STREAKING AND SLUMPING STARTERS

STREAKING

Charlie Morton, Tampa Bay Rays (6-0, 2.54 ERA, $346):
Morton has been streaking for most of his first year in Tampa, but his last seven starts have been particularly good. Morton has a 1.99 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP while limiting opponents to a .192 batting average over that stretch. Morton and the Rays will look to keep rolling when they visit the Tigers tonight. Tampa Bay is currently a big -196 road fave with a total of 9.

SLUMPING

Joe Musgrove, Pittsburgh Pirates (3-6, 4.57 ERA, $-311):
Musgrove?s season is becoming more and more inconsistent the farther we get into it. He started the season on fire, followed by a brief slump, but looks to be slumping once again. Musgrove has pitched to a 7.27 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP over his last three starts and maybe the most surprising thing about his troubles is that they have mostly come at home. Musgrove and the Pirates will hope to turn that trend around when they host the Braves tonight. Pittsburgh is currently a slight +112 home dog with a total sitting at 9.5.

3 STRIKES

FIRST FROM WORST

Baltimore Orioles bettors haven?t had much to cheer for in 2019, with the club sunk at the bottom of the American League East and -9.31 units in the hole to start June. However, in recent outings, the Orioles have at least come out swinging ? literally.

Baltimore has scored a total of 16 first-inning runs over their last nine games, plating at least one run in the opening frame in six of those contests, and averages 0.73 first-inning tallies on the season. It scored four runs in the first inning of Tuesday?s 12-11 slugfest with the Texas Rangers and has 11 total runs in the first stanza over its last four. The first-inning Over/Under is 0.5 for Wednesday?s game in Arlington.

FISH FLOUNDER

The Florida Marlins turned heads Tuesday, blasting the Milwaukee Brewers 16-0. The Fish have scored 34 total runs over their last three outings ? a sudden and surprising uptick for a club averaging only 3.53 runs per contests (30th).

Like all things in the universe, this offensive outburst will balance out. Florida has seen peaks and valleys in its offense over the past season and a half. It has scored double figures in eight games over the past two seasons and watched its production drop to an average of 2.4 runs in the following outing. Those games also went 1-7 Over/Under. Today?s total in Milwaukee is set at nine runs.

DEATH OF A SALESMAN?

Boston Red Sox ?Ace?? Chris Sale has been a money pit in his dozen starts this season, going just 1-7 and watching BoSox bettors burn for -13.14 units in those appearances. Sale has a 4.35 ERA on the year and can?t take all the blame, with Boston providing just 2.92 runs of support in his starts. That hasn?t changed the approach of oddsmakers, who have Sale and the Sox priced at -250 at Kansas City this evening.

While Sale hasn?t been a great bet, he remains an elite strikeout artist. On the season, the lefty has 98 Ks including a total of 25 in his last three outings and has more than eight strikeouts in six of his last eight starts. Kansas City is hitting just .230 versus southpaws (27th) with 155 collective strikeouts against lefties. Books have Sale?s strikeout Over/Under at 8.5.

Morton pushes unbeaten streak to 20 starts, Rays beat Tigers
June 5, 2019
By The Associated Press

DETROIT (AP) Charlie Morton allowed five hits in seven innings, extending his unbeaten streak to 20 starts and leading the Tampa Bay Rays to a 4-0 win over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night.

Morton (7-0) hasn't lost since Aug. 11, and only Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers, at 21 starts, has a longer active unbeaten streak. Morton struck out eight with no walks and needed just 83 pitches to complete seven innings.

Austin Meadows tripled and scored on a throwing error in the third to open the scoring. Tampa Bay scored two more runs in the fifth and snapped its four-game losing streak.

Spencer Turnbull (3-5) allowed three runs in five innings.

METS 7, GIANTS 0

NEW YORK (AP) - Jason Vargas pitched his first shutout in two years, Amed Rosario hit a three-run homer and New York won despite losing Robinson Cano hours after his return from the injured list.

