LEADING OFF: Pollock ponders surgery, Gonzales starts fast
April 30, 2019
By The Associated Press

A look at what's happening around the majors today:

POLLOCK'S PROBLEM

The Los Angeles Dodgers say center fielder A.J. Pollock might need surgery because of an infection in his surgically repaired right elbow. The NL champions put the former All-Star and Gold Glove winner on the injured list before Tuesday night's game in San Francisco.

The 31-year-old Pollock signed a $55 million, four-year contract with the Dodgers in the offseason. He is hitting .223 with two home runs and 14 RBIs in 28 games.

SHARP START

Mariners lefty Marco Gonzales is 5-0 with a 2.80 ERA after seven starts. In his last outing, he threw seven shutout innings and struck out nine without a walk to beat Texas.

Gonzales and Seattle will host Jon Lester (1-1, 2.37) and the Chicago Cubs.

CHECK THEM

Robinson Cano has missed two straight starts for the Mets because of a swollen left hand. The All-Star second baseman was hit by a pitch from Milwaukee's Gio Gonzalez on Sunday. ... Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli exited Tuesday night's game at Texas after being hit on his left wrist by a pitch. He initially stayed in after being struck by Adrian Sampson, but left a batter later.

DOUBLING UP

A pair of doubleheaders dot the schedule after rainouts in Kansas City and Chicago. Both twinbills are of the traditional variety - no splits now.

Tampa Bay, with the best record in the majors, will play two against the Royals beginning shortly after noon at Kauffman Stadium.

Before Tuesday's washout, the Rays had planned to send AL Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell to the mound in his second start since hurting his toe in a freak accident at home.

The Orioles and White Sox will begin their long day a few hours later. Chicago has won four in a row and Baltimore has lost four straight.

May Pitchers Report
May 1, 2019
By Marc Lawrence

The call to the post in the month of May signals the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. For baseball purists, May is simply the 2nd full month of the season as we head toward the sweltering days of summer. And for die-hard baseball fans that enjoy handicapping America?s pastime, it also signals the arrival of our annual May Good Month/Bad Month pitchers report.

Listed below are hurlers that have enjoyed a two-to-one or better success ratio in team-starts over the course of the last three seasons during the month of May. On the flip side, we've also listed pitchers that struggle in May, winning 33% percent or less of their team-start efforts. To qualify pitchers must have made a minimum of 10 starts, with at least one start each May over the last three years. And for your convenience alongside each record, we break down each pitcher?s greatest success or greatest failure rate either home (H) or away (A) within his good or bad month.

Note: * designates a categorical repeat appearance by this pitcher, maintaining status quo from last season?s May list.

GOOD MONTH PITCHERS

*Greinke, Zack - 10-5 (7-2 H)

The 35-year old right-hander does not have the same zip on the fastball, but he does not walk hitters, allows less than a hit an inning and does not beat himself. The beat goes on for Greinke.

Happ, J.A. - 8-4 (5-2 H)

After a slow start with Yankees this season, Happ started heading back to career norms in his few starts in April. However, there is something not everyone realizes: he's had five straight years of 10+ wins.

*Kershaw, Clayton - 11-3 (5-1 A)

Like the sun rising in the east and setting in the west, Kershaw has been the best pitcher in baseball for a decade. A few recent injuries have some folks wanting to anoint others and the fact is he doesn't throw mid-90's anymore and he gives up a few more home runs. Still, the lefty is still among the best in the sport.

Miley, Wade - 8-4 (5-2 A)

Miley was basically a below average pitcher for the majority of his career. At 30-years old and becoming increasingly ineffective, Miley began learning to throw a 'cutter' in his bullpen work, seeing if it was worth a try and what do you, it worked. The lefthander has gone from a long reliever on bad teams to a solid back of the rotation starter on playoff contenders like Houston this year for example. Kudos to him.

*Price, David - 9-3 (5-0 H)

The Boston port-sider has made the transition from power pitcher to complete pitcher. With a quality of assortment of off-speed pitches, this has made his fastball appear quicker and he still has excellent movement on tosses down in the zone.

Rodriguez, Eduardo - 10-2 (6-1 A)

The Red Sox have always loved Rodriguez ability if not his results. After another typical slow start, the left-hander was sharper at the end of the month and he gave credit to teammate second baseman Dustin Pedroia for showing him a new grip for his curveball that gave him more downward movement. Let's see if that continues.

