**Wisconsin at Purdue**

-- Wisconsin (9-9 straight up, 6-10 against the spread) hasn?t missed the NCAA Tournament since 1998, but Greg Gard?s team is in danger of so this season. Of course, a huge upset win in West Lafayette on Tuesday night would go a long way towards avoiding the first unhappy Selection Sunday in two decades.

-- As of Monday night, most betting shops had Purdue (17-2 SU, 12-6 ATS) listed as a massive 15.5-point favorite with a total of 134.5.

-- Wisconsin is 1-4 SU and 1-3-1 ATS in five road assignments this season. The Badgers are playing on the road for a third straight game after dropping their first two Big Ten road tilts at Rutgers (64-60) and at Nebraska (63-59). They?ve had a week to shake off this past Tuesday?s setback to the Cornhuskers in Lincoln as 1.5-point underdogs. Ethan Happ, the only returning starter from last year?s senior-laded squad that advanced to the Sweet 16 before losing to Chris Chiozza and Florida at the buzzer, produced 19 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and two assists before fouling out. Brad Davison, the 4-star true freshman point guard out of Maple Grove (Minn.) High School where he had 43 TD passes as a senior football player, finished with 15 points, five rebounds and five assists. Brevin Pritzl had 10 points and seven boards.

-- UW has posted a 1-2-1 spread record with one outright win (at Penn St.) in four previous games as an underdog. This is ? obviously ? the Badgers? biggest spot as underdogs this year (and maybe a decade?).

-- Happ is averaging team-highs in scoring (16.8 points per game), rebounding (8.5 RPG), assists (3.4 APG) and field-goal percentage (56.8%). Davison is averaging 12.1 points, 2.3 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.

-- Wisconsin is No. 135 in the RPI Rankings, posting a 1-5 record against the Top 50 and a 2-8 mark versus the Top 100. The Badgers have home wins over Western Kentucky and Indiana.

-- Purdue hasn?t tasted defeat since dropping back-to-back games on Nov. 22 and 23 at the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas. Matt Painter?s team dropped a 78-75 decision to Tennessee in overtime and lost 77-73 to Western Kentucky. Since then, however, the Boilermakers have won 13 consecutive games while going 9-4 ATS. They?ve won nine of those 13 games by margins of 12 points or more.

He drained 4-of-9 launches from long distance. Dakota Mathias contributed 12 points, six rebounds and four assists without a turnover.

Vince Edwards (14.4 PPG, 8.2 RPG) is burying 44.1 percent of his 3?s and 84.8 percent of his free throws. He also has a 52/36 assists-to-turnover ratio. Mathias (13.3 PPG) is averaging team-highs in assists (4.5 APG) and steals (1.4 SPG), while Matt Haarms (5.5 PPG, 4.1 RPG) is averaging a team-best 2.7 blocked shots per game.

-- Purdue is ranked 14th in the nation in scoring defense, limiting opponents to a 62.7 points-per-game average. The Boilermakers are fifth in the country in field-goal percentage defense (37.5%). **Kentucky at South Carolina**

-- As of Monday night, most books had Kentucky (14-3 SU, 8-9 ATS) installed as a 2.5-point favorite with a total of 141.5.

-- John Calipari?s team is 2-1 both SU and ATS in three road assignments. Kentucky is on the road for the second straight game and the fourth in its last six outings.

-- Since losing at Tennessee two Saturdays ago (1/6), Calipari?s freshmen-laded team has produced back-to-back to victories. UK beat Texas A&M 74-73 at Rupp Arena this past Tuesday before capturing a 74-67 win at Vanderbilt. The Wildcats took the cash as two-point favorites against the Commodores, but they failed to cover the number versus the Aggies as 4.5-point home favorites. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the catalyst with 22 points, six assists and four rebounds. Kevin Knox added 17 points, while P.J. Washington contributed 10 points and eight boards.