Michael Conforto and Adeiny Hechavarria each had a solo homer for the Mets, who ended a three-game skid with their second win in seven games.

Cano played for the first time since straining his left quadriceps May 22 but was pulled at the start of the fifth inning with tightness in the muscle. He favored the leg running to first base on a rally-killing double play in the third.

Vargas (2-3) has allowed one run or fewer in seven of his past eight starts. The 36-year-old lefty struck out a season-best eight, allowed five hits and a walk, and threw 117 pitches.

Tyler Beede (0-2) allowed six runs (five earned) in five innings for the Giants, who had won three straight.

DIAMONDBACKS 3, DODGERS 2, 11 INNINGS

PHOENIX (AP) - Jarrod Dyson hit a tying double in the eighth inning with the help of Chase Field's new artificial turf, David Peralta had a winning single in the 11th, and Arizona avoided a three-game sweep.

The two-time defending NL champion Dodgers entered with a season-high, seven-game winning streak and began the day 10 1/2 games ahead of second-place Colorado in the NL West and 13 games in front of the Diamondbacks. The Dodgers, an NL-best 43-20, lost for just the second time in 13 games.

Eduardo Escobar tripled off Scott Alexander (3-2) leading off the 11th, Ketel Marte was intentionally walked, and Peralta lined his first pitch to right.

Zack Godley (2-4) pitched a perfect 11th for the Diamondbacks, who were outhit 7-5.

PHILLIES 7, PADRES 5

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Adam Haseley drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning with his first big league hit, and Philadelphia rallied from a three-run deficit.

The 23-year-old Haseley made his major league debut Tuesday as the center fielder for the NL East-leading Phillies, who are scrambling to reconfigure their outfield.

Craig Stammen (4-2) walked Scott Kingery with two outs in the eighth, and Haseley sliced a sinker for an opposite-field double down the left-field line. Pinch-hitter Andrew Knapp followed with an RBI single for Philadelphia, which won its second straight after a season-high five-game losing streak.

Jay Bruce hit a solo homer in the fourth, his third with the Phillies and 17th this season.

Juan Nicasio (1-2) retired Wil Myers on a comebacker that ended the seventh. Neris got five outs for his 12th save in 14 chances.

NATIONALS 6, WHITE SOX 4

WASHINGTON (AP) - Trea Turner homered off Alex Colome in the ninth inning, and Washington won its season-high fourth straight.

The Nationals led 4-1 in the eighth before another meltdown by a bullpen that has a 6.68 ERA - no other team is above 6.00.

Leury Garcia singled with one out in the eighth off Kyle Barraclough, and Jose Abreu hit his 16th homer one out later. Wander Suero relieved and Welington Castillo homered on his first pitch.

Washington's 12th blown save tied Pittsburgh for second-most behind the New York Mets' 14.

Colome (2-1) entered in the bottom of the ninth and walked Brian Dozier on four pitches. He fell behind Turner 2-0, and Turner drove a high full-count fastball into the left-field bullpen for his third game-ending home run, his second this season.

Sean Doolittle (4-1) pitched out of two-on, one-out trouble in the ninth, striking out Garcia and Moncada.

MARLINS 8, BREWERS 3

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Brian Anderson hit his first career grand slam and Miami spoiled Jimmy Nelson's return to the major leagues.

Starlin Castro and Bryan Holaday each drove in two runs as the surging Marlins earned their fourth straight victory. Sandy Alcantara (3-5) pitched seven crisp innings in his first win since he tossed a two-hitter in a 3-0 victory over the New York Mets on May 19.

Nelson - out since Sept. 8, 2017, when he injured his pitching shoulder diving back to first after rounding the base on a single - lasted just three innings. He was charged with five runs and four hits. He struck out two and walked three.

The Marlins, who have won 13 of 18 overall, went ahead to stay in the third on Anderson's homer.

BLUE JAYS 11, YANKEES 7

TORONTO (AP) - Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a go-ahead, three-run homer off Zack Britton in a five-run eighth inning, Randal Grichuk had a pair of homers and Toronto sent New York to its first three-game losing streak since early April.