*Sale, Chris - 12-6 (6-3 A)

Chris Sale starts May 0-5 with an unthinkable 6.30 ERA. Sale's career ERA is below 3.00 and his velocity is down dramatically, 4 to 6 MPH on the heater, and nobody understands why other than possibly the postseason innings from last fall. A developing story for certain.

Scherzer, Max - 11-5 (6-2 H)

At 1-3 with an ERA of 4.12, are we seeing Scherzer starting to show the signs of age creeping up on him at 34? It's too early to say for sure but opposing batters are hitting .257 against Mad Max versus .223 - which is career number. Maybe Scherzer needs a little more time to settle in for 2019.

Severino, Luis - 11-5 (7-3 H)

On the 60-day IL and probably won't even start throwing until June.

Strasburg, Stephen - 15-1 (8-0 A)

Normally a fast starter, Strasburg stumbled at the start with an ERA of 5.56 after four outings. However, he must have sensed May was coming and allowed two runs in two starts over 15 innings, fanning 20, walking three, on just four hits. The right-hander is just money in May.

Wainwright, Adam - 10-2 (6-1 H)

The former St. Louis ace is not the same hurler at 37, yet, he's capable for five to six good innings for three to four starts out of every five made. To this point of the season, Wainwright has been much tougher in right-hand batters compared to lefty's (.223 vs .300 BA)

BAD MONTH PITCHERS

Urena, Jose - 3-9 (1-5 H)

Urena is pitching as poorly as the team he's on in Miami with a 1-4 record and a 5.08 ERA. He's permitted 43 hits on only 33.2 innings and opposing batters are knocking him around for a .300 BA and .353 OBP. Ouch!

Hot & Not Report - Sides
April 29, 2019
By YouWager.eu

Who's Hot and Who's Not - MLB Sides
Week of April 29th

The MLB season is about a month long now, as teams all across the league are approaching the 30-game mark. Fans and bettors have a much better understanding of the identities these teams are trying to forge in 2019, and while there have still been some surprises on both the high (San Diego) and low (Boston) end of things in the early standings, there is still plenty of time for those teams to regress in either direction.

A full month's worth of data also means that this year's numbers should be weighed incrementally more in your projections relative to preseason prognostications, and in a data-driven sport like MLB, more data can end up being your friend.

It still doesn't hurt to ride the hot hand at times - or look for value in going the other way of streaks ? as everyone knows that every year in baseball we see teams go on prolonged runs and/or slumps, and sometimes any little situational edge you can grasp on to can prove beneficial to your bankroll.

With that in mind, here are a few situational roles where certain MLB teams have been riding high or very low with their results, with home cooking being the common denominator.

Odds per - YouWager.eu

Who's Hot

AL West teams at home ? 45-31 SU; +17.45 units

If you've followed the simple idea of backing whichever AL West team ? LA Angels, Houston, Seattle, Oakland, Texas ? that's at home on a given night, you'd find yourself 14 games over the .500 mark entering Monday's play, and up about 17.5 units if you are risking the same amount on underdogs as you are trying to win on favorites. That's quite a haul, especially when you consider that two of those games ? both lost by the designated home team Oakland ? were played in Japan as well. You would eliminate another two losses there if only playing games that were stateside, and the profit would be close to 20 units.

Bettors can thank the Texas Rangers for the big haul as they are 10-4 SU at home so far for +11 units. The Rangers have used a consistent offensive attack to pile up the home victories despite a starting rotation that was often ridiculed harshly coming into the season. You don't hear much chatter about that rotation being ?one of the worst in baseball? anymore, and it just goes to show you how fickle and day-to-day the majority of bettors can be. That rotation is still sub-par overall though, and Texas is probably a great candidate to become a fade at home as they'll likely regress some, but as the second biggest money earner in the MLB market to date, bettors that have been willing to jump on the Rangers at home this year have built their baseball bankrolls a nice cushion for the rest of the year.