-- Calipari played only seven players at Vandy due to the absences of point guard Quade Green (lower back) and Tai Wynyard (flu), who has missed three straight games compared to two for Green. Gilgeous-Alexander and Hamidou Diallo both played 39 minutes apiece at USC, while Washington logged 38 minutes.

-- Knox is averaging a team-high 14.2 PPG while also pulling down 5.6 rebounds per game. However, he has a terrible 29/44 assists-to-turnovers ratio. Diallo is averaging 13.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, while GIlgeous-Alexander (12.4 PPG, 4.4 APG & 2.1 SPG) has splashed the nets at a 47.6 percent clip from downtown. Green, who along with Wynyard is listed as ?questionable,? is scoring at a 10.7 PPG clip while buryi8ng 40.0 percent of his 3-balls.

-- Kentucky owns a 4-3 spread record in seven games as a single-digit favorite.

-- Kentucky is No. 9 in the RPI with a 2-3 record against Top-50 opponents and an 8-3 mark versus the Top 100. UK?s only Top-100 win on the road is a 74-71 victory at LSU on Jan. 3. The ?Cats have home wins over the likes of Louisville, Texas A&M, Georgia, Va. Tech, Vermont, East Tennessee St and Utah Valley.

--South Carolina (11-6 SU, 7-8 ATS) has won six of its seven home games, going 3-3 ATS. Frank Martin?s club lost three starters from last year?s Final Four team, including Sindarius Thornwell, Duane Notice and P.J. Dozier.

-- South Carolina is No. 55 in the RPI, going 0-3 against the Top 50 and 2-5 versus the Top 100. In other words, this program in dire need of a ?W? over the ?Cats on Tuesday. The Gamecocks have a win at Georgia and a home triumph over Wyoming.

-- Martin?s team picked up its best win of the season this past Saturday at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, where USC captured a 64-57 win at Georgia. The Gamecocks won outright as 4.5-point underdogs, hooking up money-line backers with a payout in the +165 neighborhood. Chris Silva, one of Martin?s two returning starters, led the way with 14 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots. Frank Booker, the grad transfer who previously played at Oklahoma and FAU, had 17 points and seven rebounds, while Hassani Gravett chipped in with 11 points.

-- Silva, the junior power forward, is averaging team-bests in scoring (14.2 PPG), rebounding (7.9 RPG), FG percentage (48.9%) and blocked shots (1.3 BPG). Booker (10.9 PPG) is the team?s second-leading scorer who?s shooting at a 41.5 percent clip from 3-point range. Maik Kotsar, the other returning starter with Silva, is averaging 8.4 points and 4.6 RPG.

-- South Carolina is 1-4 ATS in five underdog spots, but this is its first game as a home underdog.

-- Totals have been an overall wash (8-8) for UK, but the ?under? is 3-0 in its road games.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) Carsen Edwards scored 21 points and Vincent Edwards added 20, leading No. 3 Purdue to a 78-50 blowout over Wisconsin on Tuesday night

The Boilermakers (18-2, 7-0 Big Ten) have won 14 straight overall, 19 in a row at home and have matched the best 20-game record in school history. The only other time Purdue did that was 1987-88 when it also won its first seven conference games.

Ethan Happ had 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds to lead the Badgers (9-10, 2-4). Wisconsin has lost three straight - all on the road.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) - Barry Brown scored 24 points, Dean Wade added 21 and Kansas State frustrated Oklahoma star Trae Young all game.

Cartier Diarra added 16 points and Xavier Sneed had 13 for the defensive-minded Wildcats (13-5, 3-3 Big 12), who earned their sixth consecutive win over the Sooners at Bramlage Coliseum.

Young was held to 20 points on 8-of-21 shooting, his fewest since scoring 15 in his college debut. He also was 2 of 10 from the 3-point line and committed 12 turnovers against six assists.

Rashard Odomes had 16 points and Brady Manek had 12 for the Sooners (14-3, 4-2).

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Gary Clark scored 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds lead Cincinnati.

