I seldom ever give money to the beggars and have always thought about tossing the current section of the WANT ADS in the local paper to those who do it by highway intersections especially if they have a "WILL WORK FOR FOOD" sign.....Why don't they at least get a white background on their signs? No one can read those cardboard boxes with BLACK on them..........I have lent money to more than more than one barfly in my life with seldom gettng it back and one in particular stand out.........I had lent him $10 and about 4 years later he asked for another 10. i said,"Ray you still owe me $10 from years ago. Why on earth would I give you $10 more?" His reply, "I can remember $20 better than I can $10."

I would have given him a $10 spot just for the clever come back. Maybe its because Ive never really had it rough, besides self imposed shit in college and law school, but I find people who are so consumed by money and who paid for what and how much you owe, really are missing out on the real happiness of life. I get it money makes it a whole lot fucking easier, but it also creates a lot of stress.

Yep, do it all the time if they aren't aggressive about it.

I DO NOT give to the fuckers ringing the bell in front of the stores at Christmas time or asking at the registers at the stores.

That was my calm reply, you want my real take on the situation?

I really do understand people's take on not giving to people on the street, while I disagree I understand.

How bout this Hedgy? You know right now Bigs knows a family who is hurting would you give to them $20 or $50?

We live in a small town so seeing that around here or even within 25 miles is rare and when I do see it I tend not to. Although we do have a friend who was injured and I have donated to his cause. He was 21, fell down the steps and now has a Traumatic Brain Injury. He will never bee the same. This month is their one month anniversary and the whole town has supported this family with anything from food, money, helping pay their bills, gas, travel expenses. Maybe when I know the money is going to go for something good I am more prone to do it.

His facebook page is Team Taylor if you are interested in reading his story. The family is amazing and the support from our town is more than anyone could have ever expected.

I have never given a bum a dime, they should go to work and get off alcohol and drugs, I am not going to help enable them

I have given a few people at my office money when they have lost family members and needed money for their family or funeral, etc...:shrug:

Where it is real F ing COLD
A lot of people who are homeless or beggers, are alcoholics but many of those people suffer from a mental illness such as depression, bi polar etc. There were many who were Vets (Vietnam, Korea) who were kicked to the curb, many of those people are dying off now, there are a select few that do it as an occupation but that one guy in Vegas wasn't going to get no job, he was old, double amputee in a w/c, Could tell he wasn't an alcoholic either

You really didn't have to answer

:mj07::mj07::mj07:

I do, but agree with Jack, never outside grocery stores or when they ask at a register. We give plenty as it is, to local groups we know where it goes, like Animal Rescues.

Just the opposite here as I will give to the local Organizations and others such as the Red Cross and Good Will. But I will not donate my hard earned money to the individual standing on the side of the road looking for his next bottle of MD 20/20. Same individuals on the same corner day after day. No thanks

Years ago i donated to the salvation army on an annual basis. It's one of the top charities based on the money going to the people. I quit when the local chapter's captain and some helper pilfered the christmas collection money. Neither spent jail time....now i give to the jimmy v fund when local friends or their relatives pass away from cancer.....

Really, that is sad and it pisses me off as we see so much of the same shit go on with all of these charities. I give to the Salvation Army often. There is one about a mile away from our place so when we need to clear out the place of old clothes, electronics, etc. we give to Salvation Army. Even once donated them a car for a tax write off.
