Sure I can, LSU won the BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.

This, in the opinion of most* would back up the argument that LSU is indeed the 03 champion.

Perhaps you would like to argue that the REAL SuperBowl champions last year were the Indy Colts, I mean they did have the best record and if not for a game saving, shoe string tackle they would have won the whole thing, so why let a little thing like the fact they didn't play in the SuperBowl get in the way?

*everyone but USC fans

I love revisionist history. For anyone to say LSU or USC was the undisputed NC that year is foolish. It was unfortunatley a split. What is funny is that as we get further away from the time, LSU fans and USC haters have tried to back away from the split title that at the time, LSU felt fortunate to get and USC was pissed about having to share. Here's a newpaper article to refresh your memory, (Cincy Enquirer at the time): Note the quotes from the LSU players themselves.

Sharing just fine with Louisiana St.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tigers thrilled with first national title since '58

The Associated Press

NEW ORLEANS - The colorful, rich history of Louisiana State University football now can claim the one thing that had been missing for almost a half-century: a national championship.

Backed by frenzied fans wearing purple feather boas, gold beads and faces painted with tiger stripes, LSU earned its share of the title Sunday night, holding off Heisman Trophy winner Jason White and Oklahoma 21-14 in the Sugar Bowl.

Jessie Daniels tipped away a fourth-down pass into the end zone with three minutes left, sealing a victory that made the Tigers the best team in the bayou, on Bourbon Street and in the Bowl Championship Series.

So what if it was Splitsville everywhere else in college football, with USC also earning a crown? The Tigers hardly cared.
"Do they deserve to share the title?" LSU All-America defensive tackle Chad Lavalais said. "Yeah. But when I tell my friends, I'm going to say we're national champions. In this part of the country, we are national champions.

"It doesn't bother me," he said of the split. "It's like winning the lottery, but you have to share the Powerball with another person. It's still a good deal."
The No. 2 Tigers received the USA Today/ESPN coaches' crown for beating the third-ranked Sooners.

Southern California won the Associated Press title with a 28-14 victory over Michigan in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day.

"There was always a chance it could be out of whack, and it happened this year. It doesn't take anything away from what LSU accomplished," USC coach Pete Carroll said.

Too bad there's not one game left for winner-take-all.

"I think there'd be an awful lot of people who would love the matchup," Carroll said. "It would be exciting for the country. It's too bad it can't happen."

USC received 48 of the 65 first-place votes cast in the AP poll, and LSU got the other 17. Three coaches broke the USA Today/ESPN agreement and voted for USC.
Freshman Justin Vincent ran loose for 117 yards and was selected the Sugar Bowl's most outstanding player, defensive end Marcus Spears scored on an interception return, and coach Nick Saban's team never trailed in bringing LSU its first crown since 1958.

It was a rewarding win for Saban. He makes $1.5 million, but a clause in his contract said that if he won this game, he was guaranteed $1 more than the highest-paid college coach - Oklahoma's Bob Stoops, at $2.3 million.

"I'm just happy that we could make this state proud," Saban said. "We got tired at the end of the game, but we played from the heart."

Lavalais and his LSU teammates shut down the nation's top-scoring team for most of the game, extending the jinx that haunted previous Heisman winners such as Chris Weinke, Eric Crouch and Gino Torretta.

"It dampers it quite a bit," White said. "You win 12 games, and that's extremely hard to do in college football and you end up with nothing to show for it."

Defensive end Marquise Hill and his LSU teammates blitzed White a lot, often putting him on his back.

"He's Mr. Heisman and we wanted to go at him all night. That's a big award, and if you win it, you're going to pay for it," Hill said. "I said to him, 'Excuse me, Mr. Heisman. I'm going to be coming at you all night.' He just nodded his head at me."

White finished 13-for-37 for 102 yards with two interceptions. LSU quarterback Matt Mauck was efficient enough, overcoming two interceptions.

A record crowd of 79,342 that slowly made its way through heavy security before the game went crazy cheering for the Tigers (13-1), who finished last season out of the AP Top 25.

The Sooners (12-2) had seethed for nearly a month after their perfect season was wrecked in a humbling 35-7 loss to Kansas State in the Big 12 championship game.

"I wouldn't say we lost our swagger, guys just weren't making the plays they usually do," All-America defensive back Derrick Strait said.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Or, Sports Illustrated's article 1/12/2007 on the games:

"Splitsville - A winner-takes-half formula leaves both USC and LSU with a share of the national crown."

