I did something similar with a customer once. She called me on my cell phone on a Friday night saying that one of the workers damaged the new solid surface shower that was installed as part of her remodel. She said if you get down on your hands and knees and look real close that you can see a scratch and some discoloring. It sounded like she was inspecting with a magnifying glass. I understand when people pay good money they expect a good product with no damage, but this was sounding pretty nit-picky. I've done work for them before and they are very particular. Well I got off the phone and started a rant to my wife. (She is friends and works with them, that's how I got the job) My rant was pretty harsh, similar to Jack's. He called me the next day and said it was all recorded on their answering machine. I don't know if I didn't hang my phone up or butt dialed them back or what happened. As it turns out, they really did have an issue and I took care of it. We are still friends and I'm still doing work for them. They are always doing some kind of remodeling. It's still embarrassing though.

Sorry to hear this brother. I know the feeling. The worst is when they act like everything is fucking included. Last week I had people hold my check because their furniture was still in the garage, they wanted transition strips and new trim put in, I said sure we can do that. I will have to work up a cost for you but we can do it, would you like me to do that?

Yes, that would be great.

I hand them the separate bid for trim, transition strips and moving a household overstuffed with antique furniture. She sets it on the counter. Five days later she is asking me when I am going to come back and do the transition strips and furniture. I respond, "Oh did you want us to do that as well?"

"Well, yeah, isn't it included? We can't lift all that furniture." The husband then proceeds to tell me that there is "day labor available not five blocks away and I should just hire a couple of them and be done in two hours or so",

I couldn't believe it. I asked how their furniture became my responsibility and they answered that I moved it out, which I did because they didn't do it as asked and as written on the contract, and then played dumb like they never got the bid for furniture, trim and transition strips.

Now I am very clear about what is expected. Last floor I did I called and said, "We will be sealing your patio tomorrow, we will need to settle up at that time so please either meet me there and approve the final color or go by tonight or whatever, I don't care, just make sure there is a check there when I arrive or I won't seal it. It sounds fucked up I know, but most have no idea how many people try everything they can to fuck you out of the money they owe you.

When I hear you and Jack tell stories about things like this it makes me realize why our contractor for the kitchen did what he did.

It was a major job, gut current kitchen completely, move doorways, new electric, etc... Every time he would start another part he would repeat what he was doing to us 5 or 6 times along with how much it was costing and kept asking for partial payments along the way as work got completed. I really felt like he didn't trust us and now I know he probably didn't.

He did an exceptional job and (IMO) was worth every penny we paid him. He's coming back to do more work when his schedule lightens up. I guess people probably try to pinch every penny and he just wants to be clear. Too bad.

Oh man! I am shaking.

I was talking, well texting, with one of my installers about a customer we have that is being very difficult. I copied a text that the wife sent me and sent it to him. Then I said to him, "Fuck those people, they picked that floor, you hit it perfectly with the color and they are going to take it like it is. Fuck them!"

I made a mistake and sent it to the homeowner.

HOLY SHIT, I'M IN BIG TROUBLE WITH THESE PEOPLE NOW.

How the hell am I going to smooth THAT over?Christ, I'm shaking here and scared that my phone is going to beep any second.

Never talk behind someone's back, especially if they are holding a lot of your money. :nono:

Today's the drinking day on the diet - amirite?

Sucks it was a customer. You have to be so careful texting. I have sent several to the wrong individual. Like the one meant for my wife that went to my brother. " I need to see your tits"
