I have no issue with being fearful of them or not wanting to be in their company. It was the compassion statement, that has since be retracked that got me upset. It was like you were saying you didnt give a shit if they were abused or tortured cause they were Pit Bulls & they MIGHT be dangerous to you.

NOW I am going to say something that might irk some folks or head into dangerous waters...but in no way are my comments meant to be racist.....

Now it has been proven by gov't statistics that African-Americans are responsible for ~60% of all murders in the US, despite making up only ~12% of the population,

You could take that even further & say ~58.5% of all murders are by black males despite being only 5% of the population.

WoW. :com:

Now it has been proven by stats that Pit Bulls are the most likey of all dog breeds to attack, bite or kill humans, by a somewhat substantial margin.

According to a few sources dog ownership webistes & newspapers it is said African-Americans make up about anywhere from 80%-88% of Pit Bull owners. No one can be exactly sure of the actual #.

Now the ? is......is there a correlation to be made here?

Without offending anyone, I believe there is at least something to this...Dogs are a product of thier owners & how their owners breed them. Pit Bulls have been around for a long long time at least since the 1880's, only in the past 30 years since their introduction & popularity into American inner cities have they become the 'violent fighting' dog as it has been breed into them in that time to be 'ULTRA dog & people aggresive by their presumably African-American owners.

I dont know how valid this is or if its completely off base. Just throwin it out there for debate. All I do know is it is not the fault of the dog. They are a product of what we have made them to be in our modern society. :com:

A fitting quote to import here is from Ghandi:

"The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated"

**I AM NOT RACIST** so please spare me the comments. :nono:

What is a menacing dog?

The Dog Control Act 1996 now contains a classification of dogs known as "menacing" dogs.

A menacing dog is one that has been classified as menacing by a territorial authority. A territorial authority may classify a dog as menacing because it is of a particular breed/type, or because of aggressive behaviour.

The Council must classify as menacing all dogs it believes are of a breed/type listed in schedule 4 of the Act.

These breeds/types are: American Pit Bull Terrier, Dogo Argentino, Brazilian Fila and Japanese Tosa.

The Council may also classify a dog of any breed as menacing where on the basis of its aggressive behaviour, it is considered to pose a threat to people or other animals.

If a council classifies a dog as menacing, the dog must be muzzled when in public and the dog is required to be neutered. The owner of a menacing dog is also required to advise any other person who may have possession of the dog of the need to muzzle the dog.

I am obviously a huge animal lover but I still have an uneasy feeling around the pit bulls:scared But this is because of the idiot humans that raise them. I owned a Chow for over 10 years, one of these supposedly bad mean breeds, and he was the biggest baby in the world, even let my young nephews chase him around and pull on his long hair, BUT I raised him as a pet and not as an attack dog and the only thing he even growled at was cats because they would constantly tease him over my fence.

ok sorry but didnt read whole thread.

I whole heartily agree with Jack,,,,,,and no ass kissing here.

My question is do u leave your infant in ayard with a pitbull to guard them or Pomeranian(spelling)

drunk again

The key word here is innate(spelling)

which means in the genes.

pitbulls have it , no matter the training or the owner they are natural born hunters or killers. period.

just like dolphins do not need to be trained to do a flip.

i have seen it in the wild, u just need Pavlov's bell experiment to bring it out.

ring the bell the dog salivates.

snap your fingers the dolphin flips.

look at Seirgrand and Fraud , even the tigers turned on them with all the training and love u could give an animal.

bottom line is they love to fight or kill or hunt or whatever .....it is in their blood.

domesticated or not......

PITBULLS are a bad breed ,,, will not trust them will not own them willnot ever love them .

KILL THEM ALL.

Funny you should say that...seeing as a Pomerainin killed an infant in 2000:

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- A small Pomeranian dog killed a 6-week-old baby while the infant's caretaker briefly left the child unattended to warm a bottle of milk, authorities in Los Angeles said.

The relative, who was caring for the infant girl, found her head buried in the dog's mouth Saturday night, sheriff's Deputy Cruz Solis said. The girl died of head trauma at an area hospital, he said.

The baby's name was withheld because her parents were out of the country and had not been notified, Solis said.

The relative has not been charged. Animal control officers took the dog.

Temperament

The official AKC breed description says "Sweetness of temperament is the hallmark of the Newfoundland; this is the most important single characteristic of the breed." They are nicknamed the "Gentle Giant" and "Nature's babysitter." They are protective of children.

Relative to other breeds, Newfoundland puppies, especially older puppies, tend to be calm. Newfoundlands take up to three years to reach full maturity. They have deep barks, and are excellent guard dogs. They have been known to grieve when separated from their families. Their large size makes them difficult to keep in many living situations, but since they are not very active, as long as the room they lie down in is big, they won't really move too much and just stay there for long periods of time. They do not move around in the house too much, though they tend to spread out and cover large areas of space. Exercise is great for Newfs, although they would be quite content to sit at home for long periods of time as long as they know that there is someone there to love them. A Newfoundland will know whether or not someone is at home and as long as someone is with them, they are quite content, but if there is no one home, a Newfoundland dog will actually appear to be sad and sit and wait for you to return home, even stare out the window while waiting for his family to return.

How is the Newfoundland with children?
The Newf is renowned for his gentleness, protectiveness and love for children. He is tolerant of behavior by children far beyond that which would make other breeds snap or walk away. Because of this he is ideally suited to being a child's companion, but the adult must accept the duty to protect the Newfie from abuse by the child. It is no accident that the Nana in the original Peter Pan was a Newfoundland.

The tranquil nature of the Newfoundland has been found to have such an excellent effect on hyperactive children that there was a clinical study done in the 1970s using Newfoundlands as a part of the therapy.

that's true.

Cmon Jack you think if you owned a Pitbull from a puppy its gonna be some crazed dog? it would be just as nice as your other dogs. When i walk down the street and see a Pit Bull on the other side do i worry a little? Sure but that is because of horror stories we hear about because of whackjobs raising animals.

Hell I don't know
Padre.... I don't leave my infant anywhere with anything or anybody guarding him except for a very few people which I trust. I don't take my attention away from my 2 year old for 10 seconds. I even moniter him while he sleeps. So no I wouldn't leave him with a pitt to guard him. Thats my job. :SIB But good thread I have enjoyed it :SIB

I was just making a point, I guess maybe i have been a little on tilt these last few days, I hope u guys know that I would never leave my child alone, either. And as I made an ass of myself in another thread , I would never hit my child in public, hell i dont think i could bring myself to ever hit my child. he is 3.5 years now.....Just have not been working for several weeks now. Work in San Diego is really slow. But anyway I hope some people didnt take things too seriously, and did find some humor in this thread.

thanks to all that understand.
