On the course!
Nick,

You continually remind me of a college sophomore who dutifully reads his assignments, and then spouts his rhetoric to the "uneducated" whom he walks among off campus, as if only he were privy to what the world was about.

You know I am just a working class, blue collar, kind of guy. No.....I don't have a post high school degree in fine arts, psychology, the sciences, etc. Maybe that's one of the reasons you can feel at ease to look down on me, and those like me. But, by the same token, I don't need to be a scatologist to recognize shit when I see it, either.

Most of what you write here has more than a "hint" of the "I'm better than you" feel. If you think that is just me talking, take a straw poll. Your ego might just take a hit. You can back peddle all night, but anyone who reads your reply to timbo knows exactly what you intended.

--------
"You have to pay attention and have at least moderate intelligence to appreciate this film."
--------

So, if that is not an indictment on someone who didn't like the movie, it is, at best, another affirmation by you to your underlying theme of intellectual superiority over the minions of the forum.

You can think my opinions 'lack credibility', but at least they are genuine. They are my opinions. You continue to swim in the flavor-of-the-day pool, and do what you think will get you the most 'style points' with whatever crowd you are trying to swing with.

-------
As far as you calling me, "full of myself," I plead guilty as charged to that when it comes to movies. I am a writer and I left a damn high paying and respected job to start at the bottom of the entertainment industry reading scripts, running for coffee, getting lunches, etc. because working in film is what I want to do for a living. Don't you think someone who makes those sacrifices in the pursuit of a career in movies is going to feel they know more about them than the average j-brone who merely plunks down $9.75 (to answer anywaves' question) every Friday night?
-------

Again.....it's all about you.

So, because you fetch a sandwich, and plunder through some prose, that makes your view more credible than other movie goers? You sound like a roadie who thinks he's part of the band! Guess what? There are people out there who can play the guitar, but ain't in a band, and don't want to be!

In short, you are entitled to think you know more about cinamatic exploits, but that don't make it so.

I'm a writer, too, Nick. I write things. Big whoop. You have the desire to run after your dream, and god willing, you will acheive success at what you want. I think the So Cal lifestyle will suit you just fine, as your attitude has fit the situation for quite some time.

I'll give you a little free 'working class' advice.

"You don't need to start at the bottom. That's just what they teach you in college."

Knock a little harder on the door, stand a little taller, and some lackey might be bringing you a sandwich tomorrow..........

yyz,

The interesting thing is how close we really are even though we may be oceans apart on the subject of humility. You call yourself "working class" and I would put myself in that category as well. The reason I say that is when you talk to me, what you see is what you get. I am not an arrogant, dishonest, conniving, political or untrustworthy person who puts on a humble, honest, forthright, outspoken or trusting face to the people I meet. Like you, I call it like I see it because I know that, agree or disagree, people will respect you if you are "real" with them.

I've been called arrogant many times and when it comes to certain things in life, I probably have to agree. You have to have a certain amount of arrogance to believe that you can succeed in areas like writing and, for that matter, handicapping, where most people fail. It has nothing to do with a college degree or any other credential, it is just an internal belief in yourself.

Look at any of the sharp handicappers on this site like IE, kosar, goldcupsports, kcwolf or Britsih Bulldog. Trust me if you were able to somehow open a window into their psyche you would see a person who has supreme arrogance when it comes to their opinion of their handicapping ability.

Not to answer for yyz because believe me I aint doing that.

The type of arrogance you are describing above most people have no trouble understanding or accepting.

The one that gets most arrogant people in trouble is the one where they believe they are better than another person for whatever reason. It is a humility issue.

You probably wont answer any of these but I am giving you some good choices.

The answer to the above is no they just get paid is the only differance. Very few movie critics make much money.

The movie brings up issues about genetic experimentation, the misuse of scientific research and our instinctive dislike of misfits, and actually talks about them.

Just as well, too, because the Hulk himself is the least successful element in the film. He's convincing in closeup but sort of jerky in long shot--oddly, just like his spiritual cousin, King Kong. There are times when his movements subtly resemble the stop-frame animation used to create Kong, and I wonder if that's deliberate; there was a kind of eerie oddness about Kong's movement that was creepier than the slick smoothness of modern computer-generated creatures.

Rate "The Hulk":
Good 54% 1578
Bad 39% 844
Wait to rent 7% 493

Total Votes 2915

Rating = IT SUCKS!

HULK - REVIEW

"The Hulk." It's a psychological drama. A long long one.

Plenty of people will think "Hulk," based on the Marvel Comics and costing $120 million to make, is a miss. At times it can seem as lumbering as its lead character is, well, hulky. And many pure fans of the comic book will likely turn angry-as-Hulk over liberties the director has taken with his storyline.
(though your friends may argue that the compter-generated images still look fake).

"Hulk" is, basically, a two-hour psychological couch session for its title character (there's a lot of emotional upheaval involving the big guy's dad). Plus the movie's got an additional 18 minutes or so of full-on fun special-effects action. (Warning to parents: The Hulk's lack of anger management -- especially his first roars and full-screen mad-as-hell face can frighten wee ones).

The plot is as much a hand-wringing downer about what made Bruce Banner have such a sad, blue heart as it is about the genesis of the genetic alterations that give him such a Herculean, green body when his brain switches on the anger button. As usual, it's all mommy and daddy's fault.

Mentally, the "Hulk" is sort of a cross between "Frankenstein" and, say, Ingmar Bergman's "The Seventh Seal." There's much brooding and sadness and angst and, darn it, if Jennifer Connelly (who plays Banner's lab partner and sweetie) doesn't cry over and over.

and Nick Nolte as Bruce's deranged dad (sporting the same hairdo in Nolte's now infamous real-life police mug) to provide the film's only acting muscle. They do well, especially Nolte, until he dives off the mental high board near movie's end."

Critics for the most part don't mean much to me. They are not in the movie business, they merely observe the movie business. Some do a great job but most don't. I think Variety for the most part is a good place to go for reviews and sometimes Roger Ebert as well.

The only thing that made timbo sound like a dullard was asserting that anyone responding favorably to this movie had to have an alterior motive. If he didn't like the movie, that is his opinion, not a reflection on his intelligence. What is a reflection on his intelligence is making such an obviously stupid statement.

HULK - REVIEW

"Unfortunately, waiting so long for Bruce to explode and become the monstrous Hulk became excruciatingly frustrating to me. Unlike Spider-Man, my favorite film about a comic book hero, Hulk gives viewers too much scientific exposition before getting into the action. How many microscope slides, split screen images, and shots of reptiles are necessary to put a point across?

I apologize to myself for almost walking out of this movie during its unexciting first half. "