UCF (12-6, 3-3) got seven points apiece from Tacko Fall, Terrell Allen and Dayon Griffin, but struggled the entire game to get inside the Bearcats defense. UCF shot just 30 percent for the game and committed 14 turnovers.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Graduate transfer Cameron Johnson scored a season-high 21 points to help North Carolina preserve its perfect all-time home record against Clemson.

Joel Berry II scored 14 of his 17 after halftime for the Tar Heels (15-4, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who hung on despite seeing most of an 18-point lead erased by Clemson's torrid second-half shooting.

Luke Maye added 11 points while playing with a stitched-up cut on his nose suffered shortly before halftime.

The win improved the Tar Heels to 59-0 all-time at home against Clemson, including 28-0 in the Smith Center. It's the longest home winning streak against a single opponent in NCAA history.

Marcquise Reed scored 21 points for the Tigers (15-3, 4-2).

SOUTH CAROLINA 76, No. 18 KENTUCKY 68

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Chris Silva tied his career high with 27 points and South Carolina rallied from 14 points down in the second half.

The Gamecocks (12-6, 3-3 Southeastern Conference) seemed done after Kevin Knox's short jumper with 12:28 to go put the Wildcats ahead 54-40. But that's when South Carolina, fueled by the 6-foot-9 Silva, got going and outscored Kentucky (14-4, 4-2) 36-14 the rest of the way to pull off the upset.

Silva had 12 points in that stretch to lift the Gamecocks.

Knox led Kentucky with 21 points.

13) A young man named Tyler Hilinski took his own life Tuesday; he was 21 years old.

What makes this newsworthy is that Hilinski was supposed to be Washington State?s starting QB next fall- he started the Coogs? Holiday Bowl game against Michigan State last month. Playing QB for Mike Leach is often a ticket to playing pro football, he is that good a coach.

Apparently a suicide note was left; my thoughts and prayers go out to his family, who are now left with a near-infinite number of unanswered questions. It is a very sad thing.

12) You never know what demons lurk inside a person; would it be that terrible if we were all a little nicer to each other? In today?s society, kindness is often mistaken for weakness. Swagger and cockiness are attractive, but what if we were just nicer to each other?

Playing quarterback is a tough thing; you?re the most important player on the field. In this age of social media overload, people can hide behind their keyboards and be quite cruel. Hopefully that is not what happened here. I just hope his family can find peace when all of this settles down.

11) After consecutive 5-11 seasons, New Jersey Jets lowered season-ticket prices for 2018 by an average of 11%, lowest tickets have been for Jet games since 2008.

10) Clippers are 12-4 with PG Milos Teodosic in the lineup, 10-17 without him.

9) U of Arizona?s new football coach Kevin Sumlin will make $21.5M over the next four years; $11M from Arizona, $10.5M from Texas A&M, which fired him last month.

8) North Carolina 87, Clemson 79? Tigers are now 0-59 in Chapel Hill. Zero. and. 59.

Clemson played scared in the first half, were down 18, then caught fire, made 15 shots in a row and got within 71-69, but their rally fell just short. Clemson should make the NCAAs.

7) The Alabama linebacker who tried to punch an assistant coach during the national title game has transferred to I-AA Tennessee State.

6) When the Vikings took a knee on the PAT after the game-winning TD Sunday, it had to be been the first time since punters became specialists that both teams? punters were on the field on the same time.

There was a time where some punters played other positions (Danny White, Dan Pastorini were QB?s, Donny Anderson was a RB) but that was a long time ago.

5) Jordan Tucker was #82 recruit in the Class of 2017; he signed with Duke. After playing only 14 minutes in two games for the Blue Devils, Tucker is transferring to Butler.

4) April 6, the Lakers will unveil a statue honoring Elgin Baylor outside Staples Center. Baylor played for the Lakers for 14 years- he was 1st-team NBA 10 of those years. He will be the sixth Laker to have a statue outside Staples.

3) According to the Wall Street Journal, the world?s busiest K-Mart is located??.in Guam.