Toronto trailed 7-4 in the seventh but closed against Jonathan Holder on a two-run, two-out double by Teoscar Hernandez.

Brandon Drury and Grichuk combined for back-to-back homers against Luis Cessa in the eighth. New York has lost the first two games of a three-game set, ending a streak of nine consecutive series wins. New York has not won 10 series in a row since 1954.

Guerrero's home run off on a sinker by Britton (2-1) was the seventh for the 20-year-old, who debuted April 26.

Sam Gaviglio (4-1) pitched two hitless innings, and the Blue Jays won three straight home games for the first time this season.

RED SOX 8, ROYALS 0

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Chris Sale tossed a three-hitter for his third career shutout, and Jackie Bradley Jr. and Rafael Devers drove in three runs apiece to lead Boston.

Sale's dominant performance was summed up by the eighth inning, when the seven-time All-Star struck out the side on nine pitches - his second immaculate inning of the year. Sale (2-7) has rebounded from a dismal April to put together a series of solid starts. He finished with 12 strikeouts and no walks, his seventh double-digit strikeout game of the season.

Bradley hit a three-run double during a four-run fifth that broke open the game, and Devers tacked on his ninth homer after a pair of RBIs earlier in the night.

Jakob Junis (4-6) gave up six runs and eight hits with three walks over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out five.

CUBS, 9, ROCKIES 8

CHICAGO (AP) - David Bote drove in a career-high seven runs to lead Chicago.

Bote had four hits, including a three-run homer and bases-clearing double to hand the Rockies a second straight loss after ending their season-high eight-game winning streak Tuesday.

His homer in the fifth staked Chicago and Yu Darvish to a 3-0 lead. Bote keyed a five-run rally in the sixth with his double to the left field corner that put Chicago up 8-3. He singled in a needed insurance run with two outs in the eighth to make it 9-7 after Colorado had trimmed the Cubs' lead to a run.

Nolan Arenado drove in a run with a single in sixth to extend his hitting streak to 15 games.

Brandon Kintzler (2-0), the second of six Chicago relievers, got the final two outs of the sixth for the win. Steve Cishek allowed a run in the ninth before earning his sixth save in eight chances.

German Marquez (6-3) retired 12 of the Cubs first 14 batters, but yielded eight runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.

PIRATES 7, BRAVES 4

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Joe Musgrove gave Pittsburgh's beleaguered bullpen a welcome break, pitching into the ninth inning for the first time in his career as the Pirates beat Atlanta in a game delayed more than two hours by rain.

Musgrove (4-6) bounced back from a pair of bumpy starts to overwhelm the Braves and help Pittsburgh end a three-game skid. The right-hander retired 14 straight and struck out six without issuing a walk.

He took the mound in the ninth looking for his first complete game, but was pulled for closer Felipe Vazquez after giving up back-to-back home runs to Ronald Acuna Jr. and Dansby Swanson. Vazquez allowed an RBI double to Nick Markakis but avoided major damage as the Pirates won for just the fifth time in 16 games.

Elias Diaz hit his first home run of the season for Pittsburgh. Colin Moran added his seventh for the Pirates, who touched Atlanta starter Kevin Gausman (2-5) for seven runs.

RANGERS 2, ORIOLES 1, 12 INNINGS

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Delino DeShields' single in the 12th inning, his fourth hit of the game, drove in pinch-runner Isiah Kiner-Falefa from second base to lift Texas.

DeShields singled off Paul Fry (0-3), who entered in the 11th. Kiner-Falefa ran for Asdrubal Cabrera, who led off the 12th with a single to left field. Kiner-Falefa advanced to second when Shin-Soo Choo was hit by a pitch and scored on DeShields' hit.

Jeffrey Springs (3-1) pitched the top of the 12th to get the win.

The Rangers were two outs from a 1-0 win when rookie Richie Martin homered to left field, his second of the season, to hand Shawn Kelley his third blown save of the season.

