Your grandson is in danger every day he doesn't have his vaccine's. I know Portland is full of "Progressive" types, but vaccines are important. Look into it. Maybe focus some of your attention toward a loved one? Maybe not so much what Buddy thinks right now is important.

Hope that helps,

J

agree here, not sure why any individual(not just the boys) with no research would go against years and years or research and proof that vaccinations have eradicated diseases, ie polio

MAYBE A GOOD RULE IS TO PADDLE WITH OPEN HAND TILL A CERTAIN AGE AND WHEN THE EMBARRASSMENT AND/OR PAIN OF IT DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE, YOU BETTER HAVE COME UP WITH SOMETHING ELSE. BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE I WAS A KID, BUT A COUPLE SMACKS WITH AN OPEN HAND COULDN'T HURT MUCH AFTER 7-8, BUT IS MORE OF AN EMBARRASSMENT......ANY PADDLES ARE A NO - NO..I MAY BE WRONG JUST AN OPINION.

just some observations of todays modern parenting??

the timeout?..is a fuking joke.

the countdown?.you better stop mis-behaving??. one, two, three.

the question??.little tommy, do you want to put your coat on now? are you ready to go?

in todays world more often than not, the kids run the show and the parents are their lackeys.
I've witnessed it over and over again. in my own family and by just observing
how customers handle their kids that come into my shop.

not saying, spanking or hitting is the answer. but be the parent and teach your kid respect for others and himself. most of all, lead by example. kids learn at a young age what they can get away with. i think todays parenting has gone way to far in the other direction. way to soft nowadays. theres gotta be a middle ground somewhere.

im 50, my kids are all in their 20's now. i never spanked any of them. but i think i did a good job. my kids all know right from wrong and are very good hearted loving people.
when i was 12i was beat up once from my father for dis-respecting him in front of others. i deserved it and i NEVER did it again.we were paddled also at home and at school.nothing to severe but that was the way things were done in my era. i don't hold any hard feelings towards my parents or teachers.i know I'm better off from that type of discipline. my parents could give you the LOOK and you knew that you better stop doing whatever the fuk you were doing. that was the way it was. there wasn't any timeout bullshit.

but there is a fine line. bending a 4 yr. old over and hitting his bare-ass with a switch tell he bleeds from numerous cuts?? well thats crossing over that line in my opinion.

Yes, I believe in spanking

I haven't had to spank my kids yet, I use other methods first and they work great

It's possible. It just takes much, much more effort. That's one knock on consistent physical punishment. It's lazy parenting. Being good parents requires CONSTANT attention, constant instruction. I've found lazy parents let things slide all day and then blow up at some point. You've always got to be "on" to be a good parent.

This. An example are my nephews. Fortunate thing is both my brother and his wife are teachers so they already had the ability to apply this. Problem is many do not have this foundation and at the risk of sounding like I am making an excuse for certain parents, with the growth of single parents and other factors, many simply might not have the TIME.

Another thing, do you see people smacking around dogs to train them? I don't. If you don't use it to train animals there is no reason a human should need it.

I think it has a lot to do with your upbringing. I was never spanked and I never spanked my son and I'm sure he wont spank his. You do realize how afraid your kids are when you spank them. I can only imagine what goes through their heads. Probably something like why is daddy hitting me, they think hit and you say spank. That's complete bullshit, You are hitting them. Maybe before you hit your kids again you should seek therapy.

There are still schools that apply a corporal punishment of a paddle spanking. The parents are required to sign permission slips etc....

Kind of out dated but interesting.

Almost 40% of all the cases of corporal punishment occur in just two states: Texas and Mississippi, and if we add Arkansas, Alabama and Georgia, these five states account for almost three quarters of all the nation's school paddlings.

First of all, spanking a child has been and continues to be the leading form of behavior control since we were beating the shit out of the bitch in the next cave over, mounting her and then dragging her by the hair back to your own cave to cook and raise your kids.
Everyone needs to quit acting as if they stand on higher moral ground. Every one of you has done something in your life that, if allowed to be sensationalized in the media, may be abhorrent to others in our or another culture. For fucks sake, give someone a thumbs up in Korea and see what happens to you. How many times have you heard good people and fabulous parents tell their children they're going to get a whack if they keep it up? "You're gonna get it", etc... The threat alone is usually enough. I'm sure sometimes it's not.
The point is, it's not now and never has been your call to judge the actions of another parent. That type of discipline has been woven into the fabric of our society since time began and only now because news outlets are getting all kinds of mileage out of a single incident, your appalled? Get over yourselves, none of you are that good of a person, myself included, to pass judgement on the guy in the first place.
