ok, my dad was a 40 year employee of verizon, he has some special employee contract, although he has been retired for several years. My mother uses the cell phone when she is out doing errands, it's important to have it, because my dad is terminally ill with cancer & quite sick. The battery in the phone is terrible, needs to be charged every hour or so. Basically a accident waiting to happen.

I just want to upgrade the phone to something new. Not change the contract or anything. I have the telephone number, and my father s social security #. Can I get this accomplished online.

Thank you in advance

I know with Cingular if you have even a Business account you cannot upgrade your phone online.

I would assume since its a special contract/deal that you would have to call.

Probably not. Just call them and act like him. Verizon is SUPER helpful online.

What phone model is it? Sounds like maybe they didn't build up the battery memory right.

Unfortunately verizon is cdma and not gsm. Meaning that you cannot just go out and buy an unlocked phone and put in the sim cards as verizon does not use sim cards.

What you may want to do is since you have all his info, may help also to have a bill, but call up verizon customer service and ask them to see if his account is elgible for a hardware upgrade without changing the plan. They may charge you a small fee for the cost of the new phone and the switch over, but should not be a problem!

Just call them and see what they can do for you. But make sure to explain to them you do not want to change your plan.

Good luck with it

we have the same name so, I could easily call myself. Agent, the phone is just old, like 8 years or so. You probably couldn't even replace the battery if you wanted to now.

8 years!:com: Is it one of those old big things?:mj07:

But seriously, Verizon has the new every 2 deal where you get a new phone every 2 years for free.

Warning: Your Dad will HATE the new phone, no matter how good it is. Just make sure you DON'T get a Razor, and you get an LG with big numbers and big display.

you don't have to pretend like him at all

tell him you are his son, and he is terminally ill and cannot speak on the phone.

tell them to fck off if they can't help you and scream you are going to sue their ass off under the disability act (just made this up, but there probably is a law and they don't know any better). any customer service rep should be able to help you then. if not speak to a manager and go through the same thing.

pretending you are him is just dumb. you are his caregiver and are allowed to speak on his behalf....

I TOTALLY agree with Bleeddodgerblue---if that phone is CLOSE to 8 years old--THEY owe you (your father) A NEW phone+++he worked for them---call or just stop by a store , since you have the same name(you could prob. do the upgrade yourself. ---OR--

Just go by a store (explain he worked for Verizon AND has term. cancer and CANNOT come in---I'm sure they'll give you (him)that upgrade

good Luck---and

All The Best,

Michael

Funny you mention that big phone.

My last job I worked with a guy who was ehhh about 45 years old. He wasn't old school at all or anything like that, he was just kinda strange LOL. Anyways, he'd always say he had one of those old cell phones and it still works like a dream. I never believed him because he didn't come accross as someone who'd have an old phone.

Anyways, he brought it in to work one day and let me use it.

As a young buck, I'd have to say that thing was really cool to see and use. However, I wouldn't like to carry around a phone that's bigger than my home telephone right now!

That reminds me of a situation I ran into at work one time. Someone brought a '94 Honda Accord in for service and it had the optional in-dash phone. A couple of guys got a good laugh out of it. I told them that it probably still worked, even though it was on an old system. They thought I was full of it until I called their phone using the car's phone. Damn thing had good reception but the call probably cost a few bucks. :mj07:

Not sure about the answer to the question, but I had to respond to this. If shammy calls Verizon, he will be talking to an employee of AFNI here in Bowling Green. That has to be the worst job in B.G., and their turnover rate is through the roof. I know over a dozen people that have worked there. I know how upset I've been calling Cingular/at&t over screwed up bills; with Afni covering all the east coast yankees who are mad, I know that would suck! Sham, make sure you've polished up on your Southern lingo! :mj07: Seriously, if you call, ask the person if they are in Bowling Green, and you've heard from a friend named SixFive that it's a great place to live, and that might soften them up enough to go overboard to help you. GL!

i bought a phone for my wife about a year ago. i also purchased the insurance (a 2 year plan covering loos or damage). she didn't like the phone  so the next week i went in to cancel it and get credited back.

no problem EXCEPT, the $70 insurance is NOT refundable. WTF?

i am returning the phone, it's never been used, it's never even been opened. we will not be using it and i have to pay for the insurance anyway? forget it i'm not paying it. nothing she could do. bullshit, call you manager. she calls and it's non-refundable. bullshit, call somebody else because I am not going to pay that. she calls someone else and it's non-refundable.

instead of making my scene any worse with about 6 people waiting behind me for service i said "fine, don't refund it. refund everything else. as soon as i get my amex bill i am going to reverse the charge". so, she makes another phone call telling them what my plan was going to be. cancelled charges.

what a bunch of crap.

i changed my plan (more minutes) about 8 months into my 2 year obligation with them. they started my 2 years all the way back to scratch because i made a change to my plan. jesus, i increased the amount of money they will get from me every fcuking month and the greedy bastids screw me over for an extra 8 months on top of THAT??!!
