does anyone know if you can go to canada and open up a bank account, and then play from your home in the us? Would you still be breaking the law?

thats what i was thinking. Wondering if you can open a bank account in Canada or Mexico. Fund it with US funds, then set it up to fund your offshore that way.

again, there is still 270 days before enactment and hopefully something can be worked out in that time.

270? Damn that probably won't take us through the All Star Break in 2007. I had a STRONG lean on the NL.

They were gonna break outta there slump.

Get money into your accounts within the next 9 months, and then just don't lose it all before the books figure out a clever way for Americans to fund their accounts without using US banks or credit cards.

The worst thing we could do is pull all our money out of the off shores.

I am keeping mine there.

Its so early to have to think of funding methods.

It will be something we can't even think of right now.

Done by alot of ppl smarter than maybe even the goverment.

How can you attach a bill to a war bill that is going through and you know will pass.

This is not right.

We need to vote them all out of office. Every last one of the rat bastids.

Dell - maybe you should just keep your piehole shut.
........................................................

Meanwhile, negotiators finalized a port security bill outlining steps to protect the nation's 361 ports from what could be catastrophic attacks from chemical, biological or nuclear devices.

The bill served as a vehicle to carry legislation to limit Internet gambling. It passed the House 409-2 and a nearly deserted Senate cleared the bill by voice vote as one of the last items of business.

wtf does this mean ?

this is just a guess, but i think it has merit. Neteller isn't going anywhere. aside from what most of us think, there is life outside the US, and neteller services the world for the most part. sure they are going to lose what i imagine is their largest client base, but they will still operate.

my guess is that if you open an offshore bank that you can link neteller to that and go about your business.

i don't think its the end of the world, although its going to be much more difficult.

all i know is that if i go to jail, agent and kneifel better not be in my cell.

You already have one if you have Neteller. And that is the truth. It is concerned a foreign bank and if you have money there now you are supposed to report on your taxes as a foreign bank account. My suggestion to those that want to keep playing is leave the money in Neteller. Your problem with this bill is not withdrawing the money via a Check but getting it to Neteller. Since you already have money in there Neteller will still work fine for you. You are free and clear if that money stays pat because you will never have to deposit.

This act is going after the big companies, financial institutions and credit card companies to make it very difficult to deposit. Essentially if this bill went into effect today and all you did was make withdrawals and no deposits you will be fine. Granted withdrawing methods will change since EFT will be covered under this.

The players lose out on funding methods but there has always been an alternative to this and there always will be.

Do you honestly think that they are going after the little guy in all this by prosecution? No, because if they did the first thing they would do is go to the internet service providers and shut off access to these sites nation wide ala China.

I'm worried on the poker front because it is going to make the fish a lot harder to deposit, there won't be as many poker commercials, player #'s will go down, and I hate to say it but I wouldn't be suprised if the WSOP numbers drop significantly because like 80% of the Main Event this year were online qualifiers.

I agree with Jack. Let's just stay cool and let it play its course.

BTW, Frist pushed this but the democrats allowed the add-on to the Port Bill because they wanted it the bill to pass before the recess. Besides a few neither side truly care about us.

Congress approves Internet gambling ban bill

Congress approves Internet gambling ban bill

Congress approves Internet gambling ban bill
Sat Sep 30, 2006 12:54 AM ET

By Peter Kaplan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Most forms of Internet gambling would be banned under a bill that received final U.S. congressional approval early Saturday.

The House of Representatives and Senate approved the measure and sent it to President George W. Bush to sign into law.

The bill, a compromise between earlier versions passed by the two chambers, would make it illegal for banks and credit card companies to make payments to online gambling sites.

Democrats had accused Republicans of pushing the bill to placate its conservative base, particularly the religious right, before the November 7 congressional elections.

"It's been over 10 years in the making. The enforcement provisions provided by this bill will go a long way to stop these illegal online operations," said Sen. Jon Kyl, an Arizona Republican and a chief sponsor of the measure.

Negotiators from the Republican-led House and Senate reached a deal on the legislation Friday and attached it to unrelated legislation to bolster port security, which the Congress approved.

The final bill dropped earlier provisions opposed by some gaming interests that would have clarified that a 1961 federal law banning interstate telephone betting also covers an array of online gambling.

Investors in British-based gaming companies such as BETonSPORTS Plc, Partygaming Plc and 888 Holdings Plc have tracked the legislation.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, a Tennessee Republican and potential 2008 presidential candidate, recently appeared at a hearing in Iowa -- the state that holds the first presidential nominating contest for the 2008 election -- to listen to concerns about Internet gambling.

Under the new terrorism detention act, a person wiring or corresponding with another country could be deemed complicit with terrorism, jailed never to see the light of day. Literally picked off the street. Scary
