I would agree Chad if all the above were intent to pad handicap of player when handicap is pertinent--however most pad handicap the opposite way (higher than reality).

I would not consider most of above cheating --where you have all players agree on alterations.

Cheating is defined as -deception for profit to yourself .

There is no deception if all agee.

IMO Cheating would knowingly giving wrong score--claiming one found their ball when they know it isn't theirs-dropping one-and such things.

I play game however those I am playing with want to play--some mulligan off 1st tee--some play it up--some give in the leather--and some play strictly by the rulles. I certainly don't consider myself a cheater because I try to be cordial with fellow players. Granted I could play by rules even though they don't but would not be worth risk of maybe giving them impression I thought lesser of them because they didn't.

100% agree. If the said group has agreed upon rules (I don't give a damn if it's that they can tee off from the ladies' tees), then where is the cheating. Are you cheating the beloved game? **** that.

I love golf. What I don't love are the blow-hard know-it-all wanna-bes or has beens. If you're a prick about it, just remember being a 3-5 handicap is equivilent to being the guy at the local gym that dominates pick up basketball but couldn't quite make the cut when trying to play college ball.

So if "in the leather" is an agreement for your game, it is simply NOT cheating.

If you break the rules that are agreed upon or make up any mid-round when nobody's looking for your convenience, you will probably not be welcome to play in the group again anytime soon.

But what do I know? I'm a 5 round per year, gimmie taken if given, play two of the first tee if somebody says it, beer on the course HACK!

Can't wait to cheat you worthless wrecks on August 2nd!

Can I be on Agent's team? :) I think he has a crush on me.

On the course!
I hate some other things, too. When in league, I give a guy his two footer, and lines up anyway. I'll say again, "That one's good". He says something like, "I want to practice", or "I like to make those, thanks".......That's just bad form.

I had a guy miss his putt one night after I told him to pick it up, and he lined it up anyway. I put his score on the card, and he argued! I said, "sorry....I gave you the option, and you passed." :0corn

Also, if I give you a putt, and you putt anyway.......I'm silent the rest of the round on "putts". Now, you can sink 'em all, Mr PGA!

"the bunker"
Jack, Agent pretty much has this covered.

I don't "cheat" like in, "I got a 7 this hole......"

and the other guys say:

"Hey......who's that fat bastard foolin? I got him for a 10!"

But, almost 100% of recreational golfers play the so called, "winter rules". My buddies like to say, "fluff it up a little". (Watch it, wise asses! :SIB ) In the annual tournament up here each year, without fail, guys will shoot 7-12 strokes over their "handicap" over the 36 hole event! Why? Because they can't move the ball, and they must sink their putts!

It makes a HUGE difference!

Also, as Chad said. I could retire if I could bet guys they couldn't golf within 10 stroke of their handicap. Not the best golfers, but your run-of-the-mill guy, who hits a ball in the woods, and can't find it, so he "just drops one", and takes a stroke.

Oh, really? I don't think so, stud.

Ball almost cleared the lake, so I'll drop on the edge at the other end.

You will? Not today, sir.

It goes on, and on.......and I'm not even CLOSE to knowing all the rules!

Still, in league, when I still played, guys cheated all of the time! Do they really think guys playing with them can't count THEIR strokes, as well? :mj07:

I've seen balls "splash", and the guy finds it right on the edge of the pond.

I've seen guys, most guys, give THEMSELVES putts!

I had one guy, in a close match, and his ball was on the green in my line. He was about 6 feet from the hole, I was about 9. When he went to mark his ball, he was really fumbling around with the marker and ball.....offsetting it a bit, to make sure it was not right on my line, I presumed. He finally got the mark set right, and I said, "That's good", and the fuker picked up his marker, and started walking off!

I said, "Whoa!" he says, "You said 'good'!"

Golfers.......great guys. It's suck a joke when people talk about what sportsman golfers are because "they keep their own score"!

How many guys miss a "gimmie" putt, and then pull it back quick before it stops rolling, and putt it again? DON'T LIE, YOU FUGGERS!!!!!!

Then, the "made putt" goes on the card.

"Ahhh, that was a gimmie. I wasn't really trying!"

You ever do that...........Bowling? Toss a gutter trying for a ten pin, and say, "I never miss that!" And you put down a spare???? NO ONE does that! Do you burry one in the pocket, and leave a solid 9 pin, and hit the re-set? "Gimmie a strike on that.....I was robbed!" No....You don't.

Holy Christ, we should all be shot!

:142smilie ....that must`ve been cathartic... i feel like a fly on the wall at one of yyz`s therapy sessions....

classic post..:grins:

One Courses fairway is anothers Ground Under Repair. I dont see rolling it on awful fairways as cheating at all if all agree. As far as turning a score in I agree play as it lies, but is it right for a course with a slope of 100 to actually play more like a 125 because of burned fairways, and such. Over time that would kill your handicap. It works both ways when it come to your handicap.

here here. You can play on my team anytime big boy.. I know that there are some that take this thing very seriously but for me and my tastes...............its just a friggin game. If I see a guy lining up a two foot putt and checking every angle, picking up his ball and lining it up, cleaning it off or changing to a "putting" ball or generally doing the things that would make one think that he has been watching wwwaaaaaaaaayyyyyy too much tv, I get too antsy and end up way too drunk and therefore don't really remember their score anyway so whats the damn point. I don't count others strokes, I do however count all of mine and do move the ball if it is lying in some dirt patch that are going to do nothing but bend my clubs. Hell I paid twenty bucks for thse puppies at a yard sale just last year so they're like new!!! Why ruin them?

Yea, you and I are going to get along just fine DB:toast:

golf would be too frustrating if you did not cheat. I always have 1 mulligan a round, move my ball to get a better lie ie play it up, and I always have gimme putts. I do not play for money, just for fun, so if I go play with someone who is very serious I am miserable the whole round. Golf is about getting out and having fun with friends and not worrying about rules.

I've decide there is NO WAY you are a real person. You're Kosar, or FDC, or SOMEBODY posting as a ghost with the sole purpose of being polar opposite of me on all subjects.

You are bizarro Agent.

I demand an IP check, NOW.

I agree that he is a troll, but it's not just YOU that he trolls for comments from. (and you just gave him a hard-on, so you know)

I doubt he is a ghost, per se', but he is an idiot that gets off on getting reactions from his ridiculous comments about anything and everything.

Don't be paranoid, shooter.

somebody mentioned cheating in scrambles?? I know I've been in more than 1 scramble where you can see a team consistently not on the green in regulation, and when they come in, they post something like a -17 :mj07: To me, that's the worst kind of cheating, and I'm not talking about big events; these are for the most part, charity events where you bring your own team, and the top prize might be a few rounds of golf or 100 bucks.

I play however the guys I am with want to play; if it's by the book completely, fine. If it's winter rules, fine too. My experience usually is that the guys that want to play the tips and the ball down are usually wannabes and suck in a bad way. Then, you have a backlog behind you, your shots are rushed, and u have to spend every hole looking for said wannabe's ball for 10 minutes before he goes back to the tee to hit another. Pure misery to me.

Don't even get me started on guys that want to play for money that hit into the woods then want to drop in the fairway and say something like, "I'll hit from here and take a stroke" :mj07: Then, they want to 'press' that quarter every hole until you're playing for 20 or 30 a hole. fun stuff!
