. People also make watermelon wine around here too.