INDIANS 9, TWINS 7

CLEVELAND (AP) - Roberto Perez hit a solo homer in the seventh inning to drive in the go-ahead run and Cleveland Indians used seven relief pitchers after announcing scheduled starter Carlos Carrasco will be sidelined indefinitely because of a recently diagnosed blood condition.

Carrasco had been feeling lethargic for weeks and was placed on the 10-day injured list. The Indians gave no specifics on Carrasco's disorder, but said they expect him to return at some point this season.

Jordan Luplow's two-run homer in the seventh off Blake Parker (0-2) tied the game for Cleveland, which came back from a 5-1 deficit. Perez homered two batters later.

Francisco Lindor homered in the eighth - his third in two games. Luplow had an RBI double in the sixth while Jose Ramirez, mired in a season-long slump, drove in three runs.

The Indians, knowing they would need a deep bullpen to get through the game, began the night with 10 relievers. Nick Wittgren (3-0) allowed a run in the seventh while Brad Hand pitched the ninth for his 18th save in 18 chances.

MARINERS 14, ASTROS 1

SEATTLE (AP) - Edwin Encarnacion capped Seattle's seven-run sixth inning with a three-run homer, Mike Leake pitched his first complete game since 2015 and the Mariners stopped a four-game losing streak.

Seattle won for just the fourth time in 20 games thanks to five homers and an outstanding performance from Leake (5-6).

Houston's five-game winning streak was snapped with its most lopsided defeat since a 17-2 loss to Detroit in May 2013.

Domingo Santana and Tom Murphy also homered in the sixth. Mallex Smith had a key two-out, two-run single in the fifth off Houston starter Brad Peacock (5-3).

Leake's six-hitter on 119 pitches was the first complete game this season for Seattle and the fifth of his career, the last coming on Sept. 30, 2015, with San Francisco. Leake rebounded from a shaky first inning and struck out five. He allowed just four baserunners after the first.

Mac Williamson and Kyle Seager also homered for the Mariners in a five-run eighth.

? Washington State @ Washington (-9)

? Notre Dame (-5.5) @ Stanford

? Ohio State @ Michigan (-3.5)

? Florida State @ Florida (-14)

? Texas A&M @ LSU (-7.5)

Quotes of the Day
?The more screwed up they (Lakers) are, the happier I am. But I feel that way about every other franchise not in Dallas. We all go through it. Every franchise goes through cycles, and when your down cycle hits you, it?s never fun.?
Mark Cuban

Thursday?s quiz
Where did Klay Thompson play his college basketball?

Wednesday?s quiz
Last time the NBA Finals ended in a 4-0 sweep was last year, when the Warriors swept Cleveland; last time before that was 2007, when San Antonio swept the Cavaliers.

Tuesday?s quiz
San Antonio Spurs were the last Western Conference team other than Golden State to play in the NBA Finals; they beat Miami in the 2014 Finals.

**********************************

Thursday?s List of 13: Nobody asked me, but??

13) Starting today with something a little different; an unsolicited endorsement of a couple guys who own a financial advisement firm in this area; they?re very good at what they do.

I?ve known Chris/Dennis Fagan for a long time; they?re very smart people. In 2010, i gave them some money to invest for me, not a lot, but a decent amount for me.

Every month, I get a statement on how that money is doing, and right now, my account has more than double the amount that I gave them in 2010, so I?m going to post a link to their website here and if you need investment advice, they?re the guys to ask:

12) Raptors 123, Warriors 109? Key for Toronto is how the other four starters (minus Leonard) score; they were 28-53 from floor in this game, which is great production for them. Toronto has a 2-1 series lead.

11) Miami Marlins got an RBI from all nine hitters in the fifth inning Tuesday night, the first time that all nine lineup positions got an RBI in one inning since the Brooklyn Dodgers? 15-run first inning on May 21, 1952.

10) Marlins are only major league team that has used only five starting pitchers so far this season.

9) Watching some college baseball Sunday night, and it dawned on me that the Creighton Bluejays have nicer jerseys than the Toronto Blue Jays, which shouldn?t be.

