Half full, half empty.

No, just stating facts. They don't give away ALL the money from the ticket sales. It's actually less than a third, 32.5%

So, for the jackpot to reach $600,000,000 there were over $1.8 BILLION in ticket sales.

One ticket won the jackpot, add in the other smaller prizes given out and it is safe to say the lottery kept over a Billion dollars for themselves.

That's right, with all the economic issues in this country, Americans just flushed over a Billion dollars on nearly unbeatable odds.

Why did they do that? So one person could have all the money. Remember that next time you hear someone bitching about corporate executives getting rich off the people working for them. So many people working hard so that so few can get all the money.

Weird how our perspective works.

Yea, as I look it seems there are a good number of conflicting reports on how much money actually goes to the jackpot.

Would my statements be any less accurate if 100% of the money went to the prize fund and Americans just threw away $600,000,000 so one person could have it all?

While I realize your biggest joy in life is following me around to insult me (notice I don't follow you around, weird huh?), it doesn't change the logic here. Should any company in this country employ the same math/logic they would be the scourge of the nation, wouldn't they?

It's not like the "lottery" keeps the rest. Retailers get about 15% of the sales. Some of the money goes to state projects, and yes......people actually work for the lotto in each state, so they do get paid, too.

People will never care about any of that, just like people won't care that they are being shorted when they hit 17 on roulette, or boxcars at craps.

The only time someone would care, is if you or I were running it. If an individual tried to make this kind of profit, you would be called a thief, and no one would play. They would not want to be putting that money in your pocket.

The 3rd is still receiving through 2 years, and the fourth is still in High School, but has grades to qualify as he will be goiing to Univ. of Georgia. Just sayin'.

You are a joke, you just happened to be in the thread with idiotic comments. That was easy to reply to. Go fawk yourself.

Also, its a form of entertainment that people choose to do and if that is how they choose to spend 2 dollars, why should it matter to you? Miserable fawk.

PF- the lottery serves an important purpose- it taxes millions of Americans who pay no taxes yet still receive refunds.

Here's another way to look at it, how many people that waste (which I think is a fair word considering the odds) $2.00 on a Powerball ticket yet have never given $1.00 to cancer research?

There have been easily over a Billion dollars in jackpots this year (I'm guessing, I am sure Saint knows the actual number) and let's assume it's an even money game. How many of those people made any donation at all to charity? My GUESS is a very small percentage. Imagine how much further along we would be if an additional Billion dollars worth of research took place each year.

Yea, you can't win a jackpot donating to cancer research, but if you've lost a loved one or know someone who has lost a child to cancer I would hope the jackpot would be that someone you love would still be alive and healthy.

Saint, I realize this won't make sense to you, you and I just think differently. I don't expect anyone to stop buying lottery tickets and start donating to charity. Spend your $2 however you wish. My point is in how people think, they justify their own bad decisions, but if someone above them at work makes a similar decision then they are the devil.

Perspective, that's all.

Please do share your tax return with all of us and your thousands upon thousands to charity. We promise to not share any information with anyone.

And also, Mr. Happy, how much money is wasted in charities people give to that have 70-80% going to Admin fees and salaries? PLENTY!

I am a very charitable person, just do not get your point of "bad decision". Should people donate their spending on sporting event tickets or movie tickets rather than go see in person? Wasted dollars? Entertainment is divided a number of ways for different people. I do not play the lottery very often, but your diatribe over 2 dollars is just so you and your nitpicky anger and unhappiness in life.

You have a better chance of hitting the Powerball than me sharing personal information with you. I'll just say that if you are so inclined, here is a good place to donate to:
https://givetochildrens.org/

They took exceptional care of my daughter.

Would be worth doing some research on who you donate to before donating money. Even if the number is 80% admin fees (which it is not in a decent outfit, not even close) it's still better than the 100% that flies out of your pocket on a lottery ticket.

No, I even said to spend your $2.00 anyway you want. You have missed my original point, which is not uncommon for you as you race around handing out rep points so you can hurry back to give me a red box. Really, that 's how you get off? And I'm the angry one?

Entertainment is divided a number of ways for different people.

I doubt many define the lottery as entertainment. If they do then they are simply bad at math. It's a pipe dream, nothing more. If you find sporting events or movies or whatever entertaining then by all means spend your money there. I enjoy playing craps at the casino and it probably comes as no surprise to you that I know exactly how much I lost playing last year along with how many hours I played. Costs me about $3/hour to play. I find that an acceptable rate for entertainment. Maybe you don't, I don't know. I do know that money I lost playing craps does not exceed what I donate (again, no I will not share personal info with you. Call me a liar if you wish, I really don't care).

HA! If you really thought I was serious about your personal info, you really are nuts. And, me handing out rep points to "race" back to you? Are you SERIOUSLY thinking that and worried about it? Just a little too much into yourself, aren't you?

:mj07: :mj07:

And the fact you know the amount of time to the minute and how much it cost you to gamble means you must have to make sure you don't spend your lunch money so you can eat paycheck to paycheck. Which is probably why your wife won't let you spend a dollar on a lottery chance, since you have to give her an hourly cost of what your gambling fun costs. You are showing your cards, happy guy. And with that, I am done with this wasted time. And, I am sorry it is raining which allowed me to spend this much time writing with you.

Or, it means I keep track, OR it means I can request a win/loss statement via my players card. Neither of those are easily insult-able so you probably didn't bother to think of those options.

PF, it all boils down to one thing.

It's not your money. It's theirs. So they are entitled to spend it on whatever the fuck they want.

In your honor I just donated 2$ to mental health support.

I hope you plan on sharing it with your employees you greedy prick.

Actually, I told the cashier she could have it. I never even looked at my numbers, I just asked her to check my ticket.