2) Some limited partners of the Pittsburgh Steelers will apparently lobby owner Art Rooney to fire coach Mike Tomlin. This is a bad idea.

Tomlin is 116-60 (.659) with an 8-7 playoff record, a Super Bowl title and no losing seasons in his 11-year stint as the Steelers? head coach??.

In case you were wondering, Bill Cowher was 149-90-1 as Steelers coach (.623). with a Super Bowl ring and a 12-9 playoff record.

1) Steelers are 45-19 in regular season games the last four years, but only 3-5 in playoffs since Tomlin won his Super Bowl. QB Ben Roethlisberger is nearing the end of his great career, and there is no promising young QB on the Steelers? roster.

**Arkansas at Florida**

-- Florida (12-5 straight up, 8-8 against the spread) is in a tie with Kentucky for second place in the SEC standings, with both teams one-half game behind first-place Auburn and its 4-0 record in league play. The Gators fell to 4-1 in SEC action and saw their six-game winning streak snapped in Saturday?s 78-72 loss at Ole Miss as five-point road ?chalk.? Keith Stone scored a team-best 23 points and had five rebounds in the losing effort. Egor Koulechov had 11 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and three assists without a turnover, and Jalen Hudson scored 11 points before fouling out after only 19 minutes of playing time.

-- Most books opened UF as a six-point favorite late Tuesday afternoon.

-- Mike White?s squad is 7-2 SU and 3-5 ATS at home. UF is 1-2 ATS with one outright defeat (vs. FSU) in three games as a single-digit home favorite.

-- Stone is playing the best basketball of his collegiate career. The third-year sophomore had a one-on-one meeting with White two weeks ago and since then, he?s exploded. Stone scored in double figures only once in Florida?s first 13 games, but he?s been in double figures in four straight outings. During this four-game stretch, Stone has become much more aggressive offensively. He?s averaging 16.0 points and 6.8 rebounds per game during this span, and he attempted 18 of UF?s 22 free throws in Oxford.

-- While Stone is blossoming, junior guard KeVaughn Allen is in a miserable slump. The former Gatorade Player of the Year as a prep senior in Little Rock, Arkansas, has been held to seven points or fewer in four consecutive games and has only scored in double figures three times during the past 10 contests. His averages in scoring (10.3 points per game), field-goal percentage (34.9%) and 3-point accuracy (29.1%) are career-low numbers.

-- According to long-time UF beat writer Chris Harry of floridagators.com, the Gators lead the SEC in turnover margin (+4.9) and 3-pointers per game (tied with Missouri with 9.6). They?re second in assist-to-turnover ratio (+1.4) and third in scoring (81.6 points per game), free-throw percentage (76.4%) and 3-point accuracy (39.0%).

-- Florida is No. 30 at KenPom.com and No. 39 in the RPI Rankings. The Gators are 3-3 against the RPI Top 50 and 6-5 versus the Top 100. They own neutral-court wins over Cincinnati, Stanford and Gonzaga, in addition to wins at Texas A&M and at Missouri. UF also has a home victory over Mississippi State.

-- Hudson, who sat out last year after transferring from Va. Tech, is averaging a team-high 16.2 PPG while shooting 42.0 percent from 3-point land. Koulechov, a grad transfer from Rice who starter his career at Arizona St., is averaging 15.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. ?3-Gor? is making 93.9 percent of his FTs and 41.6 percent of his treys.

-- Arkansas (12-5 SU, 9-8 ATS) is winless both SU and ATS in three road assignments. The Razorbacks are 2-3 in SEC play, joining eight conference teams in the middle of the standings with records of 3-2, 2-2 or 2-3.

-- Arkansas snapped a three-game losing streak with Saturday?s 65-63 non-covering win over Missouri as a 4.5-point home favorite. Daniel Gafford?s 15 points led a balanced offensive attack with four players in double figures.

-- Arkansas has failed to cover the spread in five consecutive games (and the fade Arkansas-?under? combo has been a parlay winner in four straight).

