If Obama wins the McCain people will not stop slinging mud and will fight every inititive tooth and nail. It will get very ugly as they try to discredit Obama at every chance they get. Just my opinion.

I can't stand Al Gore. He's not 'my boy' and the environmentalists are almost as annoying as PETA.

The fact remains that Nader cost him Florida in 2000. If he had won Florida, he would have won the election. Therefore, Nader cost him the election.

It's not that complicated.

I glad to hear your take on Gore--it restores my confidence in you.

Yep if he won Florida he'd won election--however if he'd carried his own state he won election also.

On 3rd party candidates--do you think Bill had remote chance of winning 1st time had it not been for Ross Perot--you win some--you lose some.

Kosar, you are easily one of the brightest guys on this board, but WTF kinda logic is that?

Thats like saying it was my fault the drunk driver hit me on my way to work because I should have called off that day.

You are better than this.

I'm sure you're aware the same will happen if McCain wins. The highly partisan folks, like yourself, are helping bring down this house.

Penguinfan, are you one of those guys that loves to make analogies, but they're usually really bad analogies, like this one?

No one's argueing against 3rd Party/Independent candidates but the facts are the facts. You remove Nader from the equation in 2000 and Gore wins that election easily. Nader supporters, when polled, favored Gore over Bush by a wide margin.

So it's not possible that states that Bush lost would have went to Bush if not for Nader supporters?

I hate Bush more than most, but Nader did not win him the election.

I might have put it in a overly simplistic way by saying that Nader cost Gore the election, but if Nader was not in the picture, Gore would have won.

As far as Bush losing votes, that's not even close to being true in any state. Nader pulled votes from Gore as opposed to Bush at about a 85/15 rate everywhere.

Been there done that, PEROT instead of Bush, read my lips, you don't get my vote.

"Been there, done that"

This is the phrase that when someone says it, it tells me that they think they are a lot smarter than they really are. There really isn't a dumber phrase.

BTW, I voted for Perot as well that year. :)

Keep voting for the jackasses that the Dems and Reps put in front of us. It's really been working out well lately.

Bush has gotten everything he has wanted for EIGHT YEARS. He has only done two vetos I believe. Don't try to blame this meltdown the country is going through on partisian politics. Guys who voted along with Bush are the problem. That is both Democrat and Republican alike. I have stated this many times and I will say it once again, it is the Neocons who are bringing this country down. And they are on both sides of the aisle.
It is guys like you who see things like if it isn't Bush's way then it has to be partisan that are bringing down the house.

Perot definitely helped Clinton. As far as a 'remote chance'? Of course he still would have had a chance. It's just a lot harder to narrow that one down as specifically as the Nader deal.

Whatever the case, i'm not whining about it or complaining about 3rd party candidates like you and Pengy seem to be saying.

Yes, if he took his own state, he would have won. The conversation turned towards Nader and hence my take on Naders effect on that election.

Dawg, what third party are you voting for? Nader? The problem with the third parties is that there are too many of them and they are not organized. If they can't organize a campaign then how do you think they could possibly govern the country. In 4 years maybe we will have a true third and fourth party. I hope so.

My in-laws are right wingers tried and true. They told me my vote for Ron Paul was a vote for Obama.

I hate this logic.

1. If McCain can't carry TN as a Rep, then he has no shot of winning the election.
2. I'm pretty sure who ever loses will use the 3rd party candidate as one of the reasons
3. I think someone mentioned polls said that Nader voters heavily favored Gore. We all know how accurate exit polls are. Just ask Kerry.
4. C'mon, Wednesday!!! :)

I'm not saying I agree with that logic, but the effect is not imagined.

Also, if you don't believe exit polls then just look at Naders stance on whatever issue and use common sense as to who he would pull votes from.

I wrote in Ron Paul.

IMO (I have used that a lot in this thread), the reason why there is not a viable third party is two-fold.

1. The two party system we have chokes out any efforts with funding that can't be matched.
2. Using fear against voters to keep their own parties in all major offices.

Reps and Dems want the exact same thing: bigger government. They want different styles of bigger government, but it's bigger nonetheless. It's all about an increasing amount of power, decisions, and money flowing through the federal government.

The fear aspect is evidenced by the vast majority of people on this forum knowing that both McCain and Obama are jokes, but they still will vote for one of the two. I think this is an accurate representation of most of the people in our country. Outside of the left/right-wingers, neither of these candidates make a whole lot of sense.

Exactly. Have a hard time understanding how anyone thinks that a Republican or a conservative could have pulled the lever for Ralphie.....

The first sign that you might need a break is when skullfuk starts rubbing off on you.

Well, at least I know it's not someone logging in under your password today :mj07:

I don't hate third party candidates, nor do I think you do.

I can't imagine the day I vote for one and feel like it's making a difference. Clearly every year one candidate is affected more than the other by write-ins, I just don't think that alone is enough to swing an entire election.