8) Colorado Rockies have couple of promising starting pitchers coming up thru their farm system, but here?s the thing: If you?re talking fantasy baseball, do you really want a pitcher on your team from the Rockies? History tells us that you do not.

7) Baseball stuff:
? Cubs are signing closer Craig Kimbrel, pending a physical.
? Mets DFA?d OF Aaron Altherr, third team to dump him this year.
? Indians put P Carlos Carrasco on IL (non-baseball illness).

6) Interesting how different teams draft ballplayers; only three of the 40 players the Oakland A?s picked were high school players- they also picked a guy from both Harvard and Yale.

Red Sox drafted seven HS kids, Marlins took eight, Astros took only four.

5) Bruce Bochy won his 1,000th game as Giants? manager Tuesday night; he also won 951 games managing San Diego, and is a lock for the Hall of Fame.

4) Comedian Tracy Morgan got very upset Tuesday when a woman hit his $2M Bugatti with her Honda in Manhattan, which raises a question for me.

There is a car that costs $2M? Seriously? I love my Nissan Rogue; it cost $23,000. Oy.

3) Carolina Panthers? owner David Tepper has promised to build a ?world class? NFL practice facility for the Panthers in Rock Hill, SC; the Panthers play home games in Charlotte, NC, but when a $115M tax break was thrown Tepper?s way, he chose the Palmetto State for the team?s new practice facility. Go figure.

2) Starting this coming season, the 3-point line in college basketball will be 22?1?? away from the basket, a change from the 20?9″ that has been in place since 2008.

In Divisions 2-3, the change will take place in 2020-21, to account for the costs associated with moving the line on the courts.

1) A large echo showing up on radar in Southern California last night was actually a cloud of ladybugs about 80 miles by 80 miles in size flying at between 5,000-9,000 feet.

LEADING OFF: Health scare for Carrasco, Canó injured again
June 6, 2019
By The Associated Press

A look at what's happening around the majors Thursday:

HEALTH SCARE

Already missing two members of their rotation, the Cleveland Indians are going to be without starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco indefinitely because of a recently diagnosed blood condition. The team said Carrasco had been feeling lethargic for weeks, and he is taking a leave of absence to ''explore the optimal treatment and recovery options.'' The Indians gave no specifics on Carrasco's disorder and said any further details will be released at the discretion of him and his family. But they said in a statement they expect the right-hander back at some point this season.

The 32-year-old Carrasco had been scheduled to start Wednesday against Minnesota before he was placed on the injured list. He is the third Indians starter sidelined this season. Two-time Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber has been out for more than month with a broken right arm, and Mike Clevinger is nearing a return after being out since early April with a strained back muscle.

THAT WAS QUICK

Robinson Cano will be evaluated again after his return to the New York Mets' lineup lasted all of four innings. The 36-year-old second baseman was pulled from a 7-0 win Wednesday night against San Francisco hours after coming off the injured list. He limped off with left quadriceps tightness two weeks after initially straining the muscle. Cano doesn't think he'll need to go back on the IL. ''It's just got tightness,'' he said. ''Nothing else.'' Acquired from Seattle last offseason, Cano is hitting .238 with three homers and 14 RBIs.

BACK IN THE SWING

Rafael Devers and the World Series champion Boston Red Sox have won three straight, scoring eight runs in each game. They'll go for a three-game sweep at last-place Kansas City (19-42), which has dropped five in a row. Boston has homered in 22 of its last 25 games. ''We did a lot of good things offensively,'' manager Alex Cora said after Chris Sale struck out 12 in a three-hit shutout Wednesday night, ''but we can still be better.''

OVERCOMING OBSTACLES

Despite all their bullpen problems, the Washington Nationals will try for a season-best fifth consecutive victory when they open a four-game series in San Diego. Patrick Corbin (5-3, 3.46 ERA) looks to bounce back from his worst start of the season last Friday in Cincinnati. The $140 million lefty went 6-7 in 14 starts and five relief appearances against the Padres for NL West rival Arizona. Joey Lucchesi (4-3, 3.96) is up for San Diego.

