The flag was never adopted by the confederacy. It was the battle guidon for General Robert E. Lee. The stupid thing became a symbol for racist principles when it was adopted by the KKK. It didn't fly over South Carolina during the civil war, so it doesn't represent anything except hatred. It doesn't even belong in a museum. It's not representative of the confederacy, it's the stars and bars, yes, but claiming it was the flag flown by the confederate states is not historically accurate. It's not an icon that directly represented a regrettable era such as the swastika. What historical value to the history is our country does it truly have unless it's importance and use is contrived? If there is ever a need for a KKK museum they can hang it there.

Hope this helps,
FDC

No it did not and that's a blatantly ignorant statement you are parroting from FoxNews and their idiotic contributors. I suppose you're going to say that the confederate army was the best army ever on American soil because you heard Ann Coulter say it?

We only had around 34 states at the time the Emancipation Proclamation was signed so tell me how our flag flew over slave owned states. Ridiculous statement.

How far is this going to go???

"The drive to remove the Confederate flag has now reached the virtual world. Apple announced Thursday that it would be removing apps from its App Store that it deemed offensive."

Also gone from the App Store are several games including Civil War: 1863 from Hunted Cow Games.

That game and three others -- Civil War: 1862, Civil War: 1864 and Civil War: Gettysburg -- were removed "without any warning, because they used the Confederate flag," said Andrew Mulholland, co-founder of Hunted Cow Studios. "It seems disappointing that they would remove it as they weren't being used in an offensive way, being that they were historical war games and hence it was the flag used at the time."

I don't play video games, but I think this flag thing is getting out of hands.

I don't know all the posting rules here at MJ, but I am going to cut and paste what a friend of mine wrote on his face book page because I agree with him on this topic.

MY WIFE AND I JUST GOT BACK FROM A TRIP. ONE STOP WAS AT AN OLD CEMETARY. THERE IS A NUMBER OF CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS BURIED THERE. I COUNTED AT LEAST 20 SMALL CONFEDERATE FLAGS ON GRAVES. ONE HAD FALLEN OVER AND I STOOD IT BACK UP.
1) These were soldiers. Their headstones were the small military type with the units that they served in.
2) These were not slave owners. These were everyday farmers, laborers, etc.
3) They didn't give their lives for anything but the South, their family, their neighbors, their friends, the guy fighting on their left or right. There was many families split. One brother fought for the north and the other one for the South. Many fought because they thought that Washington was meddling in their personal lives.
4) I'm personally sick and tired of the racism bullshit.
5) I don't know a racist. I don't remember the last time I heard someone say nigger. Our kids and our favorite teacher for them was Ms. King, a very classy black teacher. I did Meals on Wheels for a year in a totally black dangerous neighborhood. I did all my teaching in Minority Majority schools and loved it. At one high school, the majority of whites signed a petition to make a black assistant principal the new principal when the current one retired.
6) I'm also sick of spineless assholes who cave into the left liberals every time they blame a policeman or want us to kiss their ass and ask them to forgive us for something that happened a long time ago.
7) My answer is simply to tell them all to go to hell.

They died trying to overthrow this country. Fuck em.

The confederate flag was pretty much forgotten until it was used by good ole Strom Thurmond's party which stood for the segregation of races.