Seattle is actually the 3rd best money-earner overall in MLB (+6.74 units), but they are also the only one of these five AL West teams that's got a losing record SU and in terms of money at home. Seattle's 7-9 SU run on their own field has equated to a loss of 0.73 units in the market, as they Mariners have done all their big cashing on the road. But similar to Texas, I would expect Seattle's win rate at home to rise up and their rate on the road to drop over the next month or so. How that relates to value in backing the Mariners we shall see, but after a quick two-game home set with the Cubs starting on Tuesday, it's another extremely tough 10-game road trip for Seattle (Cleveland, Yankees, Boston) where we probably do end up seeing that road record slip somewhat.

The best team in the AL West at home outside of Texas has been the team that shares a State with the Rangers. Houston's 10-3 SU record at home has only produced about 5.5 units of profit so far as they are often quite chalky home favorites, but you can't complain about any number of units that have a positive sign beside them.

Houston does have the majority of their games at home over the next month, and with teams like Texas, Kansas City, and the Chicago White Sox on tap in those games, you'd better be willing and prepared to lay some chalky numbers on the Astros if you are hoping they continue this run at home. Houston would be the team I'd be least concerned about in terms of a big slip downwards to approach the .500 mark of any of the AL West teams, but picking your spots when lines are up there can be just as good.

The last two AL West teams are Oakland (10-8 SU @ home for +1 unit) and LA Angels (8-7 SU @ home for +0.6 units) and they are two squads that remain good candidates to protect their home park as often as teams competing to be around .500 can expect. The Angels got hot early on their own diamond before cooling off lately, and Oakland's record is a little skewed as it was them who 'hosted' those games in Japan.

But to have a whole division be such a good bet in such a generic condition like just simply being at home, has been a pleasant surprise to bettors who've gotten behind one, most, or all of these AL West teams in that role.

Odds per - YouWager.eu

Who's Not

AL East teams at home ? 32-39 SU; -27.5 units

While seeing four of five AL West teams be profitable at home through a month of the season has been a pleasant surprise, to see all five AL East teams be such a bad bet at home has been shocking. But that's how high-priced home favorite lines cam get you in money line sports like MLB and you don't have to turn anywhere but the AL East division to see that playing out in real time.

In terms of the actual SU record, both Tampa and the New York Yankees actually have winning records at home (9-7 and 8-7 respectively), but Tampa's still down a full unit in the market in that role, and the Yankees and their ?Yankees tax? - in regards to inflated home prices ? have lost bettors nearly 8.6 units at home. Obviously, Yankees fans will have the injury-excuse at the ready when you bring up the early season struggles they went through, but chances are this could end up being the norm for New York this year. They could finish 20 games over .500 at home and still have a tough time turning a profitable season in the betting market.

The same can be said for this Boston Red Sox team who have just been marred in this 'championship hangover' for too long. The 5-7 SU record at home doesn't look too horrible, and to have the defending champs start the year on an 11-game road trip did them no favors, but that difference of just two losses in the W/L column has translated to -9 units overall in the market. They are another big market, highly popular team that oddsmakers have no quarrels about inflating the line every shade they can get away with, as even with a huge turnaround the rest of the way, Boston's going to have a tough time turning a profit at home this season.

The remaining teams in this division are Baltimore (3-10 SU, -6.3 units) and Toronto (7-8 SU, -2.5 units) as both franchises are in the tear down stages of what should presumably be rebuilds within the organization. But those numbers are still coming after a team like the Jays just swept Oakland over the weekend to add three wins and 3+ units to that tally. Things could even look that much worse for these AL East teams at home when you think about it.

Going forward, I would expect Boston and New York to start piling up home wins as the weather warms up (and they get healthy), although prices in the market will never be cheap on them so keep that in mind as well. Given both the preseason prognostications and the first month of play, it's probably the Tampa Bay Rays who end 2019 as the best team to back at home from this division, as they'll be the ones that should consistently provide the best value.

Hot & Not Report - Totals
April 29, 2019
By YouWager.eu

Who's Hot and Who's Not - MLB Totals
Week of April 29th

The first month of MLB data is in the books, and for those of you that prefer tracking how sides results have gone done you can go here (insert link here), but this piece is all about some totals runs teams have gotten on through the first 25+ games.

And just like the home/road scenarios that were brought up in that piece on the sides, there are a handful of teams that make sure their offense is rolling based on if it was their own bed or not they slept in the night before.