Braves at Pirates ? 12:35 PM EST

Atlanta and Pittsburgh wrap up its three-game series at PNC Park after each team picked up a high-scoring victory the last two nights. The Braves (33-28) rallied from a 4-1 deficit to pull away from the Pirates on Tuesday, 12-5 by scoring nine runs in the final four innings, highlighted by home runs from Freddie Freeman, Josh Donaldson, and Austin Riley to cash as a -200 favorite.

The Pirates (29-31) rebounded on Wednesday following a two-hour rain delay to beat the Braves, 7-4. Pittsburgh jumped out to a 5-1 second inning lead and never looked back as Atlanta posted three runs in the ninth inning to make the final score look closer. Catcher Elias Diaz went deep for the first time this season, while battery mate Joe Musgrove bounced back from his pitching woes at home to toss eight solid innings to help Pittsburgh cash as a +115 underdog.

The Braves head into today?s finale owning a solid 12-5 mark in Game 3?s this season as Mike Foltynewicz takes the mound. The Atlanta right-hander hasn?t had much luck this season as the Braves have compiled a dreadful 1-6 record in his seven starts. The most recent defeat came as a -195 home favorite in an 8-2 setback to Detroit last Friday, as Foltynewicz yielded five earned runs for the third time this season.

Chris Archer won for the first time since early April in a 9-4 home triumph over Milwaukee last Friday. Archer tossed seven innings, but allowed at least four runs for the fifth consecutive outing. The OVER has hit in four of Archer?s last five starts, while the Pirates and Braves cashed the OVER in each of the first two games of this series.

Marlins at Brewers ? 2:10 PM EST

Which universe are we currently living in? The Marlins (23-36) have scored at least eight runs in four consecutive games (all on the road), while outscoring the Brewers (34-28) by a whopping 24-3 margin in a pair of blowout wins at Miller Park. Miami is seeking its second road sweep of the season this afternoon, while Milwaukee hasn?t been swept at home in a series of three or more games since 2016 against Pittsburgh.

To show how far along the Marlins have come recently, this team has won 13 of their last 18 games. Prior to this hot stretch, Miami suffered through a seven-game skid in which it scored a total of eight runs. The Marlins posted 11 runs alone in the fifth inning of Tuesday?s 16-0 blowout of the Brewers as a +175 underdog, while not letting up in last night?s 8-3 rout to cash as a +205 ?dog.

Southpaw Caleb Smith was Miami?s top pitcher for the first month by posting a 3-0 mark in six starts, while giving up one earned run or less four times. However, Smith has gone backwards of late as the Marlins are 1-4 in his past five outings, including three losses away from south Florida. Smith will keep the Marlins in the game as the left-hander has allowed two earned runs or fewer in nine of 11 starts, but hasn?t pitched past the fifth inning in his last three appearances.

Freddy Peralta counters for Milwaukee, as the Brewers? pitching staff is looking for a reprieve after the last two starters haven?t pitched past the fourth inning. Peralta?s last three appearances came out of the bullpen in which he gave up four runs in 7.1 innings of work. In Peralta?s most recent start, he lasted four innings in a 7-4 defeat at Philadelphia on May 13, as the Brewers are 2-4 in his six starts this season.

Rockies at Cubs ? 2:10 PM EST

It?s amazing how long winning streaks feel like they won?t end, but once that is gets snapped, you don?t know when a victory will come next. That?s the case for Colorado (31-29), who entered Chicago on an eight-game winning streak, but the Rockies are looking to avoid the sweep today after dropping the first two contests.

The Cubs (34-26) are back on the winning track after dropping three games to the rival Cardinals last weekend by beating the Angels in a make-up contest prior to capturing the first two against the Rockies. Chicago pulled away from Colorado on Tuesday night as -220 favorites, 6-3, highlighted by another solid start from right-hander Kyle Hendricks, who struck out 10 batters in seven innings. The Cubs held off the Rockies in a wild game last night, 8-7 as Chicago built a 3-0 lead before Colorado tied the game at 3-3. Chicago posted five runs in the sixth inning and picked up a late insurance win to guarantee its first home series win since mid-May.