Or, here's another random article talking about the LACK of controversy over the split:

LSU, USC both celebrate their crowning moments (January 6, 2004)
Tim Griffin EXPRESS-NEWS STAFF WRITER San Antonio Express-News
Sports Page 1D (1050 Words)

For all of the complaints about the Bowl Championship Series, the final results sparked little public outrage once the two championship teams were determined.

The day after the dust settled from LSU's 21-14 Sugar Bowl victory over Oklahoma, there was little outward controversy. Two national championship trophies were presented in two cities to the two championship teams on Monday.

LSU coach Nick Saban received the crystal football emblematic of the BCS title for...

Claiming 2003 is better than some of the other crap they do. Two year ago USC decided they deserved the national championship in 1939 and started claiming. Did that for at least one other year as well and proudly say the investigation is continuing as to whether there are other years to which USC is entitled.

USC FLAT OUT DOMINATES RECRUITING.

:scared :scared :scared

2003-2006, FIVE STAR RECRUITS!

USC recruited 26 FIVE STAR RECRUITS!
Florida came 2nd with 14
Texas came 3rd with 8
Ohio St. also with 8

2003-2006, TOP 100 RECRUITS

USC = 39 :eek:
FL = 24
Ohio St. = 20

Guess what? PC SAYS 2007 WILL BE HIS BEST RECRUITING CLASS YET!

USC WILL FLAT OUT DOMINATE COLLEGE FOOTBALL! LOOK WHAT USC DID
IN A REBUILDING YEAR PLAYING TOP 5 SOS AND ONLY STARTING 1 SENIOR

USC 2nd and 3rd stringers are practically all 4-star and 5-star recruits.

Team----5-star recruits----top 100 recruits

2006
USC 8 and 13
FL 6 and 7
Texas 4 and 6
OSU 3 and 7

2005
USC 6 and 10

THE AP POLL "NEVER" AGREED TO VOTE THE WINNER OF THE BCS NC GAME NATIONAL CHAMPS!

AGAIN, THE AP POLL NEVER AGREED TO VOTE THE WINNER OF THE BCS NC GAME NATIONAL CHAMPS!

AGAIN! THE AP POLL NEVER AGREED TO VOTE THE WINNER OF THE BCS NC GAME NATIONAL CHAMPS!

Only the coaches poll agreed to vote the winner of the BCS NC game NATIONAL CHAMPS!

CASE CLOSED!

YOU ARE AN UNEDUCATED FOOL IF YOU CANNOT UNDERSTAND THIS! :violin:

In 2003, BOTH the Coaches Poll and AP poll felt USC was the best team in the country. Only the AP poll could vote USC #1 at the end of the bowl season because the Coaches poll was FORCED to vote LSU #1. LSU only won a split NC because voters were FORCED to vote them #1. Kinda sad if you think about it.

Sad for you, maybe. The BCS was, and remains, the agreed upon method for selection of the National Champion. Why is that so hard to understand for USC fans?

:nono: :nono: :nono:

The BCS was designed to match up the 2 best teams in the country. In 2003, the AP poll felt USC was the #1 team in the country and the BCS system did not invite USC to play in the BCS NC GAME. Also funny how the COACHES POLL felt USC was the best team in the country too. (NOBODY FELT LSU WAS #1)

Only difference is the coaches poll was FORCED to vote LSU #1 while the AP could vote USC #1 because they NEVER agreed to vote the winner of the BCS NC game NATIONAL CHAMPS!

WHERE IS IT WRITTEN THAT THE AP POLL IS OBLIGATED TO VOTE THE WINNER OF THE BCS NC GAME NATIONAL CHAMPS? THE COACHES POLL IS OBLIGATED TO VOTE THE WINNER OF THE BCS NC GAME NATIONAL CHAMPS, IT IS A WRITTEN CONTRACT! NEVER DID THE AP POLL AGREE TO IT! :nono: SORRY IF YOU ARE NOT EDUCATED ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THIS!

The AP Poll NEVER agreed to vote the winner of the BCS NC game National Champs. They only allowed the BCS SYSTEM to use their poll.

After 2003 the AP poll took itself out of the BCS FORMULA.

So Scott with these amazing recruiting classes how can you explain losing to a UCLA team who is YOUNGER than USC with quite a few less 4* and 5* recruits?

It comes down to COACHING. Frat Boy Petey got outcoached by Dorrell and Walker. He took this game lightly and his team followed suit. There weren't any "unforced turnovers" that decided this one. Simply a better gameplan that was executed to perfection by UCLA.