-- Mike Anderson, the former top assistant to Nolan Richardson during the glory years of the storied program, left Arkansas late in Richardson?s iconic tenure to be the head coach at UAB before landing at Missouri and taking the Tigers to an Elite Eight. Anderson came back to Fayetteville in 2011 and is now in his seventh season as the head coach. Anderson owns a 140-79 record with only a pair of NCAA Tournament bids in 2015 and ?17.

-- Arkansas is No. 33 at KenPom.com and No. 19 in the RPI thanks to a 3-2 record against the Top 50 and a 5-6 mark versus the Top 100. The Razorbacks? have a marquee neutral-court scalp of Oklahoma (#6 RPI), in addition to home wins over Tennessee, Missouri, Minnesota, Colorado State and Fresno State.

-- With another hat tip to Harry here, Arkansas hasn?t tasted victory in Gainesville since Feb. 28 of 1995. Corliss Williamson had 20 points and eight rebounds in that victory for a team that was on its way to a second straight appearance in the national championship game. The Razorbacks would lose that one to UCLA, which was sparked by true freshman Cameron Dollar out of Atlanta Douglas High School. Dollar, who I played against at camps (and was absolutely destroyed by ? seriously, nobody ever made me feel like less of a basketball player than Cam Dollar) in the early 1990s and who?s the son of the former Douglas HS head coach, was subbing for the injured Tyus Edney, who had hit a buzzer beater to clip Missouri after going the length of the court off the dribble in the Round of 32. Of course, the Hogs had won the national title the year before on Scotty Thurman?s late 3-ball to beat Duke, which had rallied from a double-digit second-half deficit to beat Florida in its first Final Four appearance in Charlotte. (I remember?because I was there.)

-- Florida currently has 25/1 odds to win the national title at Sportsbook.ag. Arkansas is at 150/1.

-- Florida has won seven straight games in this rivalry, 12 of the last 13 and is a remarkable 18-3 in 21 head-to-head meetings dating back to 2003. (Yes, Nolan has been gone that long. I remember in the 1990s when UF went to the old Barnhill Arena or Bud Walton, I?d be thankful if the Gators got out of there without losing by 20-plus points.). White is 4-0 against the Razorbacks.

-- The ?over? is 8-7 overall for UF, but the ?under? is on a 7-3 run in its past 10 games. The ?under? is also 4-3 in the Gators? home contests.

-- Totals have been an overall wash for the Hogs (8-8), but the ?under? is 3-0 in their road contests. The ?under? is also on a 4-0 run for Arkansas regardless of the venue.

-- Seton Hall is in a first-place tie with Villanova atop the Big East rankings, as both schools share 4-1 marks in conference action. Creighton is in a three-way tie for second place with a 4-2 record in Big East play.

-- As of early Tuesday night, most spots had Creighton (14-4 SU, 10-7 ATS) listed as a five-point ?chalk.?

-- Creighton had its four-game winning streak snapped Saturday in a 92-70 loss at Xavier. The Bluejays, who were 3.5-point road underdogs, caught the Musketeers in a foul mood after they had taken woodshed treatment at top-ranked Villanova earlier in the week. Marcus Foster scored a team-high 16 points in the losing effort, draining 3-of-6 launches from 3-point range. Mtichell Ballock also had 16 points and made 4-of-8 attempts from long distance. Pac-12 leaders No. 14 Arizona faces Stanford face off
January 17, 2018

A look at things to watch this week in the Pac-12 Conference:

GAME OF THE WEEK: No. 14 Arizona at Stanford, Saturday. The Wildcats (14-4, 4-1 Pac-12) bounced back from a road loss to Colorado by beating both Oregon schools last week. The Wildcats were picked to win the Pac-12, so it's no surprise they're tied for the conference lead. The team they're tied with: Stanford. The Cardinal (10-8, 4-1) have been the surprise of the early conference season, winning four straight games since opening the Pac-12 season with a loss to California after a nonconference schedule that included losses to Eastern Washington and Portland State. Stanford knocked off UCLA and USC two weeks ago and had a Washington-school sweep last week. The Cardinal have a tough game before they get to Saturday's showdown, facing No. 16 Arizona State on Wednesday.