Odds per - YouWager.eu

Who's Hot

Playing 'Over' the total when projected bottom-feeders in Baltimore, Kansas City are at home; 22-5 O/U combined

You won't get very many convincing arguments from bettors who don't believe Baltimore or Kansas City will end up in the basement of their respective divisions, and had Miami's 9-6 O/U record at home been just a little better, they'd be classified in this group as well. For now it's just an honorary mention for the Marlins, but compared to their road numbers (2-10 O/U), they aren't a bad 'over' play on their own field.

But it's Baltimore (11-2 O/U) and Kansas City (11-3 O/U) that take the cake in this regard, as they've at least decided that if they aren't going to put a competitive team out on the field each night, they'll at least give their home fans some entertainment value in seeing runs get scored.

Most of these 'overs' have come in losing causes for the Orioles and Royals (combined 9-19 SU home record), as neither of these teams are strangers to seeing a crooked number get put up on them. Chances are that will continue quite a bit for Baltimore and KC this year, and with the youth on those respective teams generally being more comfortable at home to begin with, relying on the O's and Royals to pull their own weight in terms of an 'over' getting there isn't so excruciating to think about.

Considering that last year we had the best two teams for 'overs' at home be Texas (46-31-4 O/U) and San Diego (44-32-2 O/U), two teams that finished last in their respective divisions, tracking the high side of totals when the Orioles and Royals are at home may be in your bankroll's best interest.

Odds per - YouWager.eu

Who's Not

Playing 'under' the total when either New York team is away from the Big Apple; 22-5 O/U in road games for Mets and Yankees

While the bottom-feeders may be ones you want to look out for 'over' plays at home, it's the two teams from New York you want to find on the road if 'overs' are your thing. Combined, they've got the same O/U record on the road ? 22-5 O/U as the Orioles/Royals do at home, and with all the slugging power both teams have preferred to build their roster around, all it takes is a bloop and blast in hostile territory for these Yankees/Mets totals to get surpassed.

To see the Yankees post a 11-2 O/U on the road may be the most impressive given all the injuries they've had, but at the same time, the lack of ?featured stars? on a lineup card can cause the opposing pitcher to relax mentally somewhat. Guys start to get too cute with their pitches and are more inclined to test the Yankees young guys with pitches right down the chute, and to the Yankees credit ? both the young players and the front office who put them in pinstripes ? they are making these pitchers pay for their carelessness. It's not like the Yankees pitching staff has been lights out either, and that always helps an 'over' play.

The Mets have been more well-rounded in terms of how they score runs, but a large part of their 'overs' have come because of the low totals (7's and 8's) they get on a regular basis because of the brand name stars they've got in their rotation.

Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard lead the way in that regard, and asking these guys to be always on top of their game on the road is tough. Neither guy would tell you they've yet to really pitch up to their standards this year in general, as deGrom's road starts have gone 2-1 O/U, while Syndergaard is a perfect 3-0 O/U away from home.

Those results for those two guys may regress a bit with a few 'unders' in store soon, but the Mets aren't just a team with a few great pitchers this year, and the offense ranks 9th in MLB in team average, and they aren't afraid to have the backs of those highly paid starters when things go sour for an afternoon.

STREAKING AND SLUMPING STARTERS

STREAKING

Caleb Smith, Miami Marlins (2-0, 2.17 ERA, $230): On a day where Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer and Corey Kluber among others are starting, our streaking starter is Miami?s Caleb Smith.

The 27-year-old left-hander has been outstanding this season and he?s been nearly unhittable over his last three starts, where he has a 1.00 ERA and a 0.72 WHIP, while limiting opponents to a .197 on base percentage. Smith will look to keep it rolling when Cleveland comes to town. The Marlins are currently +110 home dogs with a t total of 6.5.

SLUMPING

Jacob deGrom, New York Mets (2-3, 4.85 ERA, $-363): Has it really come to this? Our favorite son, the slumping starter? While we still have faith deGrom will bounce back, he is certainly working through a rough patch right now. The defending Cy Young Award winner has a 9.69 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP in over his past three starts.

While we are not ready to declare the death of deGrom Day just yet, (it is still 25-7 in his last 32 starts) we might have to be a little more selective going forward. Despite his struggles, deGrom and the Mets are -190 home faves today against the Reds with a total of 6.5. (The first five inning total is 3.5).