Nebraska was dethroned by Miami.
Miami by Oklahoma
Oklahoma by USC
USC by Oregon State? UCLA? Wow at least the other dynasties were ended by future dynasties, not middle of the road Pac-10 teams.

I don't care how good the frat boy recruits he will not see another offense like Leinart, White, Bush, Smith, and Jarrett. USC had their fun, now they will just be another perennial top 5-15 college football program.

Oh damn what am I doing talking about dynasties, it was only a 1-Peat anyway. LSU won the BCS in 2003.

LSU fans, team and coaches were thrilled to share the title with USC at the time. Go back and read their quotes about how excited they were to share the title. And why shouldn't they have been? LSU became the first and only team to get a share of the NC in the BCS era without ever having to play or be the #1 team in the country in the BCS game. At the time, it was SC that was so pissed about having to a split title - or to be exact, getting deprived of the right to play for an undisputed title. It's only after the fact that certain LSU fans have tried to conveniently forget the circumstances and try to claim some type of undisputed NC. Simplistic arguments may be easier to defend: "Lookie here, we got one 'em fancy crystal balls" but ultimately the argument misses the actual hard facts of the situation.

USC D played great. UCLA D played great.

USC offense had the ball in UCLA territory several times but only scored 7pts. Also came up short on 4th and 1, 4th and 2, and then 3rd and 3 (INT). USC O had opportunities and UCLA D played awesome. Also remember USC O had MULTIPLE PENALTIES that killed USC drives. That helped aid UCLA D tremendously. USC shouldn't commit penalties, and if you do, you deserve to lose. USC LOST!

Lastly, UCLA had 2 weeks to prepare for USC. USC had to prepare for Oregon, then CAL, then rival ND, then rival UCLA in 4 consecutive weeks. BRUTAL! BRUTAL! BRUTAL!

Oh yeah, did I mention USC only starts 3 seniors on offense and 1 senior on defense.

PC says this year was his most talented team. Next year will be PC's most experienced team and maybe most talented team.

The question is not whether USC wins another 55 of their next 59 games, the question is whether PC stays at USC to coach another 59 games.

:mj07: :mj07: :mj07:

The way PC recruits and the talent he has now and future, it will be even easier for PC to win at USC. PC always preaches, "WE ARE JUST GETTING STARTED!"

It is ok. After year 1 of PC (where he went 6-6) I came onto MJ's and told everyone PC is building a dynasty. I was laughed at and told I was delusional etc. I obviously got the last laugh. Am I being doubted again?

How will USC do the next 6 years in PC era where he will have all 5-star and 4-star players on the 3-deep. NO NOT STARTERS! NO NOT 2-DEEP! I am talking 3-deep!!!! :scared How about USC having 2x, 3x, or even 4x as many 5-star players on their roster as other top 25 teams? FL is the only team that comes close to 5-star talent as USC, and after this recruiting class, USC will have recruited 2 times as many 5-star players as Florida. :scared

Still think USC "will just be another perennial top 5-15 college football program." :142smilie

This is why I was able to smile after losing to UCLA (in a rebuilding year) knowing USC just lost an opportunity to go to BCS NC game. I KNOW USC WILL NOT JUST BE BACK IN THE BCS NC GAME, BUT OFTEN!

I agree with your post 100% - It IS shameful to lose to UCLA. ;)

One thing's for sure, USC fans are currently the most annoying in the country - by far. I haven't seen such illusions of self-grandeur since Nebraska. All the other champions in the last 20 years have been tolerable. Fans of these 2 teams really stand out as being the most obnoxious, myopic people in the modern era.

\..........................................

its impossible for you to talk about the loss without saying the rebuilding.

There are so many more important things in life than to grasp USC like your newly born child.

Did I mention that USC lost to the Beavers and the Bruins !

Scott and USC folks,

I gotta admit that every time I turn on TV news or Sportscenter they are always talking about who they think is gonna win the AP National Championship, I mean it seems it's all they can talk about and never once mention that BCS thing.

Now, back to reality, has anyone even once heard about the AP poll OUTSIDE of Souther California recently?

NO

Wanna know why? BECAUSE PEOPLE ONLY CARE ABOUT THE BCS CHAMPIONSHIP!!

Again, unless you live in Souther California and it's all you have to hold on to, I mean other than getting a zillion and a half of the top 5-star recruits and still coming up short.

Now that's some award winning coaghing right there! By your own admission PC gets the top players EVERY year, I guess he SHOULD win a National Championsip EVERY year and be run out of town the years he loses to Oregon St.
