I have a smith and wesson .40. I shoot it about every month and I love it.

I believe I bought it for about $350 or so.

I did this a few years ago:

It is not cost effective, but neither is gambling unless you win.

Kick in (semi)-proff doors

I would guess anyone that thinks they are safe at night (or day) with their standard front-back door, dead-bolted, with the alarm on and screen door locked is safe? Not: the average 13 year old could kick in your door-jam without dislocating a shoulder.

Companies out there that will re-do door jams to give you time when the first alarm is rung. (No door is impenatrable)

The difference between immediate access and 45 seconds is worth it. (alot of wacked out MF'ers out there!)

I still keep a shotgun close to the bed, though. Never know when a Phesant might fly in the window?

Just got my first handgun a couple of months ago ( a Ruger GP 100 .357). I love it.

Soon I'll be getting a Springfield XD 45 to keep it company.

I love guns. I currently own a Ruger .45, Glock 27 (.40 calibur), and a Beretta .25. I go to the range as much as possible and I dare someone to try and home invade me.:SIB

I have wanted to get a handgun for some time, or a shotgun, I guess.

Not so much for burgularly protection (we have a doorman in our building :mj07: ) but in case of a diasaster (Katrina, earthquake, someting like that).

No point in having a good emergency earthquake kit if you don't have a gun to protect yourself from less prepared neighbors. :nono:

Obviously the police and gov't won't be able to help us if things really hit the fan.

I have one, and my wife keeps it handy in the bedroom. 9mm Beretta. She's a better pistol shot than I am.

If good enough for James Bond good enough for me :)

Seriously --aside from being excellent gun--has very stiff slide. You can keep it in house -loaded without round chambered--and if child found it-would be next to impossible for him to chamber round-flip side quite difficult for some women also-which could be negative in your situation.

Based on how often I stagger home drunk, the presence of a gun would guarantee death. I can barely survive the corner of the coffee table.

Hell I don't know
No..........just for the house. CCW is available to me but I don't need that.

Why buy a gun for protection and not carry it with you?
I recommend buying a handgun, take a saftey course, practice with hundreds of rounds, keep it clean, and carry it at all times.

You can get a .380 that clips inside of your pocket like a pocket knife and a majority of the public will never know you have it. The .380 is a good round which will penetrate a windshield.

Let us know what firearm you decide on :SIB

I've got a few in the house. I actually don't really prefer handguns though. If something is going to go wrong with a firearm in the house, it's likely going to be happening with the handgun.

I keep a few shotguns and rifles around the place here. Makes me feel a little safer with the rifle than with a pistol.
For example, say two guys climb in my house and I whack one of them with a chest shot and take him down, while I am stomping his head in, the other guy may jump back out the door/window and take off down the street. With a pistol, I've only got a few precious seconds to jump out the door after him and try to catch him running down the block. With a rifle, I can stroll over to the door and give him a 3 block headstart and then pick him off without having to rush things.

Handguns are too easy to lose control with. You start wrestling around or some sh*t with one, you are more likely to be shot with it yourself then with a rifle/shotgun.
With a rifle you can also butt stroke a dummy with it too.

Pistol = gangster cool look
Rifle = multiple methods of attack and less risk to harming yourself.

No gun here. I have 2 small boys of 2 years and 6 months respectively. There have never been any accidental shootings involving children at a home without guns;)

I drink heavily on regular occasion. Less often now than a couple of years back before I had children. Many a night, I have fumbled around the house when I got home not having much of a clue as to what's going on around me. I would likely be dead by now had I been one to own a gun