3 STRIKES

OVER UMPIRE

Over bettors have been licking their chops when they see when Paul Emmel is calling balls and strikes. The Over is a perfect 6-0 in the games he has been behind home plate this season and is 11-1 in his last 12 games dating back to last season. Emmel has a low 62.2 percent strike rate this season and has seen an average of 11.2 runs scored per game. He?ll be behind home plate in Arizona this afternoon when the Diamondbacks host the Yankees. The total is currently 8.

REVENGE ON HIS MIND

Defending Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell, has his 2019 campaign off to another solid start, pitching to a 2.54 ERA and an 0.92 WHIP. But he?ll have revenge on his mind when he takes the mound today as he goes against a Royals team that got the better of him his last time out. Kansas City got to Snell for three runs on five hits in 3.1 innings pitched back on April 24. Snell is a hefty -225 road favorite for today?s matchup. With the Royals countering with Glen Sparkman consider the Rays on the runline here.

BRINGING OUT THE BEST IN HIM

When it comes to the Dodgers-Giants rivalry, it?s L.A. who has had more of the success of late, but that has never stopped Madison Bumgarner from showing up to these games. He loves facing the Dodgers. Especially at Dodger Stadium. Bumgarner has a 2.36 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP in 20 starts there over the course of his career. Today, Bumgarner and the Giants are +125 home dogs with a total of 7, going up against the Dodgers? Hyun-Jin Ryu.

Marte, Kelly lead D-backs over Yankees 3-2 for 2-game sweep
May 1, 2019
By The Associated Press

MIAMI (AP) Cleveland ace Corey Kluber broke his right forearm when he was hit by a line drive during the Indians' 4-2 loss to the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night.

Kluber (2-3) was struck by Brian Anderson's comebacker in the fifth inning. The Indians said he will be re-evaluated in Cleveland on Thursday.

The two-time American League Cy Young Award winner allowed eight hits and three runs in 4 2/3 innings, which left his ERA at 5.80.

Caleb Smith (3-0) struck out eight in seven innings, helping Miami stop a four-game slide. He allowed one run on Roberto Perez's third homer in the third inning.

Cleveland's Carlos Santana homered in the ninth off Sergio Romo, who regrouped to earn his fifth save.

DIAMONDBACKS 3, YANKEES 2

PHOENIX (AP) - Ketel Marte homered, Merrill Kelly won his first start against New York and Arizona swept a two-game series.

The Yankees dropped to 0-5 this year against teams that currently have winning records and is 17-8 against clubs that started the day under .500.

Kelly (3-2) allowed one run and five hits in 5 1/3 innings as Arizona won for the seventh time in nine games. Greg Holland pitched around Cameron Maybin's one-out walk in the ninth to remain perfect in seven save chances.

Masahiro Tanaka (2-3) allowed three runs and five hits in four innings, which matched his season low.

CUBS 11, MARINERS 0

SEATTLE (AP) - Jon Lester and two relievers combined on a one-hitter, Javier Baez homered and doubled during a six-run second inning, and Chicago beat Seattle for its 13th win in 17 games.

The Cubs handed Seattle starter Marco Gonzales his first loss of the season, thanks to the big second inning when 12 batters came to the plate. Gonzales (5-1) failed to make it out of the inning after giving up five hits and walking two.

Lester (2-1) cruised after the early run support, allowing one hit in seven innings.

TWINS 6, ASTROS 2

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Martin Perez pitched eight scoreless innings in his longest start in two seasons, and Jonathan Schoop hit a towering two-run homer to help Minnesota beat Houston.

Collin McHugh (3-3) hit Mitch Garver with a pitch to start the third, and Schoop made him pay with his drive into the third deck above left field.

RED SOX 7, ATHLETICS 3

BOSTON (AP) - Mitch Moreland homered and drove in another run on a sacrifice fly after a lucky hop off the second base bag moved the runners along as Boston completed a three-game sweep.

Boston was seven games under .500 and 7+ games out of first place on April 16. The Red Sox have won eight of 12 since.

Marcus Walden (4-0) relieved Red Sox starter Hector Velazquez after two innings and pitched three scoreless innings, striking out three and allowing one hit.

Felipe Vazquez got his eighth save by striking out Shin-Soo Choo and pinch-hitter Hunter Pence with the potential tying run at second in the ninth.

Aaron Nola pitched 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball, helping the Phillies earn a split of the two-game series. The ace right-hander allowed seven hits and struck out six.

