mcity, Thank's. See I thought this is what Madjack's is all about. I appreciate your opinion, even if we differ on the fixed issue on this particular game. I also appreciate you identifying with the fact it is a brutal loss whether it's fixed or not. Obviously you have been there and I thank you for the positive input. Michaeljbird

no long speech about fixing games nfl, college, baseball or whatever even boxing. it doesn't happen, what would be the reason and who would be the ones doing it, maybe mafia , so called wise guys, maybe pete , mcpheason (florida state), maybe even the vegas books, like they need $$$$ games like this happen maybe not on a weekly/monthly/yearly basis in professional sports but always in college/ highschools/youth. anyways i lost tonight i thought tampa bay was the best bet and would play them again tommarrow same bet no offense to the indy backers , did have the over though. hope no one is offended by my remarks and good luck to all in the coming weeks. thanks flag

Let's think for a second...

Let's think for a second...

First off, my condolences to those who lost on tonight's game. It was brutal, bizarre, horribly officiated, call it what you will. But I can't see how you can think it was fixed.

For one: How many people would be required to fix this game? Ok, you can make an argument for the officials, in particular what they did at the end with the "leap". That was bizarre. But were the officials responsible for this game even going to OT?? A HELL of a LOT happened in between 4:00 and 0:00...much/most of it not involving the officials. Those officials must have been sh!tting bricks when there were only 4 minutes left. How did they get so lucky?? They didn't move the ball downfield 3 times in 4 minutes.

The TB corner must have been in on it to let Harrison haul in that long bomb. Parts of the TB special teams must have been in on it to allow Indy to field that onside kick.

But that one guy, he WASN'T in on it, 'cause he fielded the second onside kick despite getting gang tackled by 8 Colts. He really wanted that ball. Screw that, he was in on the OTHER fix that had Tampa winning.

Honestly though, the best argument I can make...why the HELL, if you were going to fix a game, would you fix a Monday Night Football game, between the Superbowl champs and an undefeated team??? Would you like to get caught? Let's just pick the highest-profile game of the entire week and fix it!!!! WHAT-the-****-ever!! If you're going to fix a game you're going to fix a dud of a game that nobody gives a crap about, not this game.

It was a very strange game and set of circumstances. But I can't believe it was a fix. The refs would have been tilting things Indy's way a LOT earlier in the game than they did. They'd have found a reason to call back TB's final touchdown FOR SURE. Any reason at all. No way they the Bucs go up 3 TD's in a game they are fixing!!! THINK about it.

Great posts by several people here, with many controversial topics. A few toughts:

1. NFL games are not "fixed." Period. There are, however, incredibilty incompetent NFL officials, which also includes officials who have deeper psychological issues and mental problems which come out on full display under the intense pressure of NFL games. I'm convinced ot it.

2. There is a sizable segment of current NFL officials which are bitter and angry at not having won the labor dispute a few years ago. They see everyone around them making milliions, while they make much smaller salaries. This creates discontent. Their intent is to create total chaos at games and show that full-time, high paid officials are necessary. It's in the officials interest to have games with lots of controversy as it keeps the public focused ON THE OFFICIALS and creates a greater impetus to force the NFL to hire full time referees.

2. The NFL has so many unenforceable and bizarre rules, that the game's integrity is seriously in doubt. Every pass is now a possible pass interference call. Every play is possible holding on the offensive line. Every celebration is now possible taunting. Every tough hit is now unnecessary roughness. Every time a quarterback gets hit a second after throwing th eball, it's roughing the passer. Then, there are the "mystery" rules, that vapoprize out of nowhere, that no one has ever heard of, yet somehow surface in the most critical NFL games, things like the "tuck rule." Things like the "leaping rule." The rules of this game are OBSOLETE. The game is much faster and rougher than in year's past. These rules require FAR TOO MUCH INDIVIDUAL JUDGEMENT. Waht's even worse, these officials are KILLING the games!

3. There is no appeal process in NFL officiating. When an official makes an error, there is no way to reverse the process -- except in some instant replay decisions. 95 percent of all calls are not subject to review. Things like the leaping rule are NOT subject to review. My question -- WHY IN THE HELL NOT???

4. There is no accountability for actions and errors. None. No official ever has to explain himself. No official is ever suspended. The league sits with its thumb up its ass in its ivory tower hoping the controversy blows away (and it usually does, thanks to the whore networks which are in bed with the pro sports leagues).

THE SOLUTION:

1. In order for a penalty to be called, at least TWO officails must see the infraction and throw a flag. Not one. But two. So, before giving one team 60 yards on a pass interference penalty, the penalty must be confirmed by TWO witnesses.