LOOKING AHEAD: Oregon (12-6, 2-3) had a solid trip to the Grand Canyon State last week, knocking off Arizona State and taking Arizona down to the wire. The trip could be a sign the Ducks are headed back in the direction, but this week doesn't get any easier. Oregon hosts USC on Thursday, then has a short turnaround to face UCLA on Saturday. Find a way to win those and Oregon can definitely say it is back.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The two longest Pac-12 series win streaks will be on the line this week. Arizona has won 15 straight games against Stanford, dating to 2009, and Oregon has won 14 straight against USC since 2010. ... Oregon's Kenny Wooten has 51 blocks this season, three shy of the top 10 by Pac-12 freshmen. ... Freshmen have been named the Pac-12 player of the week three straight weeks for the second time since 1983-84. Stanford's Daejon Davis earned the award this week, following Colorado's McKinley Wright IV and Arizona's Deandre Ayton.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Robert Franks, Washington State. The Cougars have struggled, losing eight of their last 11 games, but their sharp-shooting junior forward hasn't. Franks leads Washington State with 18.2 points per game, grabs 7.0 rebounds and is shooting 45 percent from the 3-point arc. He also matched the Pac-12 record with 10 3-pointers against California last week. Washington State plays at Colorado and Utah this week.

ON THE WOMEN'S SIDE: Two rivalry games highlight the Pac-12 women's schedule this week. Washington and Washington State play the first one on Wednesday, then it's No. 7 Oregon at No. 18 Oregon State. ... Cal's Kristine Anigwe was the conference player of the week last week after averaging 28 points and 13.5 rebounds. ... No. 22 Arizona State is sixth nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.51

WASHINGTON (AP) Top-ranked Villanova led by as many as 44 points - 44! - and gave Georgetown coach Patrick Ewing a rude welcome back to the schools' rivalry, handing the Hoyas their worst loss in more than 40 years, 88-56 on Wednesday night.

Jalen Brunson led the way with 18 points and seven assists for Villanova (17-1, 5-1 Big East), which finished 17 for 33 on 3s, while Georgetown went 4 for 15.

Mikal Bridges scored 17 for the Wildcats, winners of seven consecutive games against the Hoyas, Villanova's longest streak in a series that dates to 1922.

The last time Ewing faced Villanova in any capacity was in the last game of his college playing career at Georgetown, a surprising 66-64 victory for the underdog Wildcats in the 1985 NCAA championship game. It was quite clear, quite quickly, on Wednesday that there would be no such tight outcome -nor any chance of an upset by Georgetown (12-6, 2-5).

SMU 83, No. 7 WICHITA ST. 78

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - Shake Milton hit five 3-pointers en route to a career-best 33 points and SMU beat Wichita State.

Wichita State (15-3, 5-1 American Athletic Conference) had won 27 straight and 67 of 68 at Koch Arena.

The Mustangs (13-6, 3-3) snapped a three-game skid with their first victory since Dec. 31. It was their first road win against a top-10 team since Jan. 16, 1982 at No. 10 Houston.

Milton was 11 of 14 from the floor and 5 of 6 from deep while playing 40 minutes. Jahmal McMurray scored 16 points for the Mustangs, who shot 63.8 percent.

Landry Shamet led the Shockers with 20 points.

TEXAS 67, No. 8 TEXAS TECH 58

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Kerwin Roach II scored 20 points in a surprise return to the lineup and Texas got another home win over a Top 25 opponent in a week, beating Texas Tech.

Roach, who had missed the previous two games with a fracture in his left, non-shooting hand, was expected to miss a few more. But he suited up for pregame warmups and was cleared to play right before tipoff.

