Mully,

Wasn't it you who put up a sweet vid of your kid crushing a baseball? The best motivation in the world..your kids.

The beginning sucks but once you get through the worst part (first 3-4 weeks), you will feel so good emotionally and physically it will make you wonder why you didn't start sooner.

The beta-blocker is good to reduce your hypertension but if you get healthier and lose some weight/get fit you can naturally drop your BP and then lose the meds.

Best of luck-

Sigh... I agree with The Sponge here. to hell with pills. If anything, he should have put you on a little diuretic like HCTZ for that bp.

Mully, u have to make a choice. Part of that choice is getting a physical which most men our age including me are too stubborn to do. Exercise, cut your portions when you eat, lay off the sauce, lose weight, and your numbers will all improve.

I see the results of poor choices every time I work. I saw a 68 year old lady die this week because she smoked 2 packs a day for 50 years. It wasn't pretty. I hate it. Another man has a body that is so swollen, you can put a handprint in his skin just like a memory foam mattress. He's in that shape because he made poor choices.

You can do it! We're the same age, so I'm sure I can relate to a lot of ur circumstances.

A great way to burn calories... Buy a stationary bike, put it in front of the tv, and ride it while you watch a tv or a movie. You can burn a ton of calories. I also play Xbox with my son while riding mine. People quit going to the gym because it is time consuming and a pita. Riding a bike just requires u to take a different seat; sit ur ass on that bike instead of the couch. GL man!

Seriously though, I'll be 41 in a month and a half. Are these number that bad?? He put me on propranolol . :scared

Prostrate check at 40? :scared
You ain't gonna live very long continuing doing whatever it is you did to get to where you are today. At the very least you will be gobbling hand fulls of pills just to stay alive and your quality of life will only continue to go downhill from here.
I'm 47. 5 feet 9 inches tall, weigh 185 lbs and I'm built like a shit brickhouse. Resting pulse rate is 68, BP is 121/66. "bad" cholesterol is under 60, can't remember what the "good" level is.
Gut check time, neighbor. You want to see your kids get married and be a grandfather some day? This should be your wake up call. Good luck to you.

i would invest in a treadmill,mully.....walk for a half hour everyday while tou watch t.v......you can set the speed at whatever`s comfy in the beginning and increase the speed and matbe the incline as you progress.....don`t start anything that you hate doing....anything that`s a chore....cause you won`t stick with it.....

exercise becomes addictive....aftrer awhile you`ll feel like shit if you don`t exercise....it releases endorphins that give you a feeling of well being....

you`re definitely too heavy...but don`t buy into the b.m.i bullshit........it`s a load of crap...i`m around your height and 210 and nobody would ever call me heavy....i`ve done resistance training since i can remember(except now i have to drink a metrx rtd 51 after a workout because it`s
harder to hold muscle mass as you get older)...
.
i gave up red meat and take 5 mg`s of crestor for cholesterol (couldn`t tolerate any of the others)and mine is at 144...sometimes it s hereditary and theres nothing you can do...i don`t take b.p. medicine but i couldn`t get my cholesterol under control without meds...

try walking on a treadmill...it`s relaxing....it`s good for your overall health without your having to do anything drastic...you`re still young enough to get it together...

g.l.,bud...

Mully,

Fuck that bro, you have a sweet jumper and you like to eat. Sure your cholesterol sucks and someone might try to hang a tag in your ear before the dart wears off if you ever lie down in a public place but all that shit can be fixed. I am only 5'10" and I weigh like 220 but I am certainly not built like a poop adobe. Change from Crown to Vodka and cranberry. Pick up a couple whores two to three times a week and maybe start a new habit. Before you know it, your blood pressure will be the last thing on your mind.

The important thing is not how you look or feel, or even what the doctor says, hell no. How much can you afford to start spending on crack?

Okay, I had my fun. The best advice (not advise) I can give you is to join Weight Watchers. While it isn't cheap it is extremely successful and doesn't leave you too incredibly hungry.

hOpe that helps, (I capitalized the O on purpose, get it?)

I hate to tell you this, but these numbers are way off. The ideal weight for someone 5'11" is around 160 pounds. If you are well-muscled at that height you should be around 180. Even if you have a huge frame you should be under 200 pounds to be healthy.

I have not been 160 pounds since junior high school. I was 185 the day I graduated High School and still hold the mile realy record running at that weight at age 17. I suppose I could maybe get back down to 200 but 220 would feel amazing.

HELL
5'11" and 160 would be borderline anorexic, those BMI charts are like from 1960, ie normal height and weight LOL.

Anywhere around 200 would be good IMO. Dont know how much water you are drinking but try to get a little more in throughout the day, especially during meals.

Lastly, break your meals up to 5 or 6 per day smaller portions, and limit anything heavy or carb related from afternoon on or so.

Exercise will burn calories, couple with a sensible diet will get you to the number you seek. Cutting soda or alcohol will help too.

5'11" and 200 is not good. Sorry. Just because everyone has gotten fat in this country doesn't mean it's healthy. I would say around 170-175 but 200 is not healthy and should not be a long term goal.

It's this kind of rationalization that has America headed for Wall-E land. Yeah, the charts are outdated, it's not that Americans are getting fatter.

At one point I weighed 162 pounds and I am a shade under 6'3". At that point I was swimming a few miles a day so I had almost no body fat, but I wasn't anorexic by any stretch.

5'11 and 160 is nowhere near looking like a skeleton. It is a healthy weight for that height for someone that is not well-muscled.

Well, it sound like you have a large frame, Mully, so I would aim to get down back under 200. But it's all about setting reasonable goals. I would recommend trying to lose 5 pounds a month, which should be a breeze. Set that easily attainable goal and you can be down to 200 this time next year.

The most important thing is just to start exercising and cutting down on the sauce and portion sizes. You will be amazed at how fast the pounds fly off when you combine exercise and simple diet changes.

Like others have said getting a treadmill or stationary bike and using it while watching TV makes getting some daily activity in a piece of cake.
