If Whittington dies, should Cheney be charged and prosecuted?

Anyone who goes hunting with a guy with as bad of judgement, quick trigger finger, and bum ticker like Cheney is really rolling the dice. Someone was bound to come up craps eventually.

not a mistake I have ever made or come close to making, but he shouldn't be prosecuted for it. I've passed up MANY, MANY shots when I didn't know exactly where another hunter was located or if it was even remotely in the direction of another hunter.

Alcohol entering the picture, which could change things quite a bit about why there could have been a big delay in anything being reported. Not saying it has anything to do with it, but Cheney admitted having a beer hours before. If that is anything like the drunk driver admitting to two beers during the evening (when having had a 12-pack) after being pulled over, then we may have an issue of substance.

Irregardless of what you feel about the press, you guys who say it was excusable the way that Cheney and the White House handled this situation have to open your eyes!

Geez, it's as simple as this:

1. Cheney accidentally shoots his friend.
2. Proper authorities are notified and appropriate medical care is given, including transportation to a medical facility.
3. An investigation of some kind into this incident is to be conducted.
4. Cheney's office issues a statement to the public, with further details to come--at least by Sunday morning.
5. The White House makes it clear that Cheney will be available to issue a statement in person, maybe even answer some questions, some time after he arrives back in Washington.

The WH is supposed to be a well-oiled machine. Dick Cheney may just the #2 man on paper, but he is the single biggest influential figure in the Bush administration. Hate to say it, but this just shows how manipulative this administration has become. It refuses to answer to anyone and defies conventional logic. Unfortunately, Cheney--the most important VP ever--seems to have a closed-door, closed-minded policy.

Accidental shootings have breath test? Maybe they should. Maybe someone would like to delay that from happening to soon. Forget just this case.

War Eagle RE: bumper Sticker

Been watching senate floor with Rice and everyone climbing on--been watching the dems climb on Cheney incident--but quess who we have not seen a peep out of since accident--Our Buddy Ted.

Thought for sure we'd see him front and center saying it should have been reported in more timely manner--calling for Cheney resignation--cheney-prosecution--achohol involvement--manslaughter charges ect ;)
Would give $100 if reporter ask him his thoughts on Cheney matter when ever he resurfaces:)

yeah...i noticed that...no teddy sightings....i`m sort of surprised....

i was shocked that he weighed in on the abu gharaib water torture thingee awhile back....you`d think the guy`d be reticent to be photographed even holding a glass of water...

it is interesting to note that for the first time in their long history, that liberals aren`t blaming the gun.....

I am sure glad it wasn't a liberal who shot his friend in the face on a game farm where they do everything except hold the bird in front of your gun and you kill it. You Righties would have a field day with that. Now, that Cheney has taken responsibility for his actions what are the consequences? It's pretty easy to take responsibility without consequences, a lot like being a Rightie!

What consequences should he have, stevied? Just curious as to what punishment you think he should undergo.

One of the things that Clinton did do was occasionally hunt and then pose for pictures. Those were always my favorite pictures/stories about him when he was in office.

Ctown how many references to Teddy Kennedy in this thread alone. Was he "hunting" with Cheney this weekend? Talk about hate,, you Righties are full of it!
Sixfive, I dunno what sanctions should be placed on Cheney. I would guess the same as on anybody who shoots a hunting partner.

For the record, I'm a "Bush Hater" and I don't care about this at all, and I think a lot of liberals feel the same way. Should they have been more careful? Sure. But accidents happen, and it looks like this was an accident, and I think Cheney probably feels bad (if he has feelings :) ) that he shot his friend. In that same situation, I think I would have been more worried about making sure my friend that I just shot was going to be OK, than about whether I had announced the details to the media quickly enough.

I'm glad to hear you feel that Cheney is human. And Cheney did exactly that, he was worried about his friend first and foremost and not the press or any releases. He handled it just the way you said he should. So what's the problem, the problem is the mainstream press, their pissed off because they weren't able to control the incident the way they wanted.

That's the problem and nothing else.

For the record, I wish Cheney shot Ted Kennedy and they both went off a bridge. Not good karma to wish bad things on others, but those 2 gone would be a good thing for the country.

Whether you agree with them or not, I think the press believes that this administration has been very deceptive, so I think part of the problem is that reporters are extra sensitive to any situation that looks like the Bushies are hiding something or covering something up, and here it's caused them to over-react. Might have also just been a slow news week. A couple of weeks from now, there'll be some new "scandal" dominating the news (maybe that Cheney/Kennedy bridge thing smurphy's talking about). Trying to create scandals is nothing new, and nothing to do with the Republicans being in office. Same thing happens when a Democrat is in the White House.