Jose Quintana is winless in his past five starts for Chicago, as the southpaw seeks his first victory since May 5 against St. Louis. Quintana pitched well in his last outing against the Cardinals last Saturday until the rain fell at Busch Stadium, resulting in a lengthy rain delay and preventing the left-hander to continue in a 2-2 game. The Cubs ended up losing, 7-5 in a battle of the bullpens, as Quintana threw only 69 pitches. The Cubs are 4-2 in Quintana?s six starts at Wrigley Field this season, but he owns a bloated 5.60 ERA in daytime action.

The Rockies have lost their last three road series finales, while allowing 27 runs in those contests. Colorado turns to right-hander Peter Lambert this afternoon, who will be making his Major League debut. Lambert is the top pitching prospect in the Rockies? organization, as the San Dimas, California native (home of ?Bill and Ted?s Excellent Adventure"), has compiled a 2-2 record and 5.07 ERA at Triple-A Albuquerque.

Bloody Well Right

The New York Yankees will face a right-handed pitcher on Thursday when they face off against RHP Edwin Jackson and the Blue Jays. When the Yankees face a righty an 'over' result is usually the result, going 21-4-2 in their past 27 on the road vs. RHP, while going 7-2-1 in their past 10 overall against a right-handed starting pitcher. The over is also 6-1-1 in JA Happ's past eight starts on the road, and he'll be facing his former team. The over is also 7-1-1 in New York's past nine on the road against teams with a losing home record, 7-1-1 in the past nine against a starting pitcher with a WHIP north of 1.30, and the over is also 17-4 in their past 21 in Game 3 of a series, too.

For the Blue Jays, the over has connected in five in a row at home against left-handed pitchers, and the over is 5-0-1 in their past six overall vs. LHP. The over is 7-1-1 in the past nine at home for the Blue Jays, and 9-3-2 in the past 14 against American League East foes. In addition, the over is 9-4-2 in the past 15 overall for Toronto. Following a win, the over has connected in each of the past four, too, while going 6-2 in the past eight meetings overall against the Yankees.

Looking Ahead

Thursday, June 6

The line for the game between the Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers is set at 10 1/2, and that might not be too much based upon the trends. The Orioles roll out RHP David Hess against Rangers RHP Ariel Jurado in the series finale. Both of the first two contests were one-run games in very, very different fashion. Baltimore opened with a 12-11 victory in the opener on Monday, while Texas outlasted the O's 2-1 in 12 innings on Tuesday. Perhaps they conserved their energy and will be ready for another offensive onslaught.

The Rangers have hit the under in five of their past six games, however, and the under is 10-4 across their past 14. The under is also 7-1 in the past eight at home for the Rangers, with the outlier being Monday's game. The under is 4-1 in their past five against right-handed starting pitching, and 7-2 in their past nine following a victory, too. For the O's, the over is 5-2-1 in Hess' past eight starts overall, and 5-1 in their past six against winning teams, while going 8-3 in their past 11 games following a loss. The under is 6-2 in Baltimore's past eight overall, however, and 3-1-1 in their past five against AL West foes, too.

It's a battle of southpaws in San Diego as LHP Patrick Corbin starts for the Nationals against LHP Joey Lucchesi of the Padres. Corbin knows the Padres well from his days with the Arizona Diamondbacks, although this is a new, improved and powerful San Diego lineup than he has been accustomed.

The under has connected in four of the past five stats for Corbin, while going 3-0-1 in the past four for the Nats inside the NL West. The over is 5-2-1 in their past eight games on the road, while going 3-1-1 in the past five vs. LHP. For the Padres, the over is 5-0-1 in the past six outings overall, 5-0-1 in the past six at home and 6-0-1 in the previous seven matchups against teams with a losing overall record.