Roach gave the Longhorns (12-6, 3-3 Big 12) a new threat both inside and out with his 3-point shooting and aggressive drives to the basket. The Longhorns - who beat then-No. 16 TCU 99-98 in double-overtime last Wednesday - also played their best defense in weeks, anchored by freshman center Mo Bamba under the basket. Bamba had 15 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks.

Jarrett Culver scored 16 points to lead Texas Tech (15-3, 4-2).

No. 11 XAVIER 88, ST. JOHN'S 82

CINCINNATI (AP) - Kerem Kanter had 22 points and led a late run that swept Xavier to a victory over St. John's that gave Chris Mack the Musketeers record for career coaching wins.

Kanter had eight points and an emphatic block during a 17-2 run that kept Xavier (17-3, 5-3 Big East) unbeaten in 13 games at the Cintas Center this season. He also matched his career high with 13 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.

Mack got his 203rd coaching victory at his alma mater, passing Pete Gillen for the school record in his ninth season.

Trevon Bluiett emerged from a shooting slump by scoring 24 points during a 92-70 win over then-No. 25 Creighton on Saturday. He followed with 23 points on Wednesday.

St. John's (10-9, 0-7) led midway through the second half before Xavier surged ahead 79-67 with 2:56 left. The Red Storm dropped its seventh straight. Justin Simon had a career-high 28 points.

No. 14 ARIZONA 79, CALIFORNIA 58

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Deandre Ayton had 20 points and 11 rebounds, and No. 14 Arizona overcame a slow, sloppy start to beat California.

Parker Jackson-Cartwright scored 14 points with three 3-pointers during a decisive stretch spanning halftime as the Wildcats won their third straight since losing at Colorado on Jan. 6.

Dylan Smith made all four of his 3s and added 14 points and Allonzo Trier scored 15 as Arizona (15-4, 5-1 Pac-12) played without sophomore guard Rawle Alkins, held out as a precaution with what the school said was mild right foot soreness.

Justice Sueing scored 19 points to lead Cal (7-12, 1-5) but missed all six of his 3-point attempts for the cold-shooting Golden Bears, held to 35.3 percent and outrebounded 36-22.

STANFORD 86, No. 16 ARIZONA ST. 77

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) - Oscar Da Silva scored eight of his 14 points in the final four minutes and Stanford held on to beat Arizona State.

Reid Travis had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinal (11-8, 5-1 Pac-12), who nearly squandered a 15-point second-half lead. Dorian Pickens added 19 points.

Romello White scored 19 points for the Sun Devils (14-4, 2-4 Pac-12), who lost their third road conference game in their last four. Kodi Justice added 14 points, Shannon Evans II had 13 and Remy Martin 11.

ALABAMA 76, No. 17 AUBURN 71

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - John Petty scored 27 points, Dazon Ingram added 16, and short-handed Alabama defeated Auburn.

Alabama played without its starting point guard and leading scorer, Collin Sexton, who sat out with an abdominal injury. But Petty more than made up for the loss. The freshman guard made eight of 13 3-point attempts and helped the Crimson Tide (12-6, 4-2 Southeastern Conference) surge ahead of Auburn with a 15-5 run in the second half.

It wasn't always easy for Alabama. Coach Avery Johnson's team struggled to take care of the basketball without its primary ball handler. The Crimson Tide turned the ball over 12 times in the first half, just two shy of its average per game this season. Despite the sloppy play, Alabama's 3-point shooting helped hide some of the mistakes. Petty, who took Sexton's place in the starting lineup, knocked down three of his 3-point baskets in the first half to help Alabama keep the game close.

Bryce Brown scored a team-high 12 points for Auburn (16-2, 4-1).

CREIGHTON 80, No. 19 SETON HALL 63

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Marcus Foster scored 25 points and reserve Ronnie Harrell Jr. had a career-high 18, and Creighton never trailed against Seton Hall.

The Bluejays (15-4, 5-2 Big East) split the season series with the Pirates (15-4, 4-2), avenging a 90-84 road loss last month in which they blew a double-digit lead and failed to score the last 3 + minutes.

