These articles are like stories of lottery winners. We should all run out and by quick-picks because we might be that winner, and we should all arm ourselves because we might just be that victim too.

To each their own, Scott. Just don't be fooled into thinking your odds of being a hero are any better than the lottery.

its better to have a gun and not need it,

than to need a gun and not have it.

Do you believe you could actually pull the trigger? Don't know your background and different people react to different circumstances. I don't doubt I could if my family was threatened but there are a lot of other situations. I don't have a hand gun in the house.

Being a hero has nothing to do with it.

Its called being a survivor

My training and background with guns would allow me to do it if it was my family.

The thing that this guy in the article did right, was he came out with his gun firing. He caught them offguard.

One big rule in the streets, is if you pull out a gun , don't be half steppin. If you hesitate the gun will more than likely be taken away and used against you.

And of course that brings up the point is that if you do pull the gun out, you better be damn sure the situation warrants it.

Right, but you are dealing with a scenario that is very remote. I guess if a person chose not to take the 1 in a million risk of a crash by not stepping on an airplane they could call themself a survior too.

Damn good point! Saw a guy in a Bar 30 years ago pull a pistol out and point it at another guy. The other guy took it away from him and with no struggle and beat the crap out of him.
Will always remember that.. If you pull a gun out you better be ready to use!

Also have a story of a guy pulling a knife on me but that's another day.

A person chance of getting many of diseases we are are vaccinated against in our lifetimes would be about an equall risk of lottery alsp- yet we do--why

what some apparently fail to comprehend in wieghing odds of occurances of events is the consequences of the risk.

IMO not hitting lottery and watching my family die do to my inabilty to protect them --are far from equal.

LSU students killed in home invasion, police sayStory Highlights

(CNN) -- Two graduate students were found shot to death Thursday night in an apartment on the edge of the Louisiana State University campus, a spokeswoman for the school said.

Louisiana State University police officer Stephen Kozusky secures the crime scene.

1 of 2 No suspects have been identified in what police are investigating as a double homicide, LSU spokeswoman Kristine Calongne said.

The bodies of Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma and Kiran Kumar Allam, both Ph.D. candidates from India, were found inside an apartment of the Edward Gay Complex. The complex is near the LSU band's practice field, Calongne said.

Campus police are investigating, along with the Baton Rouge Police Department, she added.

Emergency text messages were sent out to students and faculty across the LSU campus late Thursday, but the campus remained open on Friday.

People were warned in the text messages to use caution, but not all students received them, the university said in a statement posted Friday on its Web site. LSU is working to resolve the problem "rapidly," the school said.

No lockdown of the dormitories was ordered, according to Calongne.

The Associated Press reported that Allam's pregnant wife found the bodies and called 911.

The victims appear to have been shot in the head during a home invasion robbery. Investigators are looking for three men who were seen leaving the area, the AP reported.

Developer shot dead at Midtown home

By S.A. REID
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Published on: 12/16/07

An Atlanta developer was fatally shot Sunday in his Midtown home in what was described as a home invasion robbery, police said.

Bryon D. Washington, chief executive officer of Ravenwood Development Co. Inc., was killed about 5 a.m. at 1717 Monroe Drive, Atlanta police confirmed. He was 47.

The shooter has been identified, but no charges had been filed as of Sunday afternoon, authorities said. The investigation was continuing. No further details on the shooting were available.

Ravenwood Development has built in Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward, the Martin Luther King Jr. historic district and the Virginia-Highland neighborhood.

The company's most recent projects include Bishops Row, 513 Edgewood Ave. and the planned 629 Boulevard, according to the firm's Web site.

Linda Freeman-Allen, a realty sales team member, said she was shocked by Washington's death and described him as a "wonderful guy and great businessman."
