while there may be a very rare instance were being buckled in led to an adverse outcome in an accident, the same person who might save their life in this rare 1 in 1000 (or more) situation would die many times over by flying through their windshield in other accidents.

when rotating through trauma i saw about 200 car accidents roll in, i would say about 90-95% had no belt on. the medics and officers would just roll their eyes.
and for the lady who's doctor suggested she smoke during her pregnancy, seriously, i suggest you get a new one. it is completely preposterous for any md to suggest that and your not smoking in your original preganancy likely had nothing to do with you preecleampsia.