Creighton led by 16 points early but saw the Pirates pull to 39-32 at half. Harrell scored seven points during a 17-9 run to open the second half that put Creighton up 58-43.

Myles Powell led the Pirates with 19 points. Seton Hall shot a season-low 38.1 percent, committed 17 turnovers and scored its fewest points of the season.

Creighton shot 51.7 percent, making it the first Seton Hall opponent to hit more than half its shots.

MISSOURI 59, No. 21 TENNESSEE 55

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Kevin Puryear had 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Missouri rallied in the second half to beat Tennessee.

Jontay Porter added 10 points and seven rebounds for Missouri (13-5, 3-2 Southeastern Conference). The Tigers found their rhythm in the second half, using 3s from Kassius Robertson, Jordan Geist and Porter to fuel a 13-2 run starting with 10 minutes remaining.

Grant Williams led Tennessee (12-5, 3-3) with 15 points. Kyle Alexander had 12 points and Admiral Schofield added 11. The rest of the Volunteers only scored 17 points, and the team as a whole shot 38.9 percent, including 23.8 percent from deep.

OHIO ST. 71, NORTHWESTERN 65

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) - Chris Holtmann became the first coach in 95 years to win his first seven Big Ten games as Ohio State defeated Northwestern.

C.J. Jackson had 12 points, eight assists and three steals, Micah Potter scored 13 points off the bench, Jae'Sean Tate added 12 and Keita Bates-Diop had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Buckeyes (16-4, 7-0), who won their sixth straight overall.

Holtmann is the third Big Ten coach to win his first seven conference games, joining Wisconsin's Walter Meanwell (1911-12) and Iowa's Sam Barry (1922-23). Holtmann replaced Thad Matta, the program's all-time wins leader, this season.

Vic Law scored 14 points and Scottie Lindsey added 13 for Northwestern (11-9, 2-5) as the Wildcats suffered their second straight double-digit loss.

No. 24 TCU 96, IOWA ST. 73

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Vladimir Brodziansky had 26 points and TCU snapped a three-game losing streak with a victory over Iowa State while playing for the first time without injured starting point guard Jaylen Fisher.

Alex Robinson, who started at point guard, scored eight points and had a school-record 17 assists for the Horned Frogs (14-4, 2-4 Big 12), who never trailed and shot 60 percent from the field. He had only one turnover in 38 minutes.

Brodziansky shot 11 of 13 for his third 20-point game in five games. JD Miller added 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting with five 3-pointers.

Donovan Jackson had 19 points for Iowa State (10-6, 1-5).

Pittsburgh Steelers lost a home playoff game 45-42 Sunday; there was much unrest in Steelers? Nation, so a scapegoat was found? offensive coordinator Todd Haley.

You would think defensive coordinator would take some grief, but no. Maybe when the QB, a future Hall of Famer, tells the media that he isn?t allowed to audible to a QB sneak, maybe that was the straw that broke the camel?s back.

12) Speaking of quarterbacks not being allowed to audible, when Mike Martz ran the Rams? offense, his QB?s, Kurt Warner and Marc Bulger, weren?t allowed to audible either. Doesn?t make a lot of sense to me, especially when you have a veteran QB, but coaches have big egos, too.

11) TCU?s best guard, Jaylen Fisher, is out indefinitely after hurting his knee in practice. TCU is 2-4 in Big X, with five of the six games decided by 5 or less points- 3 of the 5 games went to OT.

10) Shaquille O?Neal?s son Shareef is a 6-7 power forward who is committed to play for Arizona next year- he is considered a 4-star (out of 5) recruit.

9) South Carolina 76, Kentucky 68? Wildcats led by 14 points with 11:30 left, lost in Columbia brickfest Tuesday where teams combined to go 6-34 on arc. Kentucky used nine players; six freshmen (five of them started) and three sophomores.

8) Thru Tuesday?s college basketball games, the national average on free throws was 70.9%, which would be the highest it has been the last 17 years, and 3rd year in row it has gone up.