Philadelphia tagged Detroit's bullpen for six runs in two innings.

After Ronny Rodriguez gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead in the seventh with an RBI single off Seranthony Dominguez (2-0), the Phillies answered in the bottom half. J.T. Realmuto hit a one-out double to right off Buck Farmer (1-2) and Sean Rodriguez was hit by a pitch on his hand. Daniel Stumpf entered and Cesar Hernandez singled to load the bases.

In the opener, Adalberto Mondesi hit a two-run homer in a three-run first inning for Kansas City, and Jacob Junis (3-2) and the bullpen held on.

Thursday?s 6-pack

Odds to win the Wells Fargo PGA event this week:

6-1: Rory McIlroy

10-1: Jason Day

12-1: Justin Rose, Rickie Fowler

18-1: Hideki Matsuyama, Tony Finau

20-1: Webb Simpson

22-1: Sergio Garcia

Quote of the Day
?I?ve never learned anything while I was talking.?
Larry King

Thursday?s quiz
In the basketball movie Hoosiers, what was the name of the high school where Gene Hackman coached?

Wednesday?s quiz
Celtics? general manager Danny Ainge holds the Toronto Blue Jays? franchise record for youngest player to hit a home run.

Tuesday?s quiz
Spurs, Pacers, Nets, Nuggets came to the NBA when the ABA folded in 1976.

**********************

Thursday?s List of 13: Nobody asked me, but??

13) Cleveland Browns haven?t made the NFL playoffs since 2002; they?re -$120 to make the playoffs this season, with a rookie head coach and a 2nd-year QB. That would take a pretty big leap of faith on my part, to wager on the Browns to make the 2019 playoffs.

12) Rookie QB Dwayne Haskins will wear number 7 with the Redskins, the first person to do that since Joe Theismann retired 34 years ago.

11) Royals swept a doubleheader from Tampa Bay Wednesday, 3-2/8-2; Whit Merrrifield led off bottom of the 1st inning in both games with a double. He is the first player in major leagues to do this since Scott Podsednik, in 2005 for the White Sox.

10) Part of why the Miami Marlins are terrible:
? Chris Paddack was traded for Fernando Rodney
? Domingo Germ?n was traded for Martin Prado
? Luis Castillo was traded for Dan Straily

They traded three really good young pitchers for older, marginal players. Then they traded Yelich, Ozuna, Stanton and didn?t get much of a return for them. Astoundingly inept.

9) Morning line favorite Omaha Beach has been scratched from the Kentucky Derby with a trapped epiglottis, which apparently is a breathing problem. Game Winner (4-1) now appears to the favorite for Saturday?s race.

8) Chicago Bears hired Brad Childress as senior offensive assistant, which helps explain why he quit as head coach of the AAF team in Atlanta, which turned out to be a good move by him, since the league folded before their first season ended.

7) Baseball injuries:
? Mets put P Jeurys Familia (shoulder) on the IL.
? Indians will put P Corey Kluber (forearm) on IL.

6) Game 2 of Rockets-Warriors was Tuesday, Game 3 isn?t till Saturday; chance for coaches to make whatever adjustments need to be made. Chance for James Harden?s eye to heal, and for Steph Curry?s left hand to feel a little better- he dislocated a finger in Tuesday?s game.

5) ESPN the Magazine is shutting down this fall; they tried very hard to be different, and they were different, but in a bad way. Too many articles on stuff not many people care about.

4) College basketball transfer portal:
? Former Vandy/Notre Dame F Matt Ryan is transferring to Chattanooga. He is a career 36.5% shooter on the arc who shot only 32.8% for Vandy LY.
? Georgia poaches grad transfer Donnell Gresham from Northeastern.

3) San Diego Padres finished April with a 17-13 record, first time since 2010 that they finished the first month of the season with a winning record.

2) Indians? ace Corey Kluber got hit by a line drive last night, broke his right forearm and is out for a long time, a huge blow to Cleveland?s chances this season.

1) This from Ryan Spaeder:

In 2005, Braves? C Brian McCann hit a sac fly against Paul Quantrill; Dave Roberts (now the Dodgers? manager) caught the fly ball for San Diego.

Tuesday night, 5,001 days later, McCann flew out against Cal Quantrill, Paul?s son. also against the Padres.
