If you lived your entire life, and were never exposed to any religious indoctrination, how idiotic would the mere suggestion of this nonsense sound to you?


At some point in your early developmental years, you realized Santa is a myth. At that point, you start to backtrack and see all the ridiculous things you should have seen all along. Yet, you will SOMEHOW, cling to some glimmer of hope that a 'god' exists, even though the same unrealistic scenarios have been paraded in front of you over, and over.

You realized long ago, that Santa couldn't possibly go to every house in the world in one night, yet you still believe that 'god' can see and hear every person on Earth 24 hours a day? So, on, and so forth.


The dumbest thing about religion though, is that we keep thinking that arguing about it will change others' minds.

Don't worry about not being able to explain the theories, they can't either. Makes a woman coming from a rib seem believable. If "something" is a "thing" than it has to be an "entity"

I don't believe that it ends here and Im not sure if the next life will be better or worse, but it will be as believable as this life and it won't end

Fekkler did a good job responding to this - perhaps better than I.

I think my major point I'd like to get across is that if Christianity is correct - if the Bible is correct - if the instructions for Christians are the words of Jesus Christ... then many Christians in the United States will be very surprised when our rapture or judgement day occurs. We have selectively ignored many of Jesus' own words. We are greedy, violent, and judgemental. Most Christians I have met don't seem to have a problem with this. We promote materialism and war, and judge poor people, foreigners, strangers etc. Jesus clearly despises this.

That said - yeah I want my material things, no I don't want to give it all to poor people, and yes I'd rather we go to war than lose our global strength. But I do know for a fact that this is in opposition to what Jesus has commanded. It's as plain as the words on paper. We all fall short of the glory. :0008

Do you remember the game you used to play as a child where 10 people would stand shoulder to shoulder and the first person would whisper a saying into the second persons ear and so on until it reached the last person? I don't remember what it was called. By the time it reached the 10th person most of the time it wasn't the original statement that the first person said. I think that's the way the bible was written. Story after story being passed down each person adding their own little sentiment to it to make the story "better." It happens every day. People love to gossip and until the 10th person passes the gossip on a person with a papercut has had a leg amputated. Embelishment and manipulation to make the story so believeable it has to be true.

If you ever hiked the rocky mountains and saw the aw struck wonder, you would at least believe in a higher power. This world and universe is of a power much larger than any one person. How can one person understand the wonders of either? There are arguments to suggest disbelief or belief in God. I truly believe there is a superior force, and purpose beyond the people that pass through this life. With absolution no one can explain it because this will happen after this life time. I believe in a higher power, I am going with this theory :0008

This is almost impossible to answer because it is so hypothetical. For instance, what would you do if Jesus visited you and contradicted a handful of the rules you had been following all this time, basically saying things like "nope, gay marriage is cool"
Would you completely change your viewpoint?

As for my answer, if Jesus, as presented in the bible approached me and said ""I am the way, the truth and the life" I would ask for clarification. However, I need more than a vague 9 word phrase to really understand. So assuming he was willing to engage in a detailed conversation about the human experience and exactly what he expects of us, then I might be on board.
Faith in God is something I could muster, under the right circumstances. It's faith in 2000 year of human history that I have a problem with.
I'm sure he would understand.

What if Jesus showed up, and he was actually Arab, as you might expect a person of the area he came from to look like, and not the California surfer dude of the 60's we have all come to know and love?