2. Station an official in a booth who watches all the plays on TV and allow him (or a committee of officials) to stop the game at anytime and overrule the bumbling blow****s on the field. If Madden and Michaels and 30 million viewers can see a bad call was made, why not use this technology to make the game better and improve the integrity of these calls? Huh? NFL blowhards, are you listening you miserable shitbrains?

3. Simplify NFL rules to allow contact by defenders, some holding by linemen, and other normal behavior which is a natual part of football. Allow defenses to play defense. And allow linemen to protect the quarterback. Pretty god-damned simple concept. And one more thing -- get rid of the insane rules that are brought out of the mothballs from time to time like "tuck" rules and other ridiculous issues that destroy confidence in the integrity of the game.

4. Some specific changes I would make --
a. eliminate the forward progress rule. Where the ball carrier is tackled is where the ball should be placed.
b. to score a TD, the player must be standing or physically land in the end zone with the ball. No ball sticking out and breaking the plane that requires an official standing 80 feet away to make a marginal call. Hit the turn of the end zone and it's a touchdown. That's it.
c. allow cornerbacks to play pass defense. Simple. It's a football game.
d. allow players to talk and taunt each other. These are men playing. It's a game for grown ups. We don't need officials throwing flags and giving 15 yard penalties because a player gets a little over-excited.

I'm sure I can think of something else, but I'm still seething over what I saw tonight.

Nolan,

If the chaos theory is correct, this is very easily beatable. Instantly, the officials would have an unwritten agreement amongst each other. That being, if you are the official adjacent to me, and I throw a flag, you throw one too. "I got your back" would be the norm about 5 minutes after this rule was passed.

Point shaving? Give me a break. if this game was fixed they would NEVER have let the bucs go up 21.

Think about it, if you are fixing a game you DON"t want it to be obvious. You would have the colts lead all the way, or at least be close. There were some AWFUL calls against the colts as well. Did you see the bogus running into the kicker call in OT which almost saved the bucs?

I think the people that lost should sit back and relax and realize that they have been on the winning and losing end of a lot of crazy games in their lives. THey just remember the losing ones more than the winning wins.

If anyone's wondering how games are fixed, just read Nolan's post.

Am I the only one that notices that the NFL will spend billions on building amazing state of the art stadiums, they will spend billions on marketing/advertising, they will spend billions on developing/finding talent, but when it comes to the referees they can't get anyone better than underpayed senior citizens who work part time?

Doesn't anyone else see a problem with the exact points that Nolan brough up? The NFL has incompetent officials, they have discontent officials, there are so many unforceable and undisputable rules, and best of all, get this, like Nolan said, there is no appeal process, and there is no accountability. What a freakin' gift.

So you have old, unhappy referrees making calls using extremely speculative rules which can be interepreted differently by anyone, on top of that, if you, your team, the coach or anyone talks badly about these guys you get a huge fine, and on TOP OF THAT, the NFL won't address these issues themselves.

People think the fix has to include players who are making multi-millions. I don't see any better candidate, and any easier target than the referees. Hell, they control anything that goes on on the field.

To continue this ridiculous (see, I can spell this simple word) post, let's consider a few games that were fixed.

MJB mentioned the fixes at Northwestern. Well, he should go look at the tape of what a fix looks like. One of the games in question came at Iowa. It was a game tight to the pointspread, with Northwestern leading the lame Hawkeyes. Near the end of the game, the running back (I can't remember who he was), inexplicably fumbled near the goalline. The Cats won, but by a lower margin. This was a subtle event that was definitely not evidence of a fix at the time. That's the point of the fix - you don't notice it. It is not intended to be some big show for you to get all emotional about.

Another known fixing incident is the ASU hoops scandal. Take a look at the tapes of those games. Basically, it came down to a few random plays at the end where the conspirators played bad defense or threw the ball out of bounds. They were fixing games with high numbers and still winning outright. You may remember the game that blew their cover, when they opened as like 10 pt favs over Washington and got bet down to 3. At that point, they did not fix, and just won the game, by like 20. Trying to fix a game with a pointspread of 3 would be ridiculous (there's that word again).

I agree that NBA and/or NFL games have "fix"-esque elements in them. These, however, mostly revolve around the officials making bad calls. I have seen some particularly hideous one-sided work in the NBA. The players, however, are not in on this gig. You cannot have a huge conspiracy for a fix. A whole league cannot be fixed. Someone would spill the beans. You think all these guys writing books about steroids have a big story? Imagine if some player who played like 4 years and is now broke decided he needed some money and knew about these large orchestrated fixes. He would just go to a publisher. I agree that NFL officials can influence the outcome of the games, and may have their own (or the league's) personal motives, but the players are 99.99999999999% of the time not involved.

