Free will/choice? Having several million dollars and deciding between Malibu or La Jolla to live is free choice. NOT what the bible asks of you. Sorry.

I am not a athiest as that would mean a convinced belief for there is nothing after. I guess my 'belief' is closer to a Gnostic or deist point of view.

Bobby, I can't explain Hawking, et al. theories on evolution of man. I do know that most scientists (something like 90%) do not believe in God. You say how do you make something from nothing. Why do you think there was a starting point? Furthermore, why do you theorize that some entity created the initial "something". To your point, how can you believe something lasts forever when the evidence is that all things cease to exist at some point. I personally think that believing in a creator is easier than facing the fact that everything dies.

With regard to religion, I recently read that Salmon Rushdie, the author of Satanic Verses, who based upon his writings, had a fatwa issued against him by some Islamic leader. Therefore 2 billion moslems are out hunting this guy down. Anyway he came out with another book entitled "Fuck Buddha". That oughta get this thread heading for the trash heap. See, even this thread must die.

Seems simple to me. The bible says so.

Genesis 1:1-5 ~ " In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said , Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day."

Do atheists believe we have souls?

I can't answer for all atheists but a soul is just as fake as the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy, so no I do not believe anybody has a soul.

But that is just my opinion.

My thoughts....A soul doesn't exist, thus nobody can have something that doesn't exist.

I guess we could get really complicated and say I do believe in a soul if one is talking about ones soul. Meaning if somebody says "She is a kind soul", in that sense I guess I believe. But when talking about it in a religious sense then no.

The word soul has many meanings and to further complicate things different religions have different meanings for the soul.

Do atheists believe in miracles?

In a religious sense, no.

But one can use the word "miracle" and not think it has anything to do with any god.

In other words if something can't be explained it doesn't mean some dude in the sky had anything to do with it.

It seems like I'm hearing that science has explained away God. And I'm also hearing that there is no God because we CAN'T explain certain things. Science is interesting to me. Some people trust in science because it provides "facts". Until they find out the world ISN'T flat and then there are NEW facts to "believe in."

Very interesting to me.

I also think I'm hearing that there is no God because people sin in this country by not following Christian values. How does the fact that people are bad to each other prove there is no God?

I still don't follow that one.

Thanks again to everyone for sharing their thoughts. :00hour

It's scientifically impossible for science to disprove God. It can't be done.
