Nick,
You continually remind me of a college sophomore who dutifully reads his assignments, and then spouts his rhetoric to the "uneducated" whom he walks among off campus, as if only he were privy to what the world was about.
You know I am just a working class, blue collar, kind of guy. No.....I don't have a post high school degree in fine arts, psychology, the sciences, etc. Maybe that's one of the reasons you can feel at ease to look down on me, and those like me. But, by the same token, I don't need to be a scatologist to recognize shit when I see it, either.
Most of what you write here has more than a "hint" of the "I'm better than you" feel. If you think that is just me talking, take a straw poll. Your ego might just take a hit. You can back peddle all night, but anyone who reads your reply to timbo knows exactly what you intended.
--------
"You have to pay attention and have at least moderate intelligence to appreciate this film."
--------
So, if that is not an indictment on someone who didn't like the movie, it is, at best, another affirmation by you to your underlying theme of intellectual superiority over the minions of the forum.
You can think my opinions 'lack credibility', but at least they are genuine. They are my opinions. You continue to swim in the flavor-of-the-day pool, and do what you think will get you the most 'style points' with whatever crowd you are trying to swing with.
-------
As far as you calling me, "full of myself," I plead guilty as charged to that when it comes to movies. I am a writer and I left a damn high paying and respected job to start at the bottom of the entertainment industry reading scripts, running for coffee, getting lunches, etc. because working in film is what I want to do for a living. Don't you think someone who makes those sacrifices in the pursuit of a career in movies is going to feel they know more about them than the average j-brone who merely plunks down $9.75 (to answer anywaves' question) every Friday night?
-------
Again.....it's all about you.
So, because you fetch a sandwich, and plunder through some prose, that makes your view more credible than other movie goers? You sound like a roadie who thinks he's part of the band! Guess what? There are people out there who can play the guitar, but ain't in a band, and don't want to be!
In short, you are entitled to think you know more about cinamatic exploits, but that don't make it so.
I'm a writer, too, Nick. I write things. Big whoop. You have the desire to run after your dream, and god willing, you will acheive success at what you want. I think the So Cal lifestyle will suit you just fine, as your attitude has fit the situation for quite some time.
I'll give you a little free 'working class' advice.
"You don't need to start at the bottom. That's just what they teach you in college."
Knock a little harder on the door, stand a little taller, and some lackey might be bringing you a sandwich tomorrow..........