If you look at the game last night, the officiating was fairly brutal all the way. There were MANY bad calls against the Colts. Including a defensive HOLDING call on the line on a punt in the first half with them already getting spanked. Now seriously, if this game was fixed, would the refs make that call (which was clearly not obvious at first glance and nobody would have batted an eye if it was not made) to dig the Colts a bigger hole. You think they were plotting for a 21 pt comeback in the last 4 minutes. Even with all the help in the world from the officials, you need the Bucs defense to lay down for that to happen. It did, because they were totally gassed.

I am done for now.

Totally agree with the "Nicks" here (Nickleback and Douglas)......

Years of winnings and good cash management doesn't make your opinion of the game anymore valid than anyone elses. Fact is, if you truly believe your comments then you should do what you implied and give up betting on the NFL. Is that so hard? I mean if they have done it before and "they will do it again" then why bet the Pros? How utterly stupid would that be?

Some poster mentioned that you played the ponies. Well I did for years and I wish I had a dollar for every time some loser cried that a race was fixed because he lost the bet and couldn't comprehend that he would for any other reason. Of course, I in many instances was on the winning horse and had bet it for many logical and sensible reasons yet to someome else the horse only won because the race was fixed. That kind of thinking is the most narrow of sorts and one with that penchant needs to find another pastime.

Simple fact is that you have to believe that what you are doing when it comes to making wagers makes sense. That there is a legitimate and logical reason why you bet one horse over another or one team over another. Otherwise the whole exercise becomes a wasted effort. If you believe that any sports result is in the "hands" of some all-powerful being that has the ability to control the outcome of an event like some mad puppeteer then either figure out what side they're on or stay the hell away.

By the way, I had Tampa Bay last night. Both in the first half and the third quarter. So despite the "fix" money was made on the Tampa Bay side. The only losing Tampa Bay bet was essentially for the game. Think about that.

Look Nickelback, I' m not sure what your motive is here. I'm proud you have a Master's Degree. What's that got to do with all the tea in China? It's nice of you to point it out for us all. So you win the paper war. I'm making a point that if you win a game like that you see it differently than if you lose one. Now Mr Einstein, For you info. there have been numerous proven case's of pointshaving, from college's who lost there program's to some of the most succesful, wealthy athlete's of all time. Ever heard of Pete Rose? How bout Michael Jordan? How about Universities like Boston College, Northwestern, Notre Dame. Look dude take your degree's and do a little research. You seem to want to make this persoinal. Well you can get it right here. Now, I started this thread to vent and tell my perspective. Sorry that offended your IQ. I've got people coming in here talikng about money management and how they would fix a game and yes friend, it is a little insulting. I'm not about to jump off a bridge over losing a ball game, I think my record here speak's for itself. My money management here speak's for itself. I post here to try and help people. Do you see me going pay? Do you see a hidden agenda? Am I not just as entitled to start a thread with my opionion as you are? Now it's really professional of you Dr. to try and shovel crap in someone's face when they just lost one of the most unbelievable game's in NFL history. Your a great guy. Sir

In the post that I quoted of yours in the last post that I made, you made it sound like we were all stupid and ignorant if we thought the game WAS NOT fixed. So the reason I brought up my degree is to show that some of us around here do have a brain just like yours  even if we do not think exactly like you.

No reason to continue this as I was about to get into fixed games once again, but its pointless. I brought up the degree to counter what you originally posted about the rest of us basically being stupid and ignorant (even though you never directly state it, that's what you were getting at as you were "entertained"). . . no other reason. I'm off to cap games and get to work. . . can't make money posting in this thread.

Much better ways to 'fix' a game than to let the other team go up 21 points with 4 minutes left.

Ridiculous, stupid, moronic, paranoid, amateur are words that come to mind. I think we saw this from you last year whenever there was a bad beat.....game had to be fixed.

