How much longer until cable companies and Directv are obsolete?

Anyone get an email to update your Gears tv and if so, can you dumb it down for me? I have no idea what to do,
I didn't get an email and everything is working fine. I have no idea what you have going on.
That's if you get it through a firestick. If you went through kodi, you don't have to do anything.

Ok. Plus you may want to sign up before nov 1, to be grandfathered in. Something good is changing. Always for the better.
Seems to have stopped working for me, at least partially. I can still watch through the Mayfair guide, but if I go directly to the GearsTV app it says it's checking for an update then immediately says "gears has stopped working" and shuts down the app.

Go through kodi, and do the gears of war build. There's a 6 minute video on you tube that explains it.
Are any of you guys using a VPN for the fire stick type stuff?
I'm planning on dumping cable now that I found a way for my wife to watch her channels, with a DVR, but without the high cable bill. YouTube TV and Philo cover all the channels and both have a DVR option. I'm going to do a test run before officially making the switch, but I think I got it covered. Bought an antenna in case the network channels on YouTube TV aren't good enough.
