Best trip I ever took was Quebec City then Acadia national park in Maine. Quebec City felt like we were in Europe. Lots to do. Awesome little shops.
Then we drove to Acadia and had some fresh lobster. Two nights camping and the beach. Maine is the most beautiful place I have ever been.
If its just a weekend I'd say Quebec City. Montreal is also pretty sweet.

Shit. I think you need a passport now for Canada.

Met my wife in Quebec City & absolutely love going there....But don't think a weekend is enough time to explore that great city....

Jack, I think a perfect trip for them would be Toronto....They may even be able to drive there....

I shit canned this idea and giving her cash.

Thanks for the replies.

She's level headed and frugal and will probably put it into savings.

Okay.

Passport for entry to Mexico was not required when I was in college. Valid state issued ID is what I sued to use on our runs across the border in the early 90s.

Last time I went to Playa del Carmen things had changed.....

Life, imo, is about making memories and enjoying the journey. While a gas card is clearly the most practical idea in the thread, I feel life is too damn short. He/she typically only graduate once, so I say take a trip. I used to travel all over the damn place before kids, and everyone told me enjoy it while it lasts cuz marriage and kids will put an end to that. Those practical sorts were wrong, at least in my case. My 6yo and 8yo have been to Hawaii twice, Spain, Houston and Atlanta for baseball games, Disney 4 times and countless beach trips. Would I have larger savings account had I held off on these trips? Sure, but the opportunity to make memories is something that money cannot buy.

Lately, several things have occurred which have made me realize how short, and seemingly unfair, life can be. A friend of mine died this weekend in his sleep at 43.... probably heart attack. He left behind three kids 10 and under. Another friend of mine died at 45 last month of cancer leaving behind 2 young kids. Another 40yo friend of mine was diagnosed with colorectal cancer 3 months ago and is thankfully doing great in his treatment. He also has 2 kids 11 and under. Yet another 42yo friend of mine was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer a few months ago. He, too, has 2 young kids. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed late, thus his prospects aren't what you would hope for.

Congrats on the graduation of your daughter and her boyfriend. Wishing them both all good things:0074

Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.

Sounds weird, but it was like being in Europe without crossing the big pond. Most signage is French, old cobblestone streets and cottages, great food, interesting locals ....just a very cool place to hang , drink wine on a terrace, see museums, local music scene, and drink more wine.

Great idea here. Montreal is great; my 2nd favorite North American city to San Francisco. yes, plenty of French speakers there, but half the city is English speaking and everyone knows some English. Still requires a passport, though, and it sounds as if they don't have one.

1000 dollars for a trip? Vermont is very nice; mountains and brew pubs all over the state plus the natives are almost as friendly as us Iowans.
They can drop in and say hello to my family in tiny Wells, Vermont. I'll let them know your kid is coming; free ice cream or donuts at my sister-in-law's general store....:toast:

That wouldn't be the Country Store by chance.....

Indeed it is. The Wells Country Store. Juli(sister-in-law) owns it, Joni(ditto) works there and my F.I.L. Al helps out when needed. Right in the heart of downtown Wells, you can't miss it...:142smilie

Lots of tourists stop there as its not far from Lake Catherine.

you been there before, Terry?