Question. How many people have to be involved for the integrity ofthe game to be in question. 1 official? 1 Quarterback? A head coach? I put my opinion out there, and you guy's are certainly entitled to your's. I would appreciate it if you would quit putting word's in my mouth that I didn't say. As alway's ,it has to get personal doesn't it? You know, thing's like, "MJB you eluded to"or "you mispelled this", ect. Let's talk about another game, I'm convinced last night's game was not on the square, and some of you are. How about the Washington game vs. New England last week? Inside of 2 minute's Cole'd pick's up a first down on a 3rd down play inside 2 min. that would seal the game for the Skin's. The official say's he lost control of ball "out of bound's" , they replay the play and Cole's took 4 step's before going out of bound's. The upstair's official, does not overturn the ruling on the field when it was obvious an error was made. Why? I mean it's there for all the world to see,and they do what they want to do. I don't even want to go into this week's Washington game. The point I'm trying to make is it's getting worse and worse. More and more obvious each week. FYI, Monday night football handle dwarf's every other game played throughout the week, so to imply they would not fix that one to me seem's weird. I feel if your going to fix one, fix the big one. I used a few player's and team's that have been caught pointshaving, I certainly didn't mention them all. It does make me wonder how many we never find out about. I would like to make a couple of other point's.
1- There are brotherhood's of people who are secret in their action's and take a blood oath to do what they do,and never reveal their business, ie Mason's. If you know one you know what I'm talking about. Why would NFL official's be any different? I'm simply posing a question.
2-I am amazed that some of you here fail to see just how greedy the world is. You seem to be insulted by the fact I would imply these multi-millionaire's would be involved in illegal activity for profit. I would like to point out one example. Do you gentlemen know that right now Dallas Cowboy owner Jerry Jones is a part of a huge investigation being done by the FBI and the IRS over a bogus pyramid scheme that is now somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 million dollar's? Yeah that's right 70 million. Why would Jerry Jones, with all his money, and all he has to lose be involved in something like that? I'm just posing a question.
3-Some of you have said why don't I quitif I feel it's fixed? If you notice, I have reduced my play's considerably as of late. I am not going to apologise for being successful here at Madjack's,and I am sorry that some of you want to make it personal because you can't argue with the record. If I had lost my butt here, that would be your arguement. There are some fantastic capper's at this site. Some of the best I've ever seen. If you look at their post and read their commentaries you notice they are brilliant in their knowledge of the game and sport's wagering. Does that make them profitable? No. Some here are full-time at what the do and still have brutal season's. Take note gentlemen, I am sorry if I offend, I apologize to anyone here if I have. I truly have posted here with the motivation to help people win. That's the honest truth. I would make the same arguement had I won last night's game. I didn't therfore my post is being viewed as sour grape's or ludicrus. I'm sorry, and I hope you all have continued success. Michaeljbird

Get over it already.
All you people bitching about this game being fixed is because you probably had a little more on the game than usual. I know these type of games hurt when you are counting your money won before the game is over and they take it it right out of your pocket but let that be a lesson to you about the sacred word "MONEY MANAGEMENT". I lost the game also but I also lost a couple of other games this weekend and as long as I don't bet over my limit I'm always ok with a lost. It's just another lost in my book and saying it was fixed is laughable.

EricG, yours is the best post in this abortion of a thread. Just skimmed it, but Nick Douglas, GM, MCity and hoops at least have some sense. Sounds like *somebody* got a little overextended on this game. It wasn't fixed. Stop whining and stop gambling Michaeljbird. That way you won't have to worry about blaming your losses on some grand conspiracy. Pathetic.

agreed. These people should quit whining and realize that there is too much money at stake for football to fix games and ruin its integrity. And the refs were making bad calls on both sides.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned the fact that the betting action was VERY one sided for two VERY high profile games last night.

You'd be hard pressed to convince me that the books had even action on both sides of MNF as well s the Sox/A's game last night.

I thought to myself all afternoon, "wow...everyone is on the Red Sox and the Bucs." If there ever was a setup for a contrarian play, both of these games would have applied.

On a MNF which is traditionally 'chase night' for the public, I told myself that there's no way in hell that the books lose both these games. In fact, if it weren't for the drama/possibility of a Red Sox vs Cubs world series, last night's baseball game would've have been fixed in most circumstances. So the books go 1-1 when they would probably have been 2-0 on any other day where the consensus was so overwhelming.

Yes the argument of "why wasn't it fixed from the start instead of waiting for closing minutes" does have some merit. But could it be because they didn't put the 'fix' on until the baseball game was decided?

I only had small 2nd half action last night so my opinion doesn't reflect any bias towards this outcome. All I know is, I watched in disgust and sympathized with the Buc bettors as the script unfolded.

Yada yada...on any given sunday...blah blah blah. Ok Indy scores a late TD, recover's an onside kick to score another. I can live with that. But 3 td's with no turnovers involved is about as likely as Jennifer Aniston dumping Brad Pitt for me, or Gary Coleman dunking on Jordan. :D