As far as Lucchesi is concerned, the over is 4-1-1 in his past six starts overall, but the under is 5-2-1 in his past eight starts at home. The under is also 9-4-1 in San Diego's past 14 vs. LHP, and 6-1-1 in their past eight at home against southpaws. In this series the under is 9-4-3 in the past 16 meetings overall, including 5-1-1 in the past seven at Petco Park.

Wind Report
We had some weather interruptions on Wednesday, but the winds are rather tranquil on Thursday, with all venues forecasted for winds 9 mph or under. The only weather trouble spot is in Kansas City, as there is a 30 percent or more chance of light rain all throughout the evening.

Friday, June 7

The Reds and Phillies tangle in the City of Brotherly Love on Friday night with RHP Tyler Mahle facing RHP Zach Eflin. If you're betting the line, the Reds are 3-13 in Mahle's past 16 starts and 1-11 in his past 12 on the road, while going 1-6 in his past seven against winning teams. Remember that for parlay action, especially since the Phillies are 5-1 in Efling's past six at home and 6-2 in his past eight against losing teams.

As far as the total is concerned, the over is 4-0 in Cincinnati's past four vs. RHP, while going 4-1 in their past five on the road against winning teams. The over is 5-2-1 in their past eight overall against righties, while going 3-1-1 in Mahle's past five on the road against winning clubs. The under is 5-2-1 in Eflin's past eight overall, and 4-1 in his past five at home. The under is also 7-2 in Philly's past nine against losing teams, and 4-0 in Eflin's past four assignments against sub-.500 clubs. The under is also 7-3-1 in Mahle's past 11 starts overall.

Out west, the Dodgers have LHP Clayton Kershaw going in San Francisco against a starter yet to be named as of Thursday morning. The over is actually 7-1 in Kershaw's past eight starts on the road, and 4-1 in his past five overall. The over is also 6-2 in his past eight in Game 1 of a series. However, the under is 15-5-1 in L.A.'s past 21 against losing teams, 6-0-1 in their past seven overall and 4-0 in the past four inside the division. While the over is 8-2-1 in San Francisco's past 11 against southpaws, the under is 16-5-1 in Kershaw's past 22 road starts against the Giants, and 25-8-3 in his past 36 overall against the rivals.

The Mariners and Angels square off in a battle of left-handers. LHP Marco Gonzales goes for the Mariners, and it hasn't been going very well for him. The over is 6-2-1 in Seattle's past nine overall, and 19-7-1 in their past 27 against LHP. The under is 4-1 in their past five on the road, however, and the under is 3-1-1 in Gonzo's past five road outings. The under is 5-2-1 in his past eight on the road against losing teams, too. For the Halos, the under is 22-5-1 in the past 28 games on a Friday, making under bettors say t.g.i.f. The undere is also 3-0-1 in LHP Andrew Heaney's past four against losing teams, and 7-3-1 in his past 11 in Game 1 of a series.

The under is also 20-7-1 in the past 28 at home for the Angels against southpaws and 6-2-3 in their past 11 against teams with a losing record. The under is 36-16-4 in the past 56 overall vs. LHP, too. In this series, the over is 4-1-1 in the past six meetings, and 7-3 in the past 10 battles in Anaheim. However, the under is 5-2 in Gonzales' past seven outings against the Halos.

Wind Report
In Friday's lone matinee game, the Cardinals and Cubs will experience a win of 10-13 mph blowing straight into the face of the batters from straightaway center field.

At Progressive Field in Cleveland, the Yankees and Indians will be battling a swirling wind coming in from right field at a 11-14 mph clip. On the other side of Lake Erie, the Twins and Tigers will see the opposite, with winds blowing out to right field at 10-13 mph. The A's and Rangers will battle a 10-13 mph wind blowing out to the right-center field power alley, benefiting left-handed hitters especially.

However, the big wind winner of the day will be in Oracle Park in San Francisco, as the Dodgers and Giants will contend with a jetstream gusting from 14-17 mph out to the right-center field power alley.
